With the awning, I have a budget awning and learned my lesson quick. If you open a budget awning in the wind, peg down each pole as you go. Or when on sand, I have sand bags that wrap around the poles that are tied to the top of the awning. Works a treat and no more broken poles. Pack down one pole at a time with a friend holding the tarp tight.
Another great one guys, I think you know which awning I have. If you go that way, just remember that the wind will mess up the good ones too. So just be careful. Cheers Steve
Another great episode you two!!! Best 270 self supporting awning we found (and it took us ages to work through all available here after our darche awning tore open the side of our alucab rtt) was “Howling Moon” it has integrated poles on EVERY arm with peg down points , permanently attached ropes on every side that store in little zippered pouches within the awning, zips all round for walls if required (not silly Velcro.......) , Canvas is attached along the entire arms not just the ends. And reasonably priced imho. The wind along the west coast is crazy though , we ended up rolling the awning away most evenings if we were in an exposed area just so as not to worry about it.
Easiest way to put the 37’s back on, sit down in front of it and use your legs to actually lift the tire and your hands to guide. I had the exact same issue on my last trip in the last video!
We use a Supapeg RapidWing4 on a Suzuki Grand Vitara. The peggable feet are a winner, find it quick and easy to setup and pack-up, and the canvas quality is top notch, highly recommend👌
Another awesome film, how is it possible that the spots keep getting more stunning! ;) Supa-Peg make great awnings, Aussie made and reasonably priced. FWIW, a couple of tips I follow when jacking up the Jeep and removing a wheel; 1. put the removed wheel under the frame to prevent it dropping completely if it did come off the jack - it might damage the wheel (unlikely) but that's better than getting pinned under the vehicle or even just trying to jack it back up off the ground and 2. use your feet to put the wheel back on - just sit on the ground, with your feet on the ground put one foot either side of the tyre, line up the wheel adjusting with your feet and hands and then lift with your feet... easy! ;)
Try using a bottle jack when you're bogged in the mud, particularly with lots of articulation in the suspension. I have used highlift jacks a few times to raise the chassis high enough to clear obstacles and then pushed the vehicle off it. Repeat front and rear until clear. I saw a guy use this technique to turn his vehicle completely around in its own length on a very narrow rocky track. They can also be used as a winch. They can be very dangerous - particularly if the handle flies up, but I wouldnt go bush without one.
So whilst its constantly raining here in the the UK, we can just enjoy your videos and live our camping life through these videos 😆 Another amazing episode from you guys 😀 The cinematic shots were so cool and the drone shots are so good, amazing to see such a lovely place from above! Hope you guys get an awning sorted soon, can’t really recommend any seeing as we don’t live in AU. One thing i did notice is you open the awning and then put the legs out where as we usually see people with 270 degree awnings, pull them out and tie it back tight on to the car before putting the legs down, would this maybe help at all in the windy moments?🧐 Keep the awesome content coming, we really enjoy it!😀
I had a "batwing" awning.... you have to double stake each pole as you deploy and make adjustments once all poles are secure. In wind like that one should probably use guide lines as well.... I replaced the "batwing" with a 8.8x8.8 ARB awning... much easier and quick to use.
Shark....glad you made it our of the water safe; maybe the fella was just lost! Beach looks amazing. You guys ever load up GPS info for where you are? AS for awning...get the BUSH COMPANY ONE....best every! no need for poles, even in windy situations. Gotta love all the little jeep attention...GEEZ for the JEEP! BUT thank god you got a bottle jack....I have one and prefer it to my high-lift. The bottle jack is 10x more helpful!
Hi if you are looking for a great awning Supa Peg Queensland. They manufacture every component of the awnings in Australia so if you have a mishap they can send you the replacement parts. They are a little more expensive but you get what you pay for. Cheers and keep up the adventures 👍👍
G'day guys, sorry to hear about your 270, something worse happened to mine but worse gust slammed it hard over the car, lucky on top of the maxtrax, I managed to fix it, Bunnings supplies. Was quiet easy and cheap. Also made some upgrades to make it more wind resistant. Bunnings also pretty cheap. I sourced a couple of free spare elbows for 1 that snapped from 4wdsupacenter. These elbows are.common throughout their other awnings. Getting spares were a bitch due to covid. Hopefully your corner bracket survived. Happy to help you when down here in Perth. Otherwise, I'd seriously consider a quickpitch / alucab one, but $$$ I cannot justify as I don't use everyday...
we have the darche 270 awning which is fantastic because it opens in both directions, for the price this was the best on the market at the time, I have also heard very good things about the bush company, that opens similar style to the kings 270, but obviously a lot better quality and expensive, also don’t eat the octopus :)
Looks so amazing. the drone shot @17:45 gave me goosebumps. Really enjoying your vids! The covid lockdowns in Vic cancelled all my plans for adventures this year!
Nice vid. You should check out quick pitch 20sec awning. You probably don't like crowds but the perth 4wd show is on early November if you had time. Maybe a good opportunity to get some gear at sponsor prices. Keep making dreams come true and peace out.
Hey guys! Awsum video. Incredible shots with the mavic. Love the colors. When you were try'n ta set up your buggered awning up, I cld see that pole had slid down n was against yer window, it had "Oh Shit" written all over it. How many of us watching were say'n, Wait, wait, wait, wait?? Least it was just a scratch, n not a crack. Just a scar, nother story to tell. There must be a bikini shop in Broom. Love you guys, thanks for sharing. Yer videos are the best. Be safe! Cheers!
wrt 270deg awnings..any of the South African brands such as Alu-Cab, Quickpitch, Bush Company, Eezi-Awn are very good and highly recommended. All available in Oz as far as I know! :-)
Can I suggest the drache awning. I have used the one on my mates jeep many time and it is awesome. Has held up to reasonable winds with out moving. The mounts are also not huge like other brands but are still super strong. Also loving the videos. Keep up the good work
I agree, I’ve checked all the above awnings and the better ones are too expensive The 30 second is priced somewhere in the middle but is engineered like the exy ones You can also get quick release brackets that allow a double bolt connection to a rhino rack tray You can easily remove the awning when not using it and padlock it on when attached Check out Cams review on “wild touring”
@@michaelhermans4753 yeah & paying a mansion size deposit for an awening that is suppose to be better, when in actual fact, it has the same rating as a 30 Second Awning is a joke. No actual gains with wind resistance either. You still need to put legs down in high winds regardless. It’s a blatant attempt at stealing your money if you fall for the marketing rubbish claims. You’re not going to use an awning in a cyclone nor are you going to need it to do weight sessions with. It’s unbelievable the claims some of these guys make about their products. Rant over 😬
@@michaelhermans4753 no, just the awning itself. Good idea, in no wind conditions, but in high wind I think it could end up tearing the whole thing of the rack if you’re not careful in high winds. Bear that in mind, they don’t tell you that especially if you go sleep at night & the wind picks up. You don’t want to be getting up in the middle of the night & in the dark trying to save your awning from tearing itself apart.
Great video of the area. I am hoping to be up that way in July 2021. Just a comment about jacking up the Jeep. Given sand is an unstable base why didn't you use a jacking plate of some sort, that towel didn't look too sturdy.
Hey guys awesome ep . If you don't like the kings awning you won't like the drifta or the superpeg ones as they are the same style probably who kings copied. Look in to the bushCompany or the Alu cab one there free standing .
Nah, no comparison at all mate. The peggable feet and quality of materials used in the Supapeg RapidWing4 that we use constantly is not the same as a Kings.
Heh guys another great vid .... In regards to the 270 anwing I'd go either the bush company xt or the ostrich wing both near the 2 grand mark but both self standing and both superior to anything else on the market
Hey love the videos and the jeep. Is it a petrol or diesel? What suspension are you running and have you had any issues with it. Love to have one but so much negative press
great video guys. What a beautiful country we have and its great to experience it through your eyes. Just wondering with all the 4x4 driving if either of you get travel sickness? mostly as a passenger I guess. Keep up the great adventure. Tim
G'day guys loving the vids. Best 270 awning is the bush company 270 XT. Check out fire to fork on TH-cam he has one fitted on his 80 series and loves it. Free-standing no poles and can handle wind. Cheers
Guaranteed that shark is asking his buddies the same exact questions. Kinda like the bears in Yellowstone or the Colorado Rockies are asking why people gotta come to their house?

Like you said, WAY to cool to cook!

Lots of baitfish through James Price, glad to see the mining company didn't screw the area.

Amazing
Another good video. Enjoy always. For your awning I won't go past the supa peg range. Aussie made and owned.
I'm a huge fan of the 30 sec awning. It's my pick. But the darche, rhino rack, and 23zero awnings are all great for the price they are.
30 sec awning! Do it!

Good tip on the bottle jack. Thank you.

Japanese style bbq baby octopus is delicious, give that a go if you manage to catch some.
Congrats on your editing. Hope you find a good wind resistant awning supplier!
Get a bush company awning they can withstand decent winds with no legs
I have a Falcon 270 awning from 23zero, it stands up in storms rain and wind. tried all the cheapies but they all fell apart in the end.
