If they spent another whole season building up a relationship just to break them up like they did with Rini, I'm going to be pissed. What is the point of building these relationships just to tear them down immediately??
I personally think Gina deserves better than Ricky. I love Ricky, but he has showed almost no interest in Gina- he maybe liked her for like an episode or two, besides that it was all Nini and I just feel like Gina deserves someone who cares about her 100%, like EJ does.
Also, if they get Rina together, it's basically just repeating the plot of a girl leaving EJ and getting with Ricky which is kinda boring and shows a lack of creativity.

@@kirstenrox234 While that is _technically_ true, Ricky has showed barely any interest in Gina. He liked her for an episode or two in season one, then focused on Nini completely and in season two, it was all Gina pining after him while he was completely in love with Nini and didn't really give Gina a second thought. Idk, I just think Gina deserves better- she was SO happy in all her scenes with EJ in season 2. (I also just don't want to watch a repeat of last year's plot bc that's boring)
@@jasmine511 "didn't give gina a second thought " is a lie because you see that in every conversation that they have in season 2 ricky is left absolutely confused. he didn't do anything about it because he was with nini, the writers were planning on breaking rini up since season 1 and you can see the little hints through the season, they didn't want gina to have anything to do with it so they gave her a new love interest for 5 episodes but you can see they didn't have any sort of deep connection like rina did. In conclusion they wanted us to see ricky and gina with other people before they actually get together to show their connection, they are a slowburn

Look even if Portwell makes it through the season (and that’s a big IF) as soon as EJ goes to college they’re done. Even if they haven’t broken up they’re still done, they just don’t realize it yet.
EJ could still be with Gina when he goes to college it’s not impossible maybe EJ will end up going to local college or something.

I'm a Portwell shipper through and through . . . but it's very obvious Rina will be endgame because Olivia is not a series regular anymore. If she was, Ricky's character would still be wanting to be with Nini. The fact that Ricky asked Lily out, I know for a fact, was going to make Nini jealous. I'm sure that's what they were planning to do, but since Olivia's songwriting career took off, they had to figure out something else. Unfortunately, the writers are just lazy and want Ricky (their main boy) to end up with someone and Gina is the obvious choice (she's now the main girl). I hate the fact that the writers get you shipping and rooting for two characters in a relationship, just to break them up the next season. It's truly stupid, but it is what it is. Just waiting for them to ruin Portwell because they don't know how to keep a main couple together.

The way their relationship crashed and burned in season 2 was too much to go back to.

they really tried hard not to spoil but they ended up spoiling the whole thing

PORTWELL 100 percent! Ej and Gina are perfect for each other, yes she has unresolved feelings for Ricky, but she seemed to get over them by the end of the second season and she seems really happy being with EJ. Ricky never really liked Gina as more than a friend, he really valued their friendship, but it wasn’t more than that, he outrightly and boldly declared he loved Nini on the opening night of HSM. EJ truly loved her but he didn’t make a move until he was sure she liked him back. Both of them help each other through tough times ( sofa scene). I really hope they don’t break up, and when EJ goes to college, they can still be together as he’s probably going to the Univ of Salt Lake, which is really close to East High, Please please may they be together forever!!!! 😘😘🤞🙏🏻
There is no such thing as University of Salt Lake but there is the University of Utah which is located in Salt Lake City, Utah

Miss Jenn mentioned the University of Utah in 2x01 that she got waitlisted from the University of Utah that is the only time that school was mentioned on the show.

S1 Ricky spends all season pursuing Nini, starts *something* with Gina, and gets back with Nini the minute Gina leaves. Then in S2 obsesses over Nini once again and instead of letting himself be alone texts Lily.

Team Rina all the way. It’s funny so many people in the comments keep saying Ricky hasn’t shown any interest in Gina. Well duhh he wanted Nini, his first love back? Obviously he wasn’t paying attention to Gina romantically, which is why he wasn’t picking up on the cues that she liked him. Literally the same argument can be used for EJ. He literally only payed attention to Gina romantically when he was single & over Nini (which makes sense cause why as a man in a relationship would you be looking at someone else). Ricky doesn’t even know that Gina liked him or that he hurt her like that. Gina and Ricky’s relationship have been building up since S1, and I can’t wait to see where it goes this season.

EJ is the reason Gina is still in any of their lives at all, and he wasn't even trying (he bought her a ticket for opening night just so she wouldn't miss out on the experience, which lead to her moving in with Ashlyn, and she was about to leave again until EJ made her feel heard by asking about her feelings just to be nice). While Gina and Ricky do share a special bond, their deepest moments are all rooted in trauma (they first bonded only after Ricky insulted her and had to apologize, next is when Ricky performs his acoustic song for her after it looks like Miss Jenn is going to be fired and the show will be cancelled, and finally Gina only admits her feelings when after she moved again) which has helped both of their characters develop, but isn't exactly a healthy basis for a romantic relationship.
Right?? Like Rina has good chemistry and as far as banter goes they're cute and wholesome. But Ej and Gina have been such a great dynamic since the beginning. EJ is a great guy and he has come far as a character. Part of his development is thanks to Gina, who was the only one to be there for him (intentionally or not). He was everything Gina wanted, he cared about the little gestures and trusted and reached out to her when no one else did. They shared a great bond as friends and their foundation for romance was solid. They were the front and center ship for s2 (like seriously- their scene ended the season). they grew so much as individuals and as a dynamic. It seems rushed to break them up without letting them have their time to shine. Gina cared about and loved EJ and vice versa, so it seems stupid that just cuz her old crush finally decides he likes her, she likes him back too without giving EJ a solid chance to explain himself.

To me Rina always has felt more real, their conversations and the way they relied on one another.
I won't mind either way, Portwell is cute and I really like Rina so... yeah
They had the entirety of season 2 and part of s1 so idk what you mean by rushed. They had a moment together every episode in s2 except for one episode. They also built up a friendship, though strictly casual, in s1, and EJ also bought her plane tickets to come back. They trusted and relied on each other when no one else did. They had a great dynamic and part of their individual character growth stemmed from their own friendship with each other. Gina saw the best in him during a time when he couldn't see himself as abything but a horrible person, yet at the same time she accepted his flaws too, and helped him (whether she meant to or not) be a better person. He was exactly what she needed, someone that saw her and heard her, someone who was there for her and cared for her. Time and time again, he did the small but very significant things, like the granola bar ON TOP of picking her up, the asking if she's okay, the plane tickets, and everything else in between. He wasbt 'trying to win her over' either, he just genuinely cared about her and loved her.
I'm not going to say Rina didn't have chemistry cuz they did. They bonded too but it was more of a trauma dump and similar home lives that connected them. They first really connected over that, but even so Ricky always chose Nini over Gina. He felt finally related to with Gina cuz she was going through similar stuff, especially cuz at the time he couldnt tell Nini about it, but never considered Gina anything more than a friend because he was going after Nini. He's not awful, especially in seasons 1 and 2, but he has a lot of things he could be focusing on, and I think time alone would help him grow.

Look I like Joshua Bassett and I’m not going to deny him and Sofia have great chemistry together but Ricky has for the last 2 seasons literally chosen Nini over Gina time and time again, now yes he could mature and evolve because he is just a teenager but point being that this season Ricky needs to work on himself first before getting into another relationship, EJ has been there for Gina and has showed up when no one in her life has, she’s even told Jack that it’s the one thing in her life she needs, and in turn Gina makes him a better person, I don’t need Portwell to end up together but the lovely built up for them last season only to have them crash and burn seems pointless to me. Let EJ and Gina enjoy their summer as a couple and then come season 4 see where they stand.

I think that Gina and EJ are so good together! Sure, EJ breaks the rules sometimes, but they are better when they have each other. I feel that both of them have learned their lesson and they work so well. For me personally, I’ve always thought there’s been a bit of friction Ricky and Gina because like, Ricky has pushed her away so many times, he cared about her for a bit and made Gina like him and then he broke her heart by getting back together with Nini. Tbh, that’s what I think really.
I think Ricky has always cared about her. which is why I'm rooting for their friendship to be repaired before anything else. Ricky's not a bad guy, but he can be a bit careless - or oblivious - to people's feelings sometimes.

Jason Earles at 2:17 is exactly how I feel about the triangle. I know the season is over and Rina is Endgame (for now), but why did they set up Portwell for the entirety for season 2, have great development for both gina and ej, and let us all excited about their very cute, wholesome, and well-written relationship just to have it all crash and burn? Ej is a great guy who deserves happiness, and he has now lost 2 girls to Ricky Bowen within the same year. Insane 😂
Portwell. Relationship was the setup for Gina - she had to explore her options that were out there so she can find out what she truly desires - the relationship itself was based on the idea on wanting to feel loved so everything that they would face together would be two sided and different instead of together - like even the last ep of s2 for me hinted how their relationship would be foreshadowed - ej not communicating his thoughts to Gina - Gina never knowing why …portwell relationship also remind me of hsm2 when troy starts to drift apart from Gabrella and his friends , making promises he couldn’t keep it and gradually it affect his relationship with Gabriella - the difference is that Troy decided to fix things at the end with Gabriella but with Ej he was ready to accept everything that occur for his future

Tim started changing stuff - planning their ending game before we as fans already had an opinion
Olivia leaving had nothing to do with that - wether she stayed or went - she and Ricky were never gonna be endgame - s1 massively gave us so many hints on the predictable outcome - they only grew as characters when they were apart or when broke up. Their breakup in S2 allowed NINI for ONCE to be honest with Ricky and for Ricky to aligned with that.

Huh honestly this is extremely excellent and I think it's really interesting high school musical is really amazing ever I think it's the best character on the musical and she is absolutely cool ever I think it's really fantastic ever nice 🙂
