To me, the Yamaha is superior. I have a fairly good electric violin, but would have bought a Yamaha YEV years ago if I could afford it. Expert playing, by the way.

There are more subharmo,ics in th wooden type, it's most anchored, but there is also a psychologic attitude to analyze because the 'player' had a preference before recording here, and it is important for number of harmonic reverberations even in "timbre". There are also distorisions in wood basses in electric test, but it's probably because the reactivity of wood is the best speed in frequences, where the Yev has its advantage, to have wooden not completely carboned resonances, as the wooden one, but even if amplitude of Yev is very precise that is a quality, wooden has a personality, reverb is better parametered in Yev test. I think there is, as usual, personal meets between a practicer and his.her instrument, each instrument can be adequate and not another one in the same class or classification, serial reference. It is the same thing as for Prolog clarinet I had to test in 1992 during operette and opera Festival, for Selmer which was and is a very good factory for instruments, they have just decided to do something which has not been understood with eben wood, but also with people who had to manage this factory in decisions that have maybe not be completely their one and it has been of course a problem of human interest added with financial managing interest, but it is not a debate, of course, too. What I mean here is there have been a test for "joints toriques" as the same as in water conduction elements for etancheity if the term is adequate in english, in french it is. It has quite completely blocked the clarinet elements at the end of the representation where I came back hotel with a wood tube of one meter and a half in the hands, and it was a little difficult to protect it, Nature had decided it should not rain this night and it was spring season, a sort of chance. It was not really a bad idea, but I was really not the moment for asking me this type of test for clarinet technical caracteristics development, when I had to chain one operette or one opera during one month and a half in two days for each one, a spring festival, of course, very good first professional practice, directly probably the most diffiult one, about eighteen hours music with orchestra two days by two days, so in twenty-four to fourty-eight hours periods one month and more duration. The technial built of an instrument can be very good if really it is innovation, and here, of course, carbon built is an evolution even for Nature, it depends on ecoresponsability, of course. Firstly, a project to be realistic has to be Good, if not, no time to lose trying, don't care. Here, it is possible it is good. Just think to one important thing: nobody has money, but 61 individues on Earth on today, if I resume the situation (cf. oxfam and so on).

But as they are different in their construction (YEV doesn’t have a resonance body like the Glasser and the wooden violin) it could sound different - so that the amount of reverb could suit better the electric instrument. The Glasser kind of has the most reverb a priori.

@swlbarely Yes, the Yamaha YEV has nearly the same weight as a wooden violin - it’s just slightly heavier (maybe 100 grams).
The 5 string Violin offers the possibility of playing the Bach 6 Cello Suites in their Original Key an Octave Higher
