The song is about an artist, in this case a musician as BTS are, losing their passion for their art, in this case making music. They were going through a rough time from burn out when this was written so the song reflects how they were feeling. Thanks for appreciating their talent and taking time watching the guide to find out why we think they are so extraordinary! 💜🫶
This song is a ballet! They hired a ballet troupe to dance it for them first. It's about a black swan who is rejected by the white swans. The black swan gets a mental illness and dies. Jimin worked for days on his solos, to exhaustion.
@@SusieQ1955Umm this song is about how artists experience two deaths. One of those deaths is when they lose passion for their art or when they are no longer able to do their art.
As an older army, I have experienced many western boy bands and there really in no comparison. BTS has raised the bar higher than any western boy band can reach. Their dedication to their craft and their fans is crazy. They are true artists spreading great messages through their music.
Yes!! You're absolutely right, i couldn't agree more. I'm 39 so I experienced BSB era and of course I became their fan right away, and as much good dancers they were given that time and their beautiful and high vocals, this is a completely another level of artistry like there's never been before and i doubt there will be again besides them. This is the reason why the word Perfection exist . To describe them
Exactly this! Their performances are absolutely magnetic. You can tell in every stage that they have done, they give nothing less than their 200%. Every. Single. Time. They always being their absolute best to the table. You can feel their passion through the screen, their song their lyrics, their dance. They are incredible artists, performers, singers, rappers, dancers. It is easy to see why they climbed to fame. You will never see these boys give anything less than their best efforts. Never. Every time I watch a reaction video, I cannot help but be drawn to their performance and completely forget that I am even watching a reaction video. They are just THAT good They deserve all the fame, love and adoration they have now. I have been an army for many many years now with good reason. Their performances are complete. The lyrics, their dancing, singing and rapping, their facial expressions, their stage presence. You can tell that every part of their performance has been practiced down to the last detail. They are seriously incredible, and I absolutely cannot wait for them to all come back and tear the stage apart with their brilliant talent and passion. I just cannot wait for them to take the front stage again and take the world by storm!
3:34 when you said, "No one sticks out." Omg i felt YOU UNDERSTAND! The discipline and that synergy is unreal! The way they compliment each other so well but at the same time being so different from each other!
1) they are in a real place, its in LA ( i think.) 2) Jimin is a classically trained dancer and i honestly feel that without his dancing the video would not be what it is 3) this song is so incredibly powerful. This song from what ive read is about an artist falling out of love with their art and how tragic it is. I can feel the pain they're talking about and cry almost every time i hear this song because of it.
This is one of my FAVORITE songs and MVs!!! Glad you reacted to it!!! There is a lot of meaning to most of their songs! With this one they speak of something that any person who lives for making art faces: losing the passion for creating. "A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful." This quote by the late dancer Martha Graham opens the video and is at the root of the sentiments inlaid in "Black Swan." Much like a dancer feels purposeless when they can no longer express themselves through dance, BTS contends that the day that music no longer fills them with the same passionate fire as before, or even if there came a day when they stopped creating music - what they feel is their life's purpose - it would feel like death. Leader RM sings: "If this can no longer resonate / No longer make my heart vibrate / Then this may be how I die my first death." As you can imagine, we ARMY LOVE how they share their pain, hopes, triumphs, and love with us through their music and they give us hope. I am SO GLAD you are watching the guide!!! We definitely want to see your reactions!!!!! They work their butts off and almost all their MVs have dance practices! And most of their songs have something stating what the members were feeling when they wrote the song. When you watch Blood, Sweat and Tears (a must, especially coming from a Christian singing group) has ALOT of symbolism! I recommend after you watch it,watch Xceleste's video explanation! Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/VsJxiPzi4K8/w-d-xo.html And their behind the scenes are great too!!! Just so you know, JK/JUNGKOOK is my bias. He has THE GLOBAL number one song right night that has been on the top since it's debut - SEVEN feat Latto. Their is an official mv and a dance performance mv....and 2 behind the scenes. Also my other bias is V, Taehung.... Love Me Again and Rainy Days. Definitely check those out. Actually be ALL BTS members have done their SOLO albums/performances over the past year, as they have MANDATORY enlistment in South Korea. All men who are able to have to do this by 30😢. So they are on a hiatus as a group until 2025. Jin and Hobi (who headlined Lallapaloza last year to a sold-out crowd)are currently serving and RM and SUGA will be next, then the Maknae (youngest members) line: Jimin, V, JK, by the end of the year. I know you have asked for other groups/music from other k-pop, but for most of us, BTS is it. Just being honest!!! 😊
I think you said you're not a big rap fan..(I'm over 70 yo, I hear you) but this is from their album MOTS7, one of the best concept albums ever made. (my very serious opinion and I had Moody Blues original albums). Another song with a performance video from this album, that if not for the pandemic, would have had it's own album, is "Shadow'' by SUGA, it's a mainly rap song but the beat is enticing and the video itself is exquisite in symbolism. Let's get some votes for Shadow...
This song is part of the Map of the Soul series which explores the philosophy of Swiss Psychiatrist Karl Jung. This song falls in the Shadow portion of the album. In it, BTS is discussing burnout and what would happen if they lost their love of music. They call that loss their first death.
The most amazing about BTS is, that these never sing playback in their concerts. They Dance and sing at the same time, not only lipsync. They work really, really hard and most other bands cannot compare with this level of dedication!
We, ARMY say the same thing. No one says you have to be a fan of BTS, but you have to at least respect the work they put into every piece of their art form.💜
Black Swan reminds me of a quote by Martha Graham, a famous dancer. Her quote was « A dancer dies twice, once when they stop dancing, and that first death is the most painful » So i think that here in this song bts is talking about their fear of losing their love and passion for music suga opens up the song saying « the music no longer makes the heart race, that would be my first death I’ve been always afraid of » They are terrified that the thing that made them feel everything - their music - will make them feel nothing."I been always afraid of if this can no longer resonate," RM raps, "No longer make my heart vibrate / Then like this may be how I die my first death." And then Jimin sings, "No song affects me anymore / Crying a silent cry." They are burnt out by the thing they love the most. but they have hope and don’t let it completely paralyze them. "Slowly, I open my eyes I’m in my workroom, it’s my studio," Suga raps. "The waves go darkly by in a throe / But I’ll never get dragged away again." Jin then says, "Nothing can devour me / I shout out with ferocity." I also saw some theories about the « do your thang with me now » it’s like Bts is talking to their fans, asking them to support them, and the « what’s my thang tell me now » some people see it as if they represent how an artist can be oppressed by the « fans »that always try to control them Rm talked about how they were planning to take their hiatus during the era when black swan was released(2020) but then COVID happened and they chose to stay to cheer up army They also talked about dynamite being an unplanned comeback, how they released that song just to bring some happiness (dynamite came out the same year as black swan if I’m correct) During the festa 2022, they also talked about how they were feeling burnt-out, that they needed a break long ago and that they were finally having it So personally, I think that when black swan was released, bts were suffering from this
I would also think the called 'Do your thang with me now' is also a call to each other as members to do their thing with each other as part of whole group dynamic. As has been said it is a direct reference to Martha's Quote about a dancer's first and most painful death.
This is one of BTS best album to date. Map of the soul. It literally is a visual and musical interpretation of the human psyche Based off of Carl Jung’s psychology. They explore different parts of the human psyche from the ego, the self, the shadow etc.
Love this song and their amazing performance, each one of them shines…. Jimin’s dance moves are out of this world!! Thanks for your reaction, love that you come from the same space as a musician and the additional producer touch.
I don’t speak Korean fluently, but I’ve listened to bts enough time (and also learnt hangeul, the Korean alphabet) so I can say that their pronunciation is great!! I can actually hear the syllables and grasp the words they’re saying (even though I can’t understand them without translation haha) and as you said there are so many rhymes!! I think if you close your eyes and focus on their voices, you can hear the rhymes and how the music flows smoothly even if you don’t speak Korean :)
It's usually not about being "bad" at pronunciation. it's usually a stylistic choice. Many singers and rappers will alter pronunciation to better fit the rhythm or rhyme or to maintain better vocal technique, word projection, or vocal color/tonal quality. Some words sound more "correct" when the pronunciation is altered when singing. In English, vowels especially are often swapped for another when sung. Ex. "sing" might become "sang" because "sing" can be too nasal for that part of the song while "sang" opens up the note. The listener will still often hear "sing" mostly due to the surrounding grammar. "I will sang from the mountains" will be heard as "I will sing from the mountains" simply because it makes sense grammatically.
@@ryoba.If u ever read comment in website or forum from korean netizen for some drama, usually they will complained about the actress/actor pronunciation beside the act skill. It also goes with singer, if they bad to pronounce it makes their lyrics unclear to heard n people will critique about it.
Their rhyme, word play, expression interchamging and mixing Korean and English is a thing of beauty. The lyricism is ia oftem like poetry. ARMY is very aware of the hard work, time, and energy BTS devote to their craft/art. But its always nice to hear someone who has experience from BTS'/performers/artist perspective who can also see and apprecaite what they do. And yes, EACH memeber is valuable and loved. If you keep going with this, you will see each person's gifts and how it all comes together synergistically. BTS is ALL 7 members. If one member is sick or hurt, the group will always leave a space when they are performing for that member. Also, the reapect, sincere gratitude, and love they have for ARMY is very special.
@@NathanWalters PLEASE make sure to watch this version: Black Swan & Dance Intro at Permission To Dance On Stage LA Day 4 2021 [ENG SUB] [Full HD] from Enjoy BTS More channel ( th-cam.com/video/GBLrVhiGxgU/w-d-xo.html ). BTW, I grew up listening to Christian music only. By the time your group Plus One came around, I was in college and out of the individual/group singers phase (more on worship group music like Passion and others). But in the 90s, my favorite was 4HIM. Anyways... thank you for giving BTS a chance. Their message is positive and good which is why they resonate with so many people regardless of age and walk of life. Also, their lyrics are about life in general and they are very particular about their word choice which allows us as listeners (after reading the lyrics) to be able to apply it individually. For example, when they sing about a struggle with a relationship- it's written in a way that it may apply to a romantic relationship, or a familial relationship or one that you have with a friend. Looking forward to more reactions.
Thanks for a great reaction. Love Black Swan. I saw them in LA 2021 for their PTD concert. The performance of Black Swan was magnificent. Stunning. Beautiful. 💜
Thanks for your reaction... This is one of my favorites songs and MV from BTS. The “Black Swan” performances represent BTS acknowledging their deepest fears and choosing instead to use those fears to grow creatively. It refers to the internal struggle of an artist falling out of love with their art. The song lends voice to the band’s darkest fears-the music they do will one day cease to touch or move them. Yet, every time they come face to face with this “Black swan” within themselves, they hear voices calling out from deep within their hearts and are stricken with the realization that music is all they have. This track is a confession of an artist who has truly learned what music means to himself. At the same time, it represents the hope and internal strength that we must have to hold on to what has made us feel alive at some time, not to give up, only we will be able to face our shadows and stop being our worst enemy. Black Zwan is from their Map of the Soul album series where they explore Jungian concepts of the Persona, Shadow and Ego. The shadow self is the subconscious hidden persona you have that holds your fears. To become a fully rounded person you need to confront your fears and accept they are part of you to form your full ego persona. In this song that is what they are doing. Their fear of losing passion for making music might have held them back but they confront that fear, accept it and can move on. In the video they are wearing white when they are being viewed from the audience and fan perspective, and they are presenting their persona to us, which is their stage persona. When they are wearing black they are showing us their fears from behind the scenes, from the back of the stage. Suga at one point says he looks inside himself and sees himself, he reaches out and touches the shadow that he was fearing and accepts it is just part of himself. At the very end Jungkook watches his shadow diminish and disappear - he has see his shadow, accepted it and can then move on. For future reactions I suggest the official youtube channel althoug sometimes the video can get blocked... Is a risk. Another channel you may want to check for live performances is "Enjoy BTS More" wich has eng subs Regards from Mexico
Thank you for the compliment about their dancing. In my opinion they are The Best dancers of any group ever at any time! When I first discovered them, February 24, 2020, I happened to be watching the Jimmy Fallon show. BTS performed "On" for the first time at Grand Central Station in NYC. I had never heard of them. Being a musical theatre person and choreographer, I was overwhelmed and mesmerized. I KNEW what it took to pull off that impeccable production. I immediately got on TH-cam to find out all about them. From that day, I've been watching BTS content every day. I never saw them make a dance mistake until after 6 months! One guy, RM, made one misstep. That's it. A brief history as why they are so good. When they started our they couldn't get booked. They weren't a part of the richest famous Big 3 Kpop organizations. Their boss, Mr. Bang, said...if they get booked it was like a one in a million chance to get noticed. His strategy was to have them perform The Best Choreography. The most in step. No mistakes. The most polished. Something no one had seen before. The most perfect. The "boys" practiced and practiced for hours and hours. They even had to look at the same spot. Their head and eye placement had to have the exact same focus. Jin had never danced before so after practice, he hired a tutor to help him learn and get better. Changing from contemporary to HipHop, Jimin had a hard time adjusting to the style. He started sleeping in the dance studio and would practice extra hours, too. They became highly polished, and they were noticed! And thus began their legacy and reputation as The Best dancers. At their last concert together before solo work and military assignments, they performed a brand new song and choreography. "RunBTS". The intricate choreography, the length of the song, the energy required to dance it, the coordination with a stage full of backup dancers, the tricky tricks they pulled with props, the perfect performance is still a WOW for all of Army and the world that witnessed the performance. So your observation and praise about their dance quality is very much appreciated. Oh, not to forget.. they dance all genres of dance. Not just KPop kpoppy dances!
I really enjoy watching professionals reacting to BTS because you can understand the hard work behind their success and analyze details both in production, vocals, instruments and dance. So keep them coming! I’m totally up for further analysis of the songs. 💜
The song was inspired by a quote by great choreographer Martha Graham. “A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.”
This song was inspired by Martha Graham's quote, "A dancer dies twice -- once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful." Jimin is the shadow dancer throughout the video. In my mind, the last scene represents his last performance. The song is about them losing their ability to dance/perform. Thanks for the reaction. Borahae 💜
🤗💜Yes, RESPECT, is the best word to apply to BTS, AMAZING also. Will love to hear your responses to all of their body of work. You are the perfect person to know what they have been through to get here. Thanks so much for sharing the experience with us. 💜🤗🌎🎶
To echo the person before me. When an artist loses their craft it has always been considered their first death. Something I hope NEVER happens to BTS. When you talk about the countless hours honing your craft they talk about this in the DOPE MV. The whole song is a message for their haters. I think it IS what you were expecting from Black Swan, AGRESSION! Thanks again for your thoughtful reaction. It's so nice to hear from somebody that's been there and can truly appreciate all that BTS is. Incidentally, Black Swan was filmed at Los Angeles Theater, an epic venue.
This song is my absolute fav from BTS. I'm completely in love with it! 💜💜💜 The live version on Jimmy Fallon and James Corden are definitely worth checking out, and the live performances especially with the background dancers.....stunning!!!
Hi Nathan. I keep trying to figure out the intro song since the 1st BTS reaction. And hah, I finally got it. It's Written In My Heart. I remember borrowing my friend's The Promise casette tape and another friend's Walkman way back in highschool to listen to Plus One. The nostalgia made me check back the entire The Promise album. Anyway, I'm glad you found BTS. I would just like you to know that for the Magic Shop reaction you did, that was a fan-made MV. The song does not have an official MV so sometimes fans would make MVs using scenes taken from other songs' official MVs. If you want to avoid fan-made MVs, since they can be very confusing with all the stitched videos, I recommend making sure you are watching MVs from Hybe Labels, the official channel of their label. Another official channel of BTS is Bangtantv for behind the scenes, vlogs, etc.
Awe. Thanks for sharing about Plus One. I honestly haven’t listen to the entire album in a while. Maybe I should do that too! So glad it it brought back great memories for you. Yes, in regards to BTS, I found out that’s a fan made video after the fact! Oh boy. Now I know what to do to make sure I get the official videos. Thank you!!
Magic Shop is one of my favorites from them. And yeah, there's a lot of favorites since it's really hard to pick just one when there discography is large and varied. You may want to try to react to a live performance of Magic Shop. Most of BTS MVs are super intriguing and even full of symbolisms that they lead fans to discussing theories and such. But BTS really shines during live performances. So, for full enjoyment, I highly recommend watching a Magic Shop live performance. This is a fan song. And whenever BTS sings this to the fans, the fans respond and participate.
Hi! 51 year old ARMY from TN here. I had never been in a fandom before finding BTS in 2014. I have always loved music but never dug into the meaning of the lyrics or about the history of the artists or anything like that until finding BTS. Before BTS, I listened to pretty much every genre of music. Now, however, I almost only listen to BTS. There are a few other Korean acts that I am quite fond of but I don't consider myself part of their fandoms. You might want to check out the work of the producer/artist Primary. RM once did a feat on a track called U. Then there is Epik High. They are a legendary hip hop group that had a huge influence on BTS. You will hear mentioned in several places that both RM and Suga were inspired by Epik High and specifically their track Fly. Epik High has been around since 2001 so they have a pretty extensive discography like BTS. Also, the leader of the group Tablo has a solo career as well. Tablo feats on RM's track All Day from his Indigo album and Suga produced a track called Eternal Sunshine for Epik High's Sleepless In ________ album. There is the singer Eric Nam. He is a Korean American polyglot who chose to go to Korea to pursue a music career. He is also kind of the go to interviewer when big celebs go to Korea (if he is not busy with his own work). Finally, I would like to mention a group called MFBTY. They are a 3 person group made up of husband and wife team Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae and their friend Bizzy. Tiger JK used to be part of a hip hop duo called Drunken Tiger back in the day and is often called the grandfather of K hip hop. RM has featured on a track called BuckuBucku for MFBTY and a track called Timeless for Tiger JK. Those are the other main K acts that I listen to. I am not going to lie, I find it difficult to listen to American radio anymore. Anyway, thanks so much for your reactions-love them! Please do whatever makes you comfortable. ARMY will watch a Taylor guide reaction all the way through every time despite the fact we have already seen it 400 times. ARMY doesn't mind long form content reactions. And I would love to see you dive into the lyrics and/or watch explainer videos that give cultural context to the lyrics.
The song concept was inspired by the quote ""A dancer dies twice -- once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful." and is something many artists and performers encounter. This song was written during the time that the members were experiencing extreme burnout, exhaustion, and contemplating disbanding. They were afraid of losing their passion for music and performing and ending up just going through the motions. The shadow represents the spectre of this, always lingering in the background, potentially growing, until one day, you lost your passion. There are a lot of subtle references and symbolism in the video that are easy to miss as viewers are focused on the performer. Look at the white costumes; some of them have bits of black on them, feathers or black dye creeping up the sleeve or the base of the jacket representing the "black swan" starting to grow in them. The shadows behind each member when they are singing their part move of their own accord and not an image of what the singer is doing. Again representing that the shadow of the blackness that always follows them has a life of its own. You noticed the shadow on the wall behind Yoongi when he was singing but look at the scene when RM is singing. His shadow is on the ceiling above him and also moving of its own accord, not reflecting his movements. Look at Jin in the scene at the 2:30 minute. He is staring at his reflection in a multitude of mirrors but do you notice that when he turns his head back to look into the camera, his reflection does not change. We should see his head move in the mirrors and see the back/side of his head but we don't. We still see his face representing that he is fracturing into multiple personas and losing himself. The same thing when Jin is walking past a wall of mirrors singing; there is no reflection of him. He is dressed in black perhaps signifying the complete loss of himself and therefore that could be why his reflection does not appear. A lot of the scenes where they are dressed in black have dance movements that appear writhing, perhaps showing the struggle to fight the blackness. The final scene where the shadow behind Jungkook becomes smaller and disappears indicates that they are still strong enough to overcome the loss of the passion and the blackness waiting to overtake them diminishes. Not today, shadow, not today.
Loosing the love for something your so passionate about is such a scary thing, they portrayed this so well, through this song and through the video -A 40 year old Army and boy band junkie since the 80s 😂
I’ve watched your reactions because you have a unique perspective having been in a musical group/band. You might know how hard the industry can be and really understand their struggles along the journey to success. You may not have a hip hop background, but you would appreciate the entire package of vocals, rap, production, dance and style. I hoped you would react to a guide (and the guide by Taylor is very good) - on screen. Mainly because it’s one way to gage your unfiltered thoughts and feelings about the band, the members and their music. Plus it’s always nice to see the moment someone “gets it” with BTS and sometimes it’s a music video, but more often, it’s a summary or a guide. I’ll keep tuning in and wishing you the best!
This MV is pure art. The live version is amazing too. I agree with you. People who don’t like their songs should still appreciate their talent and dedication that takes to be so good ❤
Nathan, I just love hearing your perspective on one of my fave BTS songs. You, more than most people, truly have an insider view of how much hard work goes into a performance like this! Thank you for sharing your unique insights. I agree that every frame looks like a photo. The artistry here is amazing! I recommend viewing a live performance, as they are great as well.
I've been watching and listening to MVs long enough that if there are translations? Subtitles became the norm for me. I took a speed reading course back in high school, which still helps me read the lyrics on the bottom of the screen at a glance. Your brain, ears, and eyes learn to work together to combine everything. Great reaction to 'Black Swan!'
The dong us about the fear of losing their passion for what they’re doing… music, dance, anything artistic. That would be a first death and a more painful one than the actual physical death.💜
This mv is pure art. 'Every shot is like a photo shoot'. I so agree. I would love to have stills from this. It is just so beautiful. Looking forward to watching Taylor's Guide with you. 💜
I really love your reactions. Thank you for coming down this rabbit hole. You could check out some of their solo work they are putting out since they all have to go to the Army and will be coming back together in 2025. RM - Wildflower Jin - Astronaut Suga - Amygdala J-Hope - More Jimin - you already checked out his video V - Love Me Again Jungkook - Seven
Yes… I forget about that. You may want to do it and decide whether you think it would be okay to post. It is a great song. You can check out Haegeum. Sorry that I forgot about the age warning.
There are so many layers to this video. Parts of it are a continuation of the Bangtan Universe story. Part of it is a response to what they went through when they almost broke up in 2018 and part of it is pure art. Personally, I think this is their opus magnum...thus far. This is where BTS became something much more than a pop group. FYI it was filmed at the Los Angeles Theatre.
BTS filmed Black Swan at the Los Angeles Theatre in the Broadway Theater District of Los Angeles. The theatre was built in the 1930s, and its interior was modeled after the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles.
As a former dancer this choreography pleases my soul! One of my faves that they end the same way they started but in reverse with the hands. I once had a performance we did that and its not a very common thing.
all seven write and produce music. I sent you videos a while back of their history... they do it all from very humble and rejected beginnings. They were one of the first groups to use youtube to communicate with personal logs because no one would give them air time. That has taken them to where they are today. Check out MMA2019 live award show performances, it's like a full concert. Namjoon thinks different and they revere him as a poetic lyricist. He is a genius, really. Check out mv's of I"dol, DNA, Not Today, Blood, Sweat, and Tears, Fire, On: Kinetic Manifesto, Mic-Drop a classic," and Magic Shop Live concert version, and Born Singer.
BTS are true artists, each with unique talents. Hardly just another “boy band.” I can’t believe I didn’t discover them until 2021. I’m really enjoying your perspective, Nathan, because you know what you’re talking about.
Oh and as for their Korean delivery - I'm very very far from fluent but I've been studying it and it's a lot easier to hear the rhymes now. The lyrics flow much better than the translations 😂 There's a shooting sketch for this music video that's great and another behind the scenes of just Jimin recording that dance solo. Both very worth checking out. The meaning of the song is pretty straightforward but that last shot is open for interpretation 😂 and yeah if you want to deep dive into lyrics I'd enjoy that!
BTS Black Swan also has an orchestra version too, check it out! Also good reacts! please react more on BTS (solo songs, award performances, live performances) and Sohyang!
@@NathanWaltersYes! You can find the orchestral version on their video called Black Swan Art Film. THAT was actually how they introduced this song to the world -- it was released before the MV track was! And yes, it's performed by MN Dance Company. That's the official vid.
So excited you got to start Taylor's guide. Trust me, Army loves watching reaction videos to that and we don't mind how long it is either. There is also videos on their dance practices and behind the scenes video of each music video. Black Swan is one of my favorite songs. Enjoyed your reaction. Check out born singer th-cam.com/video/dE68ZbmDi_A/w-d-xo.html. This video is a mix but it hits hard. Once you know their story, you understand their music better. If you want to watch things to know more. Check out their reality show RUN BTS, their Bon Voyage videos and their staycation videos - In The Soop. There is so much content on them you will never run out of things. There is also another video on BTS like Taylors but more about the group in general: th-cam.com/video/0KonKFssKnM/w-d-xo.html. 💜Borahae💜
Ohhhh Born Singer is a great idea... Especially when you're ready to dig into lyrics. Personally I like watching the earlier version and then the Proof live one, because it really shows how they've grown and changed (but it's still just as true).
Guys NO this guy is not our friend - homophobic, transphobic, anti vaxx Trump/Tate supporter. His account is getting plastered all over Twitter and being circulated by ARMYs for using our boys for clout & gain thousands of followers a day. Avoid & disassociate !!
This was filmed in a disused theatre in LA which is often used in films. The mirrored room Jin is in is the ladies loo. This showcases Jimin’s dancing and you can find a video of him filming his part. There is also a behind the scenes of the whole shoot.
In a nutshell, the song is about creative burnout. Something that every artist can relate to. I’m sure someone else will chime in about Black Swan and its significance to this song.
The lyrics are more poetic in Korean. Army uses doolset lyrics for the best translations. Based on the famous quote by Martha Graham, "a dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.” and also the famous ballet Swan Lake. In Swan Lake there are 2 swans, one white/good and the other black/evil. In most modern productions, both roles are played by the same dancer. Symbolizing the struggle within oneself between light and dark. BTS did a whole grouping of songs( and albums) about the shadowself. On a more basic level its about losing your passion and then consequently losing yourself. They have other videos based on Carl Jung's ideas and the book Daemian by Hermann Hesse about becoming an adult. So interesting!!!! The live performances of this song are jist stunning and they change it for every performance. I love the oriental instrumentation, think it's an erhu, and the bass. The bass hits on a different, "heart" level. Not sure I can explain that. Anyway, so glad you listened to it and I can't wait for the rest of Taylor's guide. 😘💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🫰🏻
Really a phenomenal MV! The behind-the-scenes Bangtan Bomb really highlights the creativity and artistry of the filmmakers too. The live performances they do of Black Swan, which includes ballet and many backup dancers and the members disappearing and reappearing right on stage, is a thing of artistic beauty.
Watching a live performance, too. Each one has a new twist and is amazing. The flow is like a swan on water. Probably watched 50 times and never gets old.
I subscribed to your channel. I’ve enjoyed your videos and reactions. You have a unique perspective from other reactors that I’ve seen so far in that you were in a boy band/ performing group for 5 years. You understand what it takes to debut and maintain in that high paced stressful industry. I hope you continue to react to BTS. I know there are good Korean performing groups. For me BTS speaks to me on a level that is different. I’m a silver ARMY (68 ) found them in 2015 thru my granddaughter. I can tell you that they saved me when I thought I couldn’t go on thru their music and lyrics. I watched them grow up into fine young men. I’m like a proud grandparent.
Highly recommend the reactor Tribe Loui if you haven't seen him yet. He got into BTS a few months ago and fell deep lol, added a 7 to his Twitter and everything. And follows news on the boys, makes funny posts . He pulls up doolsetbangtan lyrics a lot of the time and has it on split screen. Takes his time to review lyrics. And then listens to the albums on his own time, comes back in the next video to share his more in depth thoughts on it. And yeah, he does full album reviews. He first took his time to deep dive into each individual member first, like discography and personality. And then went into their group discography in chronological order after that. And he watches everything, like everything. Interviews, Suchwita, lives, dance practice, compilations, Run BTS, Rise of Bangtan, AHL, etc. It's very satisfying lol. Another very genuine thing about Loui is that he keeps everything on Patreon free of charge, donating is optional. He posts the vids that get blocked on YT there. So definitely a very sincere genuine reactor.
Black Swan is one of my favorite BTS songs & music videos. I hesitate to call it a song & video, because they're really artistic masterpieces. BTS is what's formulated when Big Hit placed 7 musical geniuses together in one group, and the world hasn't been the same. Saranghae BTS! 💜💜💜
I think it'd be really cool if you reacted to some of their live performances in these videos after you watch the studio version of whatever song you're checking out at the time! You'll just be in awe of their incredible vocal talent/stability AND the ability to do it while dancing around on stage 🙂
Not gonna lie, I was a bit sceptical of your interest in BTS but the fact you actually started watching Taylor's guide on your own time impressed me. ARMY often experiences reactors who basically use BTS (and other artists) for views so a lot of us grew into a welcoming but tough audience. I'm looking forward to your upload of the guide and don't worry about the video lenght, ARMY loves long-form videos in general. As a side info, since you mentioned producing. Lyrics tend to be credited to the members while production is split among in-house producers, BTS, their CEO and at times, outside producers. Yoongi (or SUGA) has described it as a year-long song camp where everybody can submit their compositions that gets rejected, accepted, sorted, etc. When a composition is chosen, everybody has a say in how it should be further progressed which is why their music tends to utilize many layers of different elements that work cohesively. In a way, it mimics the group dynamic of BTS. So credits are like "roles" within the group, a person might be called the main dancer but everybody dances at a high level; specific members might be credited with most of the lyrics & composing but all members are composers & songwriters. This isn't much mentioned in Taylor's guide, that's why I thought you might be interested knowing.
Highly recommend the reactor Tribe Loui if you haven't seen him yet, he's one of the most genuine I've seen. Even watched RM's indigo film interview and convo with Pharrell. He does things so thoroughly that it's very satisfying lol. He has a long time Army helping guide him through content, has spreadsheets lol. He even listens to some songs that most Army hasn't even heard of yet, the under the radar ones. I always come across some new BTS content I haven't seen before on his channel Another very genuine thing about Loui is that he keeps everything on Patreon free of charge, donating is entirely optional. He posts the vids that get blocked on YT there. So definitely a very sincere genuine reactor. The type of reactor who is worthy of support
One thing you have to remember when reacting to any BTS song is that there is always an accompanying in-depth explanation for each and every song they release. Always star with the MV, follow it up with the explanation video of that specific song and then watch the behind the scene video of how they built up the concept and sequencing of their MVs. You will get to extremely appreciate them as artists, their individual and collective talent - basically geniuses at their own right. 💜💜💜
They used to practice sometimes 16 hours straight. Running on treadmills and singing to stabilize their voices. Theyve done a lot of practice. And that’s a real place its a theatre in LA
When the inspiration or ability to create fades away, and the music no longer flows from the heart, the crowds no longer gather, and applause is only a memory...for what is a dancer without a dance, a musician without a song, and artist without a vision? When you can no longer sing, or dance, or draw crowds, indeed it is a type of death more painful in some ways than death itself.
It's about fearing you will get to a point where you lose your passion and inspiration for your art. Based on Duncans quote a dancer dies twice. ( the first death is when they can no longer perform). Inspired also by the movie Black Swan where the dancer is driven to madness.
Their music and their lyrics are great but I think the biggest part of their popularity is their performances AND choreography. Keep watching the official videos and definitely stage performances, nothing compares.
Black Swan represents the Martha Graham quote as stated earlier in the feed. They are facing their fears and pushing through so the ending shot is them expelling their fears (the shadow) and moving forward. When they wrote this song they were having a hard time because of constantly working with no time off to reflect. And it was filmed at the Los Angeles Theatre. It was directed by Yong Seok Choi of Lumpens who BTS has worked extensively with. And the synchronization goes all the way back to training days when Bang P D would watch practice videos frame by frame to make sure they all matched. To this day you can see it their mannerisms.
Fun fact: The dancer that came up with this choreography is Brazilian and there are a lot of capoeira elements into it. And, of course, Jimin takes that to another level. Legend. All 7 are amazing dancers. They have an Olympic athlete's level of physical endurance training and lifestyle. It's not something that can be achieved only with a kpop company's expectations and demanding schedule. They each had and have put in work waaay beyond that. That's why a lot of hyped groups, even from their own company, can't seem to keep up with them. It's crazy.
I think Black Swam is a story written by Martha Graham, famous dancer. This performance is why I"m obsesses with BTS and was hooked in the first place. It's phenomenal in every aspect ...
Great job! A "Black Swan" refers to an out-of-the-ordinary event that has extreme impact. The term was first applied as a metaphor for that which could not exist by Roman satirist Juvenal. In 82 AD he wrote of "a rare bird in the lands, and very like a black swan." According to the description of “Black Swan” on Melon, Martha Graham’s quote was the inspiration for the song. “Black Swan” tells the story of a dancer, an artist, who fears the death of their career: the moment when they can no longer perform on stage. The moment when music no longer touches BTS’s hearts or stirs their passion is the moment when the specter of that “first death” appears. looking at Martha Graham’s life, fans may notice some similarities between her work and BTS’s. For instance, in her 70-year career, Martha Graham choreographed 181 ballets, some of which were inspired by Greek mythology. One of her most famous ballets is Clytemnestra, based on an ancient Greek legend. BTS introduced a blend of Greek mythology and Jungian psychology in their 2019 album, MAP OF THE SOUL: Persona. This is most prominently seen in their song, “Dionysus”. For the next 1500 years, the phrase "all swans are white" was used as a standard example of a well-known truth. It was a huge surprise to Europeans when they received news that a black swan had been sighted in 1697 on the western coast of Australia. It seemed to them that a perceived impossibility had actually come to pass. BTS goes deep into themselves as they explore what music means to them as artists. Their "black swan" is the fear that one day music and showmanship will no longer be able to move or touch them. RM raps (translated into English): I been always afraid of if this can no longer resonate No longer make my heart vibrate Then like this may be how I die my first death The thought that one day their art will make them feel nothing is a terrifying one. Musically, this is similar to the emo hip-hop employed by BTS on their 2018 hit "Fake Love." The song is accompanied in the words of BTS , an "art film." Directed by YongSeok Choi, the clip features an interpretive performance by Michal Rynia and Nastja Bremec Rynia of the Slovenian modern dance troupe MN Dance Company, to an orchestral version of the song. The visual does not feature an appearance by the band themselves. The video opens with a quote from famed dance and choreographer Martha Graham: "A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is more painful." This reflects the song's message about an artist's relationship with their work. The 2010 psychological horror thriller film Black Swan served as an inspiration for both the song and the video. The movie, about a ballerina's struggle with her own sanity, is a metaphor for achieving artistic perfection, and the price the artist pays for it. BTS performed the song live for the first time during the January 28, 2020 episode of James Corden's The Late Late Show. The seven members melancholy rendition found them dancing barefoot over an illuminated floor flanked by a dark and unsettling forest.
I’m glad that you noticed the details that BTS puts into their songs, MV, and lyrics. The song talks about being burned out in the industry and their craft 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Great reactions. Thank you. I love to watch you because you're not pretentious, despite the fact that you have a more in depth experience in the music industry than most of us. You are confident in your own successes without being jealous and therefore, overly critical of our boys. Instead, you can appreciate the amount of work that goes into their performances more. You also have a great sense of humor. I look forward to seeing your reactions pop up in my feed. I'm an older ARMY in my 40s, so I'm not familiar with Plus One (my generation had New Kids On The Block 😆), but congratulations on your achievements and good luck in this new journey! 💜
I love learning from your producer experience. I read through the comments and did not see anyone say that the boys made the shadows of each other. Thanks for giving us another view of this epic group!
The platinum records/awards are 700+ and cover a HUGE wall. Todays count is larger as taylors vid is two years old I believe and they’ve won more. And ARMY (their fan base) are VERY aware of the hard work they have done, and the artistry involved.
One of my favorites songs (you'll see that it's impossible to choose ONE favorite or even the TEN ones)... It makes me so proud (I don't know why, but this is the feeling most of us feel) to see your eyes shining while "discovering" them!! Their diversity, excellency and, mainly, perseverance and resilience are simply absurd! That's why I fell in love with them, who never in my life had been not even a fan of any artist.... Maybe Bee Gees and MJ, but not to the point to listen to them every single day, like I do today with BTS. I think you'll like to watch Blood, Sweat and Tears next. Ah! To understand better some of the most iconics songs you have to know about Jung's Map of the Soul. Persona, Shadow and Ego are three important parts of it. (And they are three songs I recommend you to watch) Black Swan talks about the fear they have to lose their love for what they do. Our shadow can make us suffering, but at the same time is the fuel for our artistry. We need to control it in order not to be swallowed by it.
I think their is a explanation video. or one with RM talking about the meaning.
@@SusieQ1955Umm this song is about how artists experience two deaths. One of those deaths is when they lose passion for their art or when they are no longer able to do their art.
This one of the most beautiful songs and my favorite.
G DRAGON THE KING G DRAGON
jimin def stands out in this one. his contemporary dance background came THROUGH for this song and it is truly incredible to watch.
That was jimin who do the shadow dance
J hope did namjoons

Tudo que o jimin faz é perfeito é maravilhoso ❤❤❤❤
As an older army, I have experienced many western boy bands and there really in no comparison. BTS has raised the bar higher than any western boy band can reach. Their dedication to their craft and their fans is crazy. They are true artists spreading great messages through their music.
I do in an older army, and there are phenomenal. I’ve never seen anything like them for a joy to watch.
To describe them
you said this perfectly
Exactly this! Their performances are absolutely magnetic. You can tell in every stage that they have done, they give nothing less than their 200%. Every. Single. Time. They always being their absolute best to the table. You can feel their passion through the screen, their song their lyrics, their dance. They are incredible artists, performers, singers, rappers, dancers. It is easy to see why they climbed to fame.
You will never see these boys give anything less than their best efforts. Never. Every time I watch a reaction video, I cannot help but be drawn to their performance and completely forget that I am even watching a reaction video. They are just THAT good
They deserve all the fame, love and adoration they have now.
The way they compliment each other so well but at the same time being so different from each other!
love this song!! jimin showed his amazing contemporary dancing skills in it 💗💗

WHO?
@@himaririku9254jajaja ya me estaba preocupando, no podía ver tu comentario.😂😂😂
1) they are in a real place, its in LA ( i think.)
2) Jimin is a classically trained dancer and i honestly feel that without his dancing the video would not be what it is
3) this song is so incredibly powerful. This song from what ive read is about an artist falling out of love with their art and how tragic it is. I can feel the pain they're talking about and cry almost every time i hear this song because of it.
Song is really good and jimin's contemporary dance 🕺 is just cherry 🍒 on top❤
It's Art and Jimin's dancing throughout takes it to another level of Excellence 💜💜💜
This is one of my FAVORITE songs and MVs!!! Glad you reacted to it!!! There is a lot of meaning to most of their songs!
With this one they speak of something that any person who lives for making art faces: losing the passion for creating.
"A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful."
This quote by the late dancer Martha Graham opens the video and is at the root of the sentiments inlaid in "Black Swan." Much like a dancer feels purposeless when they can no longer express themselves through dance, BTS contends that the day that music no longer fills them with the same passionate fire as before, or even if there came a day when they stopped creating music - what they feel is their life's purpose - it would feel like death. Leader RM sings: "If this can no longer resonate / No longer make my heart vibrate / Then this may be how I die my first death."
As you can imagine, we ARMY LOVE how they share their pain, hopes, triumphs, and love with us through their music and they give us hope.
Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/VsJxiPzi4K8/w-d-xo.html
And their behind the scenes are great too!!!
G DRAGON KING -
I think you said you're not a big rap fan..(I'm over 70 yo, I hear you) but this is from their album MOTS7, one of the best concept albums ever made.
Yes Shadow is amazing!!
This song is part of the Map of the Soul series which explores the philosophy of Swiss Psychiatrist Karl Jung. This song falls in the Shadow portion of the album. In it, BTS is discussing burnout and what would happen if they lost their love of music. They call that loss their first death.
I was hoping you would watch Taylor's guide with us, thankyou, please do watch it live😭. I've watched it billions of times but it never gets old👏🏽.
Her quote was « A dancer dies twice, once when they stop dancing, and that first death is the most painful »
So i think that here in this song bts is talking about their fear of losing their love and passion for music
suga opens up the song saying « the music no longer makes the heart race, that would be my first death I’ve been always afraid of »
They are terrified that the thing that made them feel everything - their music - will make them feel nothing."I been always afraid of if this can no longer resonate," RM raps, "No longer make my heart vibrate / Then like this may be how I die my first death."
And then Jimin sings, "No song affects me anymore / Crying a silent cry." They are burnt out by the thing they love the most.
but they have hope and don’t let it completely paralyze them. "Slowly, I open my eyes I’m in my workroom, it’s my studio," Suga raps. "The waves go darkly by in a throe / But I’ll never get dragged away again." Jin then says, "Nothing can devour me / I shout out with ferocity."
I also saw some theories about the « do your thang with me now » it’s like Bts is talking to their fans, asking them to support them, and the « what’s my thang tell me now » some people see it as if they represent how an artist can be oppressed by the « fans »that always try to control them
Rm talked about how they were planning to take their hiatus during the era when black swan was released(2020) but then COVID happened and they chose to stay to cheer up army
They also talked about dynamite being an unplanned comeback, how they released that song just to bring some happiness (dynamite came out the same year as black swan if I’m correct)
During the festa 2022, they also talked about how they were feeling burnt-out, that they needed a break long ago and that they were finally having it
So personally, I think that when black swan was released, bts were suffering from this
Great explanation 💜
your suga photo lol
Not just reminds, it's a direct reference.
@@KassandraTheClericI was about to say the same thing, it is a direct reference its already mentioned in the dance video of black swan
Jimin es un experto en danza contemporánea sus movimientos son increíbles tienes que ver una presentación de ellos en vivo.❤
Can you be bad at pronouncing words in your native language tho?
@@ryoba.yes, yes you can
It's usually not about being "bad" at pronunciation. it's usually a stylistic choice.
Yes completely agree with you.
Also, the reapect, sincere gratitude, and love they have for ARMY is very special.
oh myyyyyy...BLACK SWAN......welcome to BTS rabbit hole Nathan!!!! Borahae 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Stunning. Beautiful. 💜
Yes, yes, yes, PTD LA SO-FI performance was BREATHTAKING! I was there💜
Thanks for your reaction...
Is a risk. Another channel you may want to check for live performances is "Enjoy BTS More" wich has eng subs

The "shadow" is a theme in their music. It's also referenced in the the "On" video you watched.
@@NathanWalters No worries, maybe you can do a lyric breakdown of that one then watch the live version. ☺💜
Loosing the love for something your so passionate about is such a scary thing, they portrayed this so well, through this song and through the video
-A 40 year old Army and boy band junkie since the 80s 😂
People who don’t like their songs should still appreciate their talent and dedication that takes to be so good ❤
And they are better live ! Look at the award show: MAMA 2018 & 2019! It will blow your mind ! Take care !
You are absolutely correct. MIC DROP live in BTS - Yet to Come in Busan is insane!!!!
Every member of BTS are accomplished producers Facts
The lyrics are everything in this one. 💜
You must see MAMA’S 2019 full performance!
RM - Wildflower
Jin - Astronaut
Suga - Amygdala
J-Hope - More
Jimin - you already checked out his video
V - Love Me Again
Jungkook - Seven
Jimin - Serendipity (live performance)
Side note Amygdala has an age rating so be careful about showing it on here I think some have had warnings about it
Yes… I forget about that. You may want to do it and decide whether you think it would be okay to post. It is a great song. You can check out Haegeum. Sorry that I forgot about the age warning.
"Mic Drop" next. Please. The Steve Aoki version. It shows their diversity of genres from a contemporary kind of style to hip hop.
Black swan is a heartbreaking song with a trap beat. Most people miss the point but this song should have won a grammy. It’s beautiful.
Blood Sweat and Tears including the explanation video is a must to see.
PARK JIMIN OMG
I am 75 yo ARMY. Listen to Outro Tear and Cyphers. I never liked rap but these rappers totally hooked me. Talk about performance!
Black Swan is so beautiful. Every version of it is exactly right. Live, orchestral, art film, all of it. Love this song so much.
Oh and as for their Korean delivery - I'm very very far from fluent but I've been studying it and it's a lot easier to hear the rhymes now. The lyrics flow much better than the translations 😂
There's a shooting sketch for this music video that's great and another behind the scenes of just Jimin recording that dance solo.
What?!? I would love to watch that one!
@@NathanWaltersYes! You can find the orchestral version on their video called Black Swan Art Film. THAT was actually how they introduced this song to the world -- it was released before the MV track was!
And yes, it's performed by MN Dance Company. That's the official vid.
I'd absolutely love if you explore lyrics. I love your occasional boyband perspective comments with frequent producer/production comments.
really cool to hear your producer feeback
This song and its lyrics made me realize that I needed to quit my job of almost 13 years and start over. Happier than ever, now.
😘💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🫰🏻
Yeah absolutely as an army everything bts has done im so greatfuk for their hardwork i'm so proud of our bangtan boys❤❤❤❤
Every BTS video has a behind the scenes making of video, too. And this was really fun to watch behind the scenes. V starts singing opera, lol.
BTS is what's formulated when Big Hit placed 7 musical geniuses together in
one group, and the world hasn't been the same.
The stage performance for this is so fantastic, it’s hard to describe. 😌💜

And he watches everything, like everything. Interviews, Suchwita, lives, dance practice, compilations, Run BTS, Rise of Bangtan, AHL, etc.
I always come across some new BTS content I haven't seen before on his channel
Another very genuine thing about Loui is that he keeps everything on Patreon free of charge, donating is entirely optional. He posts the vids that get blocked on YT there. So definitely a very sincere genuine reactor. The type of reactor who is worthy of support
@@janetuss6496 I know him already though my preference is Jurnalist.
This song is what got me into BTS. I am not into KPop but I am into BTS. They are great artists not just performers.
This live performance in the concert is amazing🔥🔥
BTS son arte puro cada canción que producen x ellos mismos tienen un mensaje hermoso...los amamos mucho ❤️💜 JIMIN es mí bia!!!
You should really see it preformed live, ARMY calls Black Swan a masterpiece because it's so beautifully done
Jimin is a classically trained contemporary dancer.
It's crazy.
This will always be the best bts song ever. Imo 💜💜💜 they are amazing live. Best concert ive ever been to and ever will.
RM raps (translated into English):
I been always afraid of if this can no longer resonate
No longer make my heart vibrate
Then like this may be how I die my first death
The thought that one day their art will make them feel nothing is a terrifying one.
Jin’s Epiphany and Fake Love 💕. I remember your band
I’m glad that you noticed the details that BTS puts into their songs, MV, and lyrics. The song talks about being burned out in the industry and their craft 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
This song is a work of art.
Suga is mostly the songwriter and producer. He won awards for that.
This song always makes me feel some type of way. Feeling melancholy and reflective .
Seeing them perform this live was one of the highlights of my 65 years on this earth.
The platinum records/awards are 700+ and cover a HUGE wall. Todays count is larger as taylors vid is two years old I believe and they’ve won more. And ARMY (their fan base) are VERY aware of the hard work they have done, and the artistry involved.
I really enjoy your perspective as a former boyband member! Your commentary is so great
One of my favorites songs (you'll see that it's impossible to choose ONE favorite or even the TEN ones)...
(And they are three songs I recommend you to watch)
Black Swan talks about the fear they have to lose their love for what they do. Our shadow can make us suffering, but at the same time is the fuel for our artistry. We need to control it in order not to be swallowed by it.
