Apologizes for my ignorance//Australian here.......but why is it called OPENING DAY??? Can't you surf The Wedge at certain times of the year? Are you banned from surfing there?

All good man, wedge only breaks from spring to fall, so essentially this is just the first swell of the season.

@@tonyallen8626yes you can surf it year round however, there’s a black ball (no floatation devices between the hours of 10 am to 5 pm) from May 1st to October 31st. This is the first early significant SSW swell in a decade according to Surfline for the coast of Southern California (Kind of a big deal).
