You can use baking soda as an organic weed killer after you've watered the cracks on the street. Just sweep baking soda into the cracks and it should prevent weeds and other plants from sprouting for 4 to 6 weeks, providing there is sufficient soda to outlast any rain. Making a paste of apple cider vinegar and baking soda is an even more powerful solution to your weed problems. Mix two parts baking soda to one part vinegar to make a paste and, after the foaming stops, put in the cracks. Organic and powerful!

It is a great to talk about different methods of how to break up garden maintenance and tips to make gardening more manageable. I use two mats to weed. I put the second one beside me then just move my knees over on it without having to get up each time I need to move over. I the put the one I was on to move again. I also found a large firm kneeling pad at a tool store called Harbor Freight. I have gravel walkways so the soft ones I can feel the rocks through them. The road looks so much better now. I hope you have a wonderful day.

Good morning. What a street that looks much better then having weeds. I feel that most people feel that the street belongs to the city so there for they should not look after them. However I would do what you do and that is if this were caused by my garden then I will look after the weeds like you did. Job well done. What an amazing gardener. I like how all your gardens are looking like. Awesome. Have a wonderful day

I think your plan is a good way to make sure all of the tasks in the garden get done!!! Otherwise, it can be overwhelming. I think I would be taking dips in the pool in-between your weeding tasks!! Or maybe not, as I would never want to get out.....I would save the swim for when the daily tasks are done!! 😀😀😀

I think that is a great breakdown for gardening instead of killing yourself trying to complete everything at once. Once I have my front garden completed I will follow a schedule similar to yours. I have like 3 sections to work on but a little at a time. Also I like that tool that you have for weeds, I may need that and some thing a bit bigger for the ones in the garden. Thanks for sharing, very helpful.

Huge difference, your neighbors must love you, only there a few yrs and look at the place. Next Wednesday, try pouring vinegar down those cracks, it should eventually cause those weeds to die or give up. They say to make a mix with dish soap, as that's to hold it in place better, but I just go straight vinegar in the crack. Hope you guys have a nice hump day.

Hi Janey! You are such a hard worker and very thorough! I just spent a while pulling every single piece of weeds (goat heads 😡) from my front garden. At one time it was an expansion of our driveway. I have medium size rocks around my big raised beds now, but it used to be a mess of weeds. Each year it’s getting better! I like your yard maintenance schedule. I feel like you are a step ahead of me. I have been thinking about implementing a schedule for my yard. Like your schedules it is simple enough not to over whelm you, like some. You are right there is not a lot of YT for beginning out there, I have to Thank You for doing one. We have a Love Dove between our house and rain trough by the front porch and we call her baby Love-eves. We had so much rain in one day and now the heat which helps dry out the water so we can cut the grass if the mower will go though it. I have a tool I got from Hearth and Plow for cracks, it is a slim blade, that fits right in the crack and you pull it along and the weeds are out and then I go back with vinegar no salt because of the grass on the sides. Love you YT's

Hi Janey! Ugh I have the same issue with weeds in cracks. I hate using chemicals so I use the weed tool also after soaking with water. Not the most fun but very rewarding when it's all done! I think I'm gonna use cheap white vinegar/salt and a couple drops of dish soap on some of the weeds and see how that works for maintenance. Your yard is gorgeous and I really enjoy your videos and you look adorable in your hat 😊

Allison, I recently used the white vinegar, salt mixture on weeds and it worked. Some hardcores took a couple of doses, but overall the results are there. It helps if no rain is forecast for a few days after application. Alysen.

I just sprayed my mother’s paver patio with 1 gallon white vinegar half a cup of Epsom salt third of a cup of Dawn dish soap everything was dead by the morning. She had some pretty tough resume there and I started pulling them by hand but gave up lol. I did soak them pretty good to get down in the crack where the roots were we’ll see if anything tries to come back.

Love your alyssum "weeds"! 😆 At least they smell good!
I got a Hori knife this past Christmas and that has helped immensely with the more established weeds as well. Not sure how well it would work in the street weeds.
Another YTer, Linda Vater, uses boiled water from a kettle to help with killing weeds. Not sure that would be practical with your situation, that would be a lot of boiled water. Maybe it might make your work easier? 🤷🏻‍♀️
An area that I still feel so deficient in is ID'ing pests and diseases. I don't really want to use chemicals (natural or other) if it's not really necessary, so often times I feel crippled and don't do anything. Many people suggest spraying the plant with a jet of water. But I often don't find that does much. We are hot, often humid, and have hard water, so sometimes it creates other issues for me. Maybe I'm just going about it wrong. 😆 That would be a lovely class subject to sit in on, but one I know is very locale dependant.

Hi Dawn! I would love a hori knife but I’m kind of nervous about them! 😆 They seem sharp!! That would be a great video idea but I don’t know how much I could help with the humidity since we basically have none! Might be a good basics video though! 💗 Thanks for suggesting the original weed tool! I love it!

After you weed go buy a large box of baking soda. Sprinkle the soda generously on the cracks where the weeds grow. The soda changes the Ph of the soil and the plants won't grow for a time. It's cheap, so you can afford to do it every month or so, which is about how long it lasts.

You should do a post and ask about your most outrageous mis-labeling. I have no idea what I planted last year. But I’ve got a beautiful pink bell shaped bloom, so not the small blue blooms I thought I would get.

Great video Jannie to talk about all the work in maintaining a garden and keeping your areas beautiful! Just curious, when do you schedule garden bed cleanup (deadheading, pruning, etc.)? Does this fall on your Weeding Wednesday or do you select a separate time for it? Thanks!

    • @DigPlantWaterRepeat
      @DigPlantWaterRepeat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Vernelle! I make a separate time for that kind of stuff since for my small garden it’s not really a weekly chore. I’ll do the garden maintenance every week then after will go focus on a certain area of the garden! At least that is how it’s been working for me so far! 💗

I also am a corner house and did this a month ago. Thank goodness for weeding tools. Boy did I get odd looks from neighbors 😅 I do see some returning already… I’m guessing I’ll be out there again in a few weeks. I need to get my routine going. I noticed I had budworm droppings on my petunias Monday. I used the bt I had but I’m almost out and I can’t seem to order it on Amazon anymore. Can I ask which brand you use and where you buy it? Thanks for another wonderful video!
