Something I tried as a substitute for the linen bag insert was using an old T-shirt or fabric color to blend and line the inside. It has worked amazingly. I like the T-shirt because it is stretchy.

A sock should work as well or just 2 to 3 ordanary flat stones with regular fillings.
How do you close up the t-shirt fabric?

I just made one following this video! I used some canvas material, some rice in the bottom, and stuffing for the filler bc I didn't have much rice or any bags lol. I just sewed and sinched up the edges of the canvas material to make the shape. I put a cinnamon apple tea bag in the top bc no cinnamon sticks, and crocheted a curly little brown stem. So def had to adapt to what I had, but it works and it's ADORABLE!! Now all I wanna do is make pumpkins lolol

Just made one with orange yellow and brown yarn, fall leaf colors...and I'm in love ❤ Couldn't find any linen bags in store so I used pantyhose as suggested in the comments and it worked great. Will definitely be making more in different colors! Thank you MJ!

These are the cutest pumpkins. I made your other pumpkins last year but now I can’t wait to make these Granny stitch ones in multiple fall colors. I love the idea of using rice instead of the polyester filling. Great pattern!
working it up right now. Instead of the bags you could buy remanents from Joann's or Hobby Lobby and use that or even fat quarters. If you use a solid yarn perhaps a contrasting color inside the pumpkin that matches. The possibilities are endless!!!! Thanks!

I use ankle socks to put the rice in for the pumpkins

Love this pattern! Thank you… if using long grain rice, you should put in freezer for 2-3 days then completely air dry before using. Eliminates any future tiny bugs.

If you don't have days to freeze it, you can heat the rice up in the microwave until very hot. Let cool, and repeat.

You don't have to use bags,they are a little over the top.
You can also use pantyhose to put the rice N filling in,any colors to match with your pumpkins.

They are beautiful but i would never use rice, since it attatch bugs.
I really enjoyed this tutorial and making the pumpkins. I chose to use aquarium rocks for my pumpkins and they ended up being a little heavy but that being said do you have concern of people picking up the pumpkins by the stem and it will pull out even if you hot glue it?
I'm thinking of doing half poly stuffing and half the other.

The smallest pumpkin needs a 6x7.9” bag. I buy a pack of 100 and use them for various projects ❤

I want to thank you for saying right at the beginning of your tutorial, that you put the stuffing in a bag. I have two small grandchildren, and want to make pumpkins for them. But I didn't want them to be able to pick the stuffing out.
I really suggest that anyone who lives in a very humid climate not put rice in their pumpkins. The rice will eventually gather too much humidity.
