Takes me back to the 60's as a kid in Texas watching Pawnees spraying cotton or sorghum fields. Later on it was Ag Cats, Cessna Agwagons, Rockwell Thrush Commander, on up to Air Tractor 300 series and up to the current turbine equipped that fly nowadays. I worked weekends at my small hometown airport my Senior year in HS but cropdusters had moved out by then but there was one Pawnee parked in the grass I would see. Nice memories.

My dad also worked there.. he was project engineer, and also FAA coordinator for Piper. If any of you people are flying g Pipers. Sentimental Journey Flyin is June18th thru 23rd. at Lock Haven, Pa. All are welcome.. People come from all over the USA to be here. Bring some of those Pawnees back. Would love to see them. A funny story, my dad was building a barn out at our farm. Didn't have the roof on yet, just the beams were up. It was a hot day. Dad noticed a plane flying through the gap at Mill Hall. It wasn't flying very fast..dad saw it was a Pawnee, and said it was probably loaded to spray somewhere. Didnt think anything much about it, as they flew in the Nittany Valley all the time. It kept flying towards our farm. It was someone that knew dad was going to be out there working. The pawnee approached the farm pretty low, and proceeded to dump a load of cold water on dad... It was shockingly cold, but really funny. You had to understand the pranks my dad and his Piper friends played on one another! Anyhow, loved the video on the Pawnee.
I started out in a little Pawnee for a few years and then I sold it in 1987 for a 1983 Cessna Husky with a continental TSIO 520T with 310 hp and that thing was like flying a Corvette compared to the Pawnee. I still own that C-188 today and fly it on my personal Crops. I purchased that plane in 1987 for $27,000 😎
I used to tow gliders using PA-25-235s with fixed pitch propellers. They were stripped of all of the gear except the hopper. One was stock, all fabric covered, stock landing gear. The other one had metal covered Hutchinson wings with a Spring Steel landing gear and rudder horn extensions. That was my favorite one. Very easy to fly airplane, probably the easiest conventional gear plane there is to land.
Thanks for the tour Emily. I am a 30 year A&P, I have only worked with commercial jets but I used to watch one of these run next to a MRO I worked at in Dothan AL. The maneuver that was done at the end of the field to track back in the other direction was impressive, pull up hard, kick the rudder over. I always imagined that there were wet tanks inside that aircraft, not that hopper. I understand you always have it under positive G's but still it seems like it could get messy. That fan driven pump is brilliant, I imagine that spreader creates a lot of drag?
Reminds me of the early 1970's, except ours were dripping with all kinds of nasty chemicals. No power line knives? Nothing like jump starting them with an angry pilot on the throttle and nothing but slippery cutting edges behind and a prop ahead. Rally Racing aircraft to the field, way before Driver Ed., and count rows....... Sure helped avoiding countless idiots on the road.
I’d say you could get one for around $60,000-$85,000, but it all depends. I believe it’s around 3.8+, but not sure on negative. I’d have to check the book for the wing square footage! Hope that helps!

Are you aware that Piper named the Pawnee and the rest of its aircraft line from the Cherokee to the Seminole as its way of honoring the Native American tribes? And having known Emily personally, she is one of the most experienced and skillful pilots you will ever meet. She grew up flying and both her parents, her brothers and husband are pilots.

My dad was a dusting pilot in Indonesia, he flew the pawnee for tobacco pesticides 1962 - 1937, I always remember when I see this plane.

This particular spreader isn’t too bad, believe it or not, but yes, some of the larger ones we have will definitely create a lot of extra drag!

Hi - Obviously the exhausts are modified, what’s the story behind that; looks like it’s had GA200 exhaust stacks on it at some time too..
It’s an STC’d exhaust from a company in Lamar CO called Air Care. Unfortunately they don’t make them any more.
Price to buy? Max +/- G loads, Wing area sq ft. Super sweet..
