      I don’t know if this guy is stupid or tough or both , I definitely respect him for still lifting , my back has been broken for many years with disc degeneration and a 45 degree scoliosis , numbness in the lower extremities and the whole 9 , I would never attempt to do what this guy is continuing to do , but with no specifics on what the surgeon did to repair his spine it’s hard for me to say if his continuation of weight lifting is the smartest thing to do . 99% of the time serious damage to the spine is irreversible . I do believe some sort exercise is important to maintain range of motion but in my opinion as we get older lifting that kinda of weight can cause more damage . So many bodies builders I know have had so much serious injuries when they got older , I would always have to have conversations with these guys about lifting to much weight , it got where it was just one right after another , mostly shoulder and biceps tears , yeah it’s awesome the we can still have the strength to lift so much in our 50s and 60s but it’s just not good at all for the body .

    I can't find the answer of one simpe question: What is the problem to be used in competition adjustable safety pins slightly below the bar path??? The spotters may help with unrack and rerack the bar, but everything else is ridiculous. There is no human that can react fast enough in case of injury, spasm or lost conscious.

    • @BigHalfSteps
      @BigHalfSteps 3 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      It was 6 years ago. Needless to say, safety precautions are a thing that had to be demanded and granted over the years. It is still bad and nowhere near perfect. Julius Maddox attempted a 800lbs (~335kg) bench press and those idiots misplaced one plate on the bar. It was uneven, and could have easily injured him for life. But yeah, safety precautions are a thing you have to demand and not expect to be given by all means of logical standards.

      @BigUriel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      @@CentinalxGaming Powerlifting is still a very amateurish sport, that's the problem. Federations have small budgets or are ran but greedy business types with little regard for safety.
      They don't use safety pins because those bend and they have to buy new ones after the meet. They could use straps, but can't even be bothered to do that, a proper rack for them still costs money to transport around plus people to set it up and adjust for every lifter who know what they're doing. When possible they'll just hold the meet at some local gym and use whatever is available, so they don't have to supply any equipment at all. Half the time they just grab some kids from the local gym or college and pay them 20 bucks to spot at the meet.

      It’s simple, free weights give more results than safer options, when you are on the big leagues they don’t care about being safe, they cheat with insane weights so they can get bigger, Ronnie Coleman is an example, he is on a wheel chair now

    Man hearing this story at some point pride and ego was taking over for you not to take those medications. But I'm glad you're not paralyzed from that bench drop.
    I can say from my experience doing max squat and deadlifts 2x a week, I felt my nervous system shut down, or twitch. That's when I knew it was a good time to eat and just lay tf down to rest and recover. Since then I always listen to what my body feels right before each session lifting weights. As for the spotters, looked like straight unprepared amateurs. Thank you for the videos.

    There’s a reason why there are so many videos of competition benchers getting crushed like this..everything happens so fast and none of the spotters are in mechanically advantageous position to stop these massive amounts of weight from crashing down on the lifter. All they are able to do is pull it off after the tragedy has happened.

  • @diegocastillo5400
    @diegocastillo5400 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    From what I can see it looks like the wrists are the limiting factor in the bench press. His wrists buckle and the weight drops, which makes me think at heavy weights there's a possiblity for the grip to fail, but how would you prevent the grip fail? Wrist wraps? It's not like anyone trains wrist mobility. I don't think that would have changed anything...

    It makes literally no sense why there's not a bar catch on competition bench press setups.
    Even If it has to be set slightly too low it will stop catastrophic accidents like this.

    • @Auxified
      @Auxified ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah it does "make sense". Three spotters are already on site, and cover basically every situation except for a spontaneous bar drop, which is exceedingly rare. The cost of aving to re-adjust the safety pins for every lifter is just not realistic with a lot of lifters to get through. Also look how much of a dumbass this guy had to be in order to have this happen. I'm not saying he deserved it, but the negligence is all on him.

    I messed my neck up really bad from squatting. Personally, it can't be good putting that much weight on your neck like that. It blew out 4 disks in my neck and i had to have them fused. I try talking people into working the legs out without doing squats. They don't want to hear it. I just hope it doesn't happen to them. it just popped and I sat down and started sweating from the pain. Then my left arm started going numb and spasming. C4, 5 6 and C7, right were that dam bar sits.

    I did same thing with 495. I was luck the bar bounced twice of my chest scrapped my forarms. Luckily didn't get injured. Russian power lifter did it with 405 I thiy. Didn't go to the hospital he died 4 hours later ever internal bleeding! I did like three times once like you. Another time I dropped it once I took it off the rack. Third time I don't remember you're lucky guy though.
