The highlight of Shin Godzilla is his unique atomic breath and the despair as we watch society being helplessly destroyed with each attack. It was very inspired by the devastating earthquake that occurred in Japan in 2011, but I think it will also touch the hearts of people who don't know about it. Other interesting things are Japan's unique organizational system represented by the government, the city of Tokyo, its center, Tokyo Station, and the Shinkansen and conventional trains that gather there. These can only be understood by people who have lived in Japan or Tokyo and worked for Japanese companies, and will seem uninteresting to many other people. But I think the creator probably knew that as well. ( Furthermore, Shin Godzilla uses many motifs from the anime ‘Evangelion’, which the director once created, which may not be understood by people who don't know Evangelion.) However, I saw some reaction makers are trying to understand why there are so many boring meeting and office scenes, not gorgeous Godzilla, and take them as something like documentary-like methods, as acceptable direction, and it made me kind of happy, because I think it’s not misunderstanding or lack of understanding.

So far the best Godzilla movie where it is man vs the monster himself is "Godzilla Minus One". I haven't officially seen "Shin Godzilla", only via fan reaction. From what I've seen it looks good. I know this movie won Best Picture in the Japanese Oscar in 2016. There are two other Godzilla movies I recommend you watch. First, I recommend this other man vs Godzilla movie, which is probably considered a sequel to the first Godzilla movie, "Godzilla 1985". Raymond Burr reprized his role in this one. The 2nd Gojira film is "Godzilla vs Biolante" (1990 I think). Although this film focuses more on monsters fighting each other, it still has a good human story unlike the Hollywood monster-verse, i.e. "Kong vs Godzilla" (2021) and "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire". It is worth watching. Many Godzilla fans say this early 90s film is underrated.
