My name is Brandon Herrera. I'm the owner and operator of The AK Guy Inc, a 07 Firearm Manufacturer based out of Fayetteville, NC. I also co-own Stark Media Group, and designed the rifle known as the AK-50.
I've started to dedicate this TH-cam channel above all to have fun, but also as a way to document my entrepreneurial journey for the next few years as I try to grow my companies. Hopefully, people can learn from my example, successes, and failures.
Either way, I'm having a lot of fun with it so far, and I hope it's just as fun to follow along!

I bought an SKS several years ago when they were only $200-300. It's a Norinco that is in really good shape with a TWENTY (yep I typed 20) round internal magazine. I put a B-Square scope mount on it with a UTG Bugbuster scope so that I can still use stripper clips to load it. I replaced the firing pin with a spring loaded one (no more bump fires). I'd sell my dead mother's urn before I'd sell it.

Triggers are real rough off the shelf but that was easily rectified. The one I kept for myself would repeatably shoot under 3", 3 shot groups @75 yards. Not bad for a battle rifle and iron sights. And these are milled receiver guns for what it's worth.

My dad and uncle each got dirt cheap SKSs in the 90s, along with a train load of that steel-core ammo they used to have all over the place. They didn't get used very often compared to the lever guns, but when the SKSs did come out it was usually to put a hole through something that no one else could put a hole through. There's a big thicc pipe out by a reservoir they used to camp by, and for the longest time there were only 2 holes in the pipe (one from the SKS round going in, one from it coming out sideways). Now that the standard artillery is no longer the .30-30, there are a lot more holes in that thing, but for a good few years that keyhole steel-core penetration looked very impressive.

My grandpa bought a Norinco SKS “sporter” when he was in the service. With an aftermarket “look-under” scope mount, I gotta say it’s my favorite hunting rifle.
The only bad thing I can really say about it is it just will not cycle steel case ammo. She may be cheap, but she still has standards.
Meanwhile my RAK-47 made in NC cycles steel case no questions asked.
I can shoot a lot farther away with the SKS, but my AK shoots trash and makes it perform like treasure.

I’ll never forget the first time I cleaned it. I fully disassembled it, I didn’t just field-strip it. It has it’s own cleaning kit in the rear of the stock, but we couldn’t find its rod… I made due with a couple borrowed rods from a .38 cleaning kit. My AK rod was either too short or too stubborn to get off the rifle, I can’t remember. Lol
There was still this wax in the stock from where they packaged it for shipping.

People who are right leaning would get the guns that the already had because they haven't had them taken away yet, and attempt to overthrow the government. Honestly some of us are a little bit afraid if the right.

It's all up to preference but honestly for what it is, the SKS is quite an effective rifle so you definitely get your bang for you buck when you buy one. Very accurate, grip feels nice against your shoulder, reliable, and not difficult to disassemble. You also get that nice feeling of an older rifle if you're into that. Can easily hit a target at 100 yards with iron sights. If you want something more combat effective, there's plenty of other guns more suited for that but I would pick this rifle over a lot of others anyday.

And concerning the steel back then , it was in the 1950's not the middle ages and their steel was good but feel free to provide evidence it was not . The fact that the tri bladed bayonets did not break as easy was less about the steel and the fact it was circular and thicker than the bladed versions and if you had handled both you would see the difference . SKS is actually a decent .30 caliber cheap military surplus firearm. These came new with a chrome lined barrel and back in the 80's these were being imported brand new still in the box with the folding bayonet and oiling/cleaning kit and military sling and could be bought for like $89.
Also at the time you could buy the imported steel cased corrosive military 7.62x39 ammo for like $1.50 for a 20 round box.
I bought one just because they were so cheap and shooting it at 100 yds it was really accurate.
I was really impressed overall how good such a cheap firearm was. And unlike many other foreign military rifle calibers here in the U.S. the ammunition is easy to find about anywhere.
