    Good information. I'm going to try this Russell. Really enjoyed the fishing seminar in Manistee last Saturday. Can't wait to apply what I learned.

  • @ngeleta1
    @ngeleta1 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see you are using the ring to attach the OR39. It comes with a nut also. Why use one or the other?

      I've seen others who put the OR16 where the Sams is and any release you want on the end, since the first force that board is going to feel is from the end where the OR16 is on this video. The board still reels in fine where it is attached at the center point with an OR16 holding the line.

    • @joeszymanski6936
      @joeszymanski6936 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@swickman7622 yes I was thinking the same thing. It should release on the rear clip. After watching this a couple times I see now that the board will just float along as the fish is reeled in. If you release from the back the board may have a tendency to spin in the water making it more difficult to fight the fish or possibly losing the fish. I still use big boards and am contemplating getting a couple inlines for a small boat.

    Hello thanks for the video will these work with the church boards I don’t mind if the board slides down the line because I use keel weights so it will stop well before the fish, Thank you

    • @RussellsFishingTech

    • @gilb5710
      @gilb5710 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought the fish pulls from the other end not the rod end. Unless you are trolling in reverse! Try pulling that line from the bait end and see what happens.

      Greg Gilbert the fish does pull from the other end I am really confused. Do you have a question here?

    • @DeeDee-vu5mi
      @DeeDee-vu5mi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No question there. The fish pulls from the back, not from rod tip. Your pulling from rod tip which does not simulate a fish pulling on the line

  • @mylspen

    Better yet rid if that OR16 and put a short leader in place of it. Clip it over the line. You will never loose it. When front releases the planer board will slide down to the fish as you reel it in. No unclipping the board as you reel it in.. Net the whole thing at once. Works great, use it all thr time.

    • @swickman7622
      @swickman7622 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @bryburns31 Not going to happen if you have a leader tied up to a swivel, that board will stop 2-4 ft from your fish.....And why call people names, not cool dude, everyone has different ways of doing things....

    • @DeeDee-vu5mi
      @DeeDee-vu5mi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats what I thought, get rid of the OR16. Slide a glass bead on the line then tie on a barrel swivel, then attach whatever lenght leader you want. board slides to bead ....end of story. And name calling is uncalled for.

  • @Moondog9322
    @Moondog9322 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I fish mostly Lake Erie. Do you ever attach the release directly to the bracket instead of using the split ring? I'm anxious to use the SPR this year. Plus, in my limited experience with them, at least for me, it was easier to attach the OR16 first. Is there a right or wrong way? Thanks. I enjoy your videos.

    Good idea but won’t the board slide down to the lure? I’ve lost a lot of fish from reeling and the board slapping the fish in the face

    • @RussellsFishingTech

      If your worried sliding down to the fish put a large bead on the line then a barrel swivel, then tie on a leader to attach your bait/lure

    Couldn’t you just put the release at the back and use one rod to hold the planer board and another rod to the release clip at the back of the board. That way when a fish hits, you are completely free of the board

  • @BBBYpsi
    @BBBYpsi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ndpuckhead

      The OR16 has a pin in the center of the pad. As long as you put the line behind the pin, it won't come off. It stays in place on the line and wont slide down to the fish.

    • @timh8257
      @timh8257 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ndpuckhead The OR-16 will come off anytime and almost every-time the board submarines while reeling it in. Better go with a leader or a snap-swivel instead of the OR-16 or you will be fetching boards.
