"The Basketball Show" was a pre-game show broadcast LIVE on CBS during it's final year in the 1989-90 NBA season.. Later the NBA moved to NBC and become known as the "NBA Showtime" as a successor of "The Basketball Show"...
The studio set was of course a slight redress of the CBS NFL Today set, which itself had been in use since 1981, and for a while, also doubled as the CBS Morning News set. The set was modified various times over the years and was retired a few months later and replaced with an entirely new set for the 1990 NFL Season.
And, on a different note, but similar, The Prudential College Football Report in the 80s on CBS (when Jim Nantz was there on said studio show; that's where he got his start) has far outpaced Pizza Hut Halftime, the GEICO Halftime Report, and other similarly named and sponsored "Halftime Reports" of today.
