I remember as a kid when the gentleman from the Buick dealership would come to pick up our neighbors 63 Buick Riviera. He would show up on the HD trike and hooked it up to the car bumper then drive away towing the trike. We kids would watch with interest and he was always very cool letting us watch up close and talking with us. Be cool with the curious kids because you may be making long term memories. FYI, after WW2 when my dad got out of the army one of the first things he did was buy a Harley.
Matt, While on vacation in Gatlinburg we went over to Maggi Valley to get some Arkensaw black apples. We just stumbled into your museum and spent the day there after an hour at the snake zoo. You wer out riding around in your Dusenberg when we arrived so we met your father. This was the year after you rode coast to coast on a Henderson bike. The memorable thing about the Henderson is how QUIET it was. Your dad told us about most of the museum bikes had gas and were rideable which somehow seemed surprising at the time. After you got back you let us start up two bikes inside the museum. We also saw the Harley Davidson car . There were about 6 cars in the museum and everything else was bikes with a lot of flat track dirt bikes, military bikes and 3 wheelers including an Indian waiting restoration. thanks for a memorable day' george and aurora
My deceased brother took his 1951 flathead to the 80th anniversary(1983) in Milwaukee, a 4 hour drive. He met an executive in the parking lot and was given a personal tour then was offered a job. The bike had an orange paint that was matched to original paint on the original tank that he discovered at a Chicago bike show at McCormick Place. He said it rode at about 60 mph max. Suicide clutch, side shifter, 3 speed, complete rebuild from a basket. It still runs!. RIP, Jerry. 4/6/93.
My Bike is currently down for maintenance and some painting. So I am jonesing for anything Bike. You guys always hit the mark on History. History just kept floating you around. So glad you're on here now.
Love those old Harley's! Mine is not nearly that old (1974) but being an ironhead it has the manners of an old timer for sure. Being a 1200 now running Andrews V9 cams with some headwork it has a pretty good kick also.

My dad and his buddies built and road Harleys and Indians. Ride my dads rigid almost daily. Best therapy and my quiet time alone. Lol. For me The best sound of a harley comes when #1. the motor is at idle #2 standing on the edge of a highway as the bike is coming down the ramp 1st 2nd 3rd hoping that music never goes away...#3 mounted on the seat headed for party, the freedom of living all of it...blessings...m
Not a big Harley guy more a Supermoto Dirtbike guy,but I'd love to own an old XR750 flat tracker. I really think that is a cool old bike,love seeing these old bikes specially the old sport bikes.
@@needmetal3221 I have an 88 stroker shovel...do you know a mathematical equation that might help? Stock 73 bore with 4 3/4" Stroke. Currently the the andrews cam is a bb grind. I have ckearance foe a #6 if I so choose....S&S carb...heads are '81...delkron shovel case, S&S wheels/rods and jugs with 9to1 slipper skirt pistons. Any of this info help?
@@SigurdtheRyder no mathematical equation I know of. If you're running straights the length is important. Idk for shovels. Sportsters used to like 26 inches from what I recall. Once you stroke the whole thing changes
@@needmetal3221 I used to tune pipes using a slider with talcum powder to watch the frequency nodes...find the spot, tac in place then bend/cut the new pipe at the proper length...sometimes the pile lengths do not match! I dont know why but it seems to work...
40 years ago I saw diagrams for a shovelhead from the factory racing dept. They had destroked it to 1100cc and filled and reshaped the ports. Interesting stuff
I think if you put a couple reed valves on the crank case vents so the pistons act like a vacuum pump after they pressed the air out so all you’re dealing with is back pressure from the reed valves and use the FMF 450 cc dirt bike power bomb style exhaust expansion enhancements maybe drop a tooth somewhere in the drivetrain/ presuming your dad was no hp but rpm limited and I think it’ll do the ton as they say.
With no shifting gate and no rachet top transmission setup what prevents a rider from sliding past 2nd and into 3rd gear whens he's trying to shift as fast as possible?
That's not from ethanol. That's from water in your junk gas from junk underground tanks. Switch stations. Ethanol sequesters water so it can be carried out of the system instead of settling.
