  • Principal Bob introduces the ID.4 S and talks about why you may not need a big battery car while still meeting your driving needs. The ID.4 S is absolutely the best value for your buck and still gets 220 miles of range. Please consider buying a smaller battery car for your first EV and get all the benefits of an electric car without breaking the bank. If I only had snow arrive a few times a year or less, this car would be my choice. It is efficient and comfortable as well as fast enough to get me all the tickets I could want.

You are 100% on the money. I did the same calculation when I was pre-ordering last year. If only VW had delivered my ID.4 S at the original timeline (December 2022). Give or take a few weeks
Unfortunately my ICE vehicle crapped out in late November and I started hustling to get an EV and meet the eligiblity for the tax credits in 2022 given the uncertainty going into 2023. I settled on the AWD ID.4 which was the ONLY available model at the time.
I still think about the extra 10k spent on the AWD model (but no regrets)
I am in the Northeast and was prepared to buy winter tires

We have a 2021 ID4 Pro "S" w/Gradient. We checked every box except AWD and absolutely love it. Well, we did. It's been sitting bricked at a VW dealership after a failed software update and has been there for 3 weeks with no ETA in sight. Thankfully it's our second car and our Tesla Model 3 has been reliable. Hoping VW turns some things around. Great video...

Totally agree on smaller pack size. VW’s EA needs to massively improve reliability to provide confidence on long trips, which I agree are rare.

It would be nice if that roof opened like on the wagon. But i understand that's heavy and expensive

Charging speed (power) is measured in kW. Battery capacity is measured in kWh.

Bob, you are right on the money! I think the hyper focus on range and speed is really off the mark for the majority of EV owners. As you say, most of our driving is local. Why carry around all that extra battery weight (and natural resource) for the few times a year you may need an extra 50-75 miles of range? If your EV is your only car, those occasional longer trips just need extra planning, which can actually be fun, especially for a retired math teacher like me. Regarding speed . . . when's the last time you heard someone trying to decide between a RAV4, CRV, or Tiguan based on their 0-60 times? That’s ridiculous! Anyone who has been in an EV knows that nearly all of them feel like a rocket ship when you press on the accelerator. Our 2022 ID.4 Pro S RWD is the best EV we’ve ever owned and we’ve had four over the last six years. I ordered it in June of 2021. It arrived in August of ’22 and we have not had a single problem. Love the car! Keep up the good work!

Does that S have a heat pump?

Unfortunately the ID.4s with free DCFC, regardless of pack size, hog EA chargers. VW needs to stop this lunacy.

Bob, what’s going on with the tax credit? The ID. 4 was not on the most recent list.
