Which GS hv the worst crowd?😞
All of the grand slam crowds can be pretty bad, but the worst is the one at the US open. Never forget how they booed during 2018 trophy ceremony
French crowd is the worst
I would say definitely French open
US crowd will turn on you. I remember watching Dimitrov last year and the crowd got up and left from one of the outer courts when he went down two sets.
French Open crowd will boo you for even glancing at a mark.
Mladenovic is nasty. Encouraging the crowd when Mugu makes an error. That crowd was disgusting.
We were watching the Sonego - Shapovalov match and my french partner was saying the crowd in Paris doesn’t do that 😂😂 I was like you’ve seen nothing my friend

There is a difference between cheering on your home athlete and the crowed roaring on your unforced errors. Glad Serena won. Karma got Kiki at the end. She was encouraging the crowd to continue. Look at Kiki now. Girl can’t even get out of qualies.
It was the only way she could win this match. Her tennis level could never come close to Muguruza's

Chakvetadze was amazing! The crowd was yelling as she was hitting, but she kept making great shots and shouting right at them about it. Really cool.

Good concept again. So glad Serena and Anna Chaktzde won their respective matches against such hostile crowd. Had never seen Anna so determined. Regarding Muruguza-Mladenovic, what a shame, esp how Kiki was egging crowd to distract Muru further..she looked so cruel at 4:59...used to like her earlier but glad karma got to her...this match proved she has no ethics. Muru went on to win Wimbledon shortly after this, good for her.
Fed Cup in Israel was ICONIC. Russian players against crowd. Loved when they won honestly.
Unfortunately it didn’t happen against the russians only. The Israeli crowd was once making some disgusting comments about Aga Radwanska and Polish players during the match. There are apes everywhere.

I remember some years back John Isner and Monfils played a night match in NY and the crowd totally went wild for the Frenchman, with his electric style of play. It got really crazy to the point where you could tell John was upset and the commentators spoke on it. In my opinion, nothing will top that Indian Wells crowd that turned on Serena! Her home state in her home country!
serena vs watson was soooo embarrassing, heather didn't hit a single winner and the crowd was cheering like every error was on match point, so traumatic to be a british serena fan that day

Russia's Chakvetadze's way of handling the crowd showed *STRENGTH* .. should would not be overpowered by a bunch of cheats who think they can make they athlete win by screaming insults just when Chakvetadze is about to hit shots. This is not what tennis is about. It's disgusting.
I have heard British people who follow tennis claim that Wimbledon is the calm and respectful Slam. I think the Williams vs Watson match disproves this notion.

Yes, that one was by far the worst.
Hingis was a cocky, unlikable brat back in the 90s who reveled in gloating about her GS wins. She made it easy for the RO crowd to get behind a veteran Graf. That defeat changed everything for Hingis. She never won another GS in singles and transitioned to doubles in the 00s when the field became too deep with top talent. Still a talented player of note.
Those Russia vs Israel matches were so iconic! Chakvetadze here and Sharapova and Martina at French are superheroes..

A couple of potential additions I have not seen mentioned:
-also Fed Cup: Johanna Konta taking a time-out in tears vs. taunts from Ilie Nastase in Romania.
-this is a different flavour: back when Djokovic had only won one AO, there was more violence outside the stadium during his match against Bosnian-born Amer Delic (I know this is a WTA channel, but one girl was knocked unconscious).
The Russia one was kinda funny because she was annoying the crowd on purpose
The crowd was already horrible up to that point in the match and throughout other matches. I believe this was the clinching match and she was letting the crowd soak it all in. Funny thing is I think she played even better the more the crowd got on her.

Israeli crowd during davis cup was behaving like this almost every time. Ask Radwanska, Romanian players. They called them names. They are just terrible fans full of hatred.

Israeli crowd is always a problem, not sure why they behave like that. There was exactly the same situation when Polish Fed Cup played in Israel, the crowd behaved very badly and disrespectful.
My theory is, tennis just isn't very well known there, and as a result they don't know tennis etiquette. Most of them show up to support their country, looking to create a football game atmosphere, and they think its okay to act like football fans in a tennis match.

French open is consistently the worst. us Aussie’s and the US crowd can also be brutal. But that 3R match for Serena is the most awful crowd I have ever seen. They were beyond disrespectful
Wimbledon tends to have the most respectful and polite GS crowd. So when they make 'some' Sharapova-esque noise, this hurts way more than in other tourneys.

I agree to some extent but I think that the new generation being so exposed to the constant pressure of social media make them all the more vulnerable to the crowd.

neh, beating serena is a huge thing. If you're able to even contest a player that holds W-L records like 78-4 . you're a good player. Beating Serena is always toughest. Nobody else has the ability to shift multiple gears and raise multiple levels of their game during matches. You're just underappreciating her goatness . Simple.

I didn’t like the behaviour of the crowd at the Wimbledon 2015 in the match Sharapova - Coco, especially, when the second one was clapping and the crowd was supporting her. It was like Sharapova vs everyone at the stadium
all countries, that do not have great tennisplayers (at that moment) but do have the big tournaments, will rout for their homegrown with extreme passion. the english do it, the french do it, even the americans do it.

Henin VS Serena at RG 2003 (I think) was disgusting as well. Applauding her double faults, booing her on her way out. She even cried at the press conference afterwards. Henin behaved poorly that day as well in terms of sportsmanship. Paris' crowd in general is a disrespectful one, makes me fume. I am French by the way...
