    Anyone who says academics don't help in being a good product manager, run away.
    I have studied from Lallu Panju University (shorten it) and often we get less oackage then IITians and NITians. Product Management requires a lot of people management skills but unless you are academically sound, you will help make shit products.
    Eg some PM says to its development team. Make this query where I inout X and get Y and developers do that for you. You test it out and are happy. Delivery done.
    A good product manager will discuss with engineering team, understand the algorithm and ask to optimise it of they feel too many loops are witten. But to understand this you need basic understanding of data structures and algorithms which your fucking classroom teaches you at you college.
    Similar cases arise in business model models, decisions trees, cost imoact analysis and what not. Unfortunately, people don't just PMs in India based on knowledge but based on where you studied( not what you studied) and once you are in a good comoany you keep rotating in good companies all you life and make podcasts and what not which is nothing relevant.

      Lol nope depends....u clearly don't know a lot about product managers , is their is only a product manager then their is likely a senior dev as well who won't pass PR unless code is optimised.... then their is QA team as well who again won't pass it , sure having tech knowledge is important but then a pm's knowledge is V shaped with one core focus.... for those who have it focused on tech , they r called technical Product managers....but then their r growth ones as well

    • @nishantthaccker1173
      @nishantthaccker1173 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes that first break in a good company is very very vital !! Cause as you said then later on people keep rotating whereas it's very tough for outsiders (who maybe 5 times better) but not from one of the major companies!!...

    • @erabhikdasgupta
      @erabhikdasgupta 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ishanharshvardhan6687 PMs come in various flavours. I gave an example of tech because I am a Tech PM, a growth PM will give an example of how scale customers.
      Often engineering teams will have clases. In the abive example I did not want to elaborate on problem statement where cloud coat is increasing to support the code written by programming team. The QA will be passes and so will be be UAT, but as you scale you will face new challenges and no negotiations neesa to happen. That is where PMs come into play because you need a negotiator. Everyone wants to have better performance with less effort.
      And No, you don't need to be in some great companies. Talk in the current company you are in and try ti take the additional responsibility if not they strictly give you to work on thia responsibility. Its easier to rectify fuckups in smaller companies and even learn faster. And always be a learner be it from legal, or merchandising or ETL or privacy and security. Just keep learnjng.

    • @MubashirAR
      @MubashirAR 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Lol in many companies Product Managers know nothing about the codebase. Heck many of them come from a business background and don't even know much about programming.
      The typical responsibility of a PM is to talk to customers, business and tech among other potential stakeholders and find out the pain points of users, what features they need, what the competitors are doing etc. If they sit and critique engineers on how many loops were added in the code then they won't have time for the other responsibilities. 😅
      I don't know which companies are testing PMs on DSA, but that's a responsibility of the dev team, and the dev team should be capable for reviewing the PRs and such
      PS. You could be mixing Project manager with product manager, but even then most Project Managers also would likely not review code

    Shit I did back when I was in college was matching my tution fees with salary, u cannot calculate roi on education. Don't go for salary just go for anything u like,otherwise 10 years from now u would be a highly paid depressed person who hates his job and his life every day of his life. Trust me 90 percent of 35 plus year olds hate thr job. Because they went for salary and package when they needed to choose a career rather than what their passion was.

      To be honest, PM role is/was never supposed for freshers. It's for experienced people, who have spent atleast around 5-6 years in IT, specially product based companies. And they must have spent time developing product -- that means literally working on the product (tech, architecture), with dev & testing team, stakeholders, design team
