I think there was one unfortunate thing I realized. In the previous day, Lori was one of the people Tree tried to reconcile with. If you follow the day carefully, and if I remember it carefully, Lori never tried to have her eat the cupcake, tree just remembered it when she and Carter went to the room that night, and I think Tombs was never masked, so I feel like Lori abandoned the whole plan that day, and it wouldn't have come to this if she didn't die in her sleep. But at the same time, I guess Lori could have throw it out after Tree left for the day. I don't know, just some thoughts that cross my mind.

Even though Lori gave her a poisoned cupcake, Tree didn’t have to be so mean by throwing it in the garbage. Lori saw her as a mean b**** and was jealous of her. Even though Tree was kind enough to apologized to Lori in that timeline. At least Tree had the opportunity to change herself during thats timeline, but it didn’t help convince Lori to spare her life.
That is NOT a real reason. Being “mean” to somebody and sleeping with somebody that they had a crush on does not justify murder. And Tree was nice to her in the timeline before that when she apologized for not being a good roommate, but she still give her the cupcake anyway, because she ended up eating it at that timeline

Still, it's bad, since Tree's DNA would be all over it making her look like the culprit (since she shoved a poisoned cake on her and THEN killed her). Reconstructing the evidence isn't hard. What's hard is the police seeing Tree as the innocent party. Tree used excessive violence. If she had just run away and called the police after poisoning her roommate, she'd have an easier time claiming self defense. Someone did hear Tree's screams after all, so she had a witness to back up her claim.
Well, there multiple signs of fight which ended on the death of the one who say to a witness that NOTHING IS HAPPENING. With that and Tree's story it would be clear.

Normally, I'd hate such a petty motivation, but given that the movie is a horror comedy and trying to parody how little personality some of the girl victims in movies have, it's kinda fitting. Tree goes through a whole arc of being a shallow terrible 'first victim' who exists to be killed in a slasher flick to seeing how awful she is and changing for the better while her roommate/killer is revealed to be a petty brat who kills someone over nothing. Given that the killers in most horror films are usually the most interesting part of the movie, or at least the most fun to watch, it's fitting that the parody of that is so shallow. This movie is weirdly fun.
Still though, avatar came out in 2012 and they created a whole realistic world when a 2017 movie can't even create realistic blood. It throws the whole mood a scenery off when you see something like that. It looks like they ran out of money at the end.

I love this movie. Quite a surprising plot twist that it was her roommate trying to kill her
When Lori puts her hands over Tree's mouth, while Tree sees the cupcake, her hands are on Lori's wrist, but when it cuts to Lori's face, Tree's hands are on Lori's chest
I was kind of surprised did not start choking her when's pin down on the bed and got on top of her
The fact that Lori kissed the mask shows exactly how dangerous she really is
