I really like seeing the one day landscaping jobs. One of your older landscape jobs is how I found your channel!! Thanks for doing this and letting us watch!!
I really enjoyed this video and am looking forward to seeing what you do with the other spaces. I like that you talk about the challenges you have to address (water and soil conditions), why you chose the plants, and what effect they will have once mature (screening, etc).
Those are exactly the reasons why i enjoy Jim's content. He provides lots of explanation and all of the whys and hows of everything that he plants. Looking forward to seeing the other spaces also. The homeowners must be thrilled.
Love your channel! This newbie has been stuck for over a year trying to plan my flowerbed. I finally have a plan after watching multiple videos from your channel.
This was fantastic! The real-world application of skills is incredibly helpful to learn from. What a cute home, with such diverse and interesting landscape opportunities, but enough "troubleshooting" to force you to be creative. Thanks for the authentic post-gardening look, too - it's dirty, exhausting work but you can't beat the satisfaction. Just don't forget your hat!
Looking forward to this whole series of videos! These are exactly the kinds of projects I need to do in my garden, so I find these videos very helpful! And always appreciate the knowledge and expertise you share with us, Jim!
My 7 year old great niece helps me in my flower beds, I have to have a plant or seeds ready to plant everytime she comes over lol she kicks my butt doing yard work.
I always look forward to learning from your videos! You do nice work! Glad you kept it real with not cleaning up after working! You should see me when I am done working in my yard!
Nice property, looking forward to the rest of the videos! My favorite space was the patio in back giving the illusion of country and woodlands because that's what I love. Lots of good ideas for my next down-sized home and lot if I can ever find it! Project took you two hours and would probably take me 2 days now but there was a time I could have done it in 3-4 hours. 😁👍💖
Hey, you look like we do... sweaty and dirty! Thanks for keeping it real - in landscape choices and for choosing a smaller size lot . I've learned so much from your videos - and entertaining too. Thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge. Looking forward to the other rehab projects at this same property.
Great job Jim! I love the selection of hardy plants and design elements. Thanks for the transparency in showing the not so glamorous after look😅 Looking forward to the other installs.
I like that you use the brown pots! Wow that white wedding looks healthy . I planted some early summer. They dont look as nice. Hoping they do better next year
This is 500% what I need for my front and back yard. Though I really just want someone to walk through with me, help id some unknown plants and then ideas for what to do to make the yard pop again.. I keep getting told that this house and yard used to be amazing and very well kept. But I have very limited to little knowledge in gardening.
Thank you so much for this video! This is giving me a lot of ideas and inspiration for my own landscape that I'm working on! Can't wait to see the rest of the job!!
Hi again Jim, happy fall y'all from Texas! Great idea for a series of videos, look forward to watching these areas transform & seeing the plants grow mature over time. Like other viewers stated already, love your detailed & through explanations of different aspects of the projects, how & why every step of the way. Liked your choice of background music you used too! 🙂
Another great video! I'm always learning something new. QUESTION: Can you talk a bit about irrigation issues on these one-day landscape jobs? Did you have to make any additions or adjustments to water?
Just starting a renovation of my 15 year old landscaping and have some of the same challenges of screening, terraces, and dry shade. Very interested to see how and what you'll be using. Enjoyed the work and results so far!
Great job Jim!! Excellent plant choices and placement, as always! And props to you for not cleaning up and changing clothes afterwards…people should know what they’re in for when they are doing some good gardening, because if ya look like y did when ya started, then ya probably skipped a few steps😅 thanks for bringing us along on these jobs.-it’s super informative✨
Please come back to this property in a year or so and show us what it looks like. I like the way you think ahead to the way this entry area will look in winter.
Looks great Jim!! When can you get out to my house 😆? Seriously it looks great and I’m really enjoying ur channel. Great content. Keep up the great work.
This is going to be a great series. I’m always look for inspiration for smaller garden spaces. So many garden channels have such huge spaces that it’s hard to get a visual fora smaller bed. This helps so much! Is that front bricked area for parking? Just wondering how it’s used.
Yes it is two parking spots. I included in a couple of takes🤣. It was really hard to shoot this with all the loud traffic and walkers. I missed a few points in different takes
GREAT!!!!!!! Jim, as you place/plant items, would you please explain WHY you chose that particular placement (on any given arrangement). The garden looks great but I don’t know why it’s visually appealing. THANKS!!!
Great choices Jim. Love Oakland holly but maybe too much maintenance for that spot. Did you consider Dragon Lady or possibly osmanthus goshiki? Not a big juniper fan so that space would have gone to deutzia yuku cherry blossom, Aronia low scape mound, little missy boxwood or variegated liriope Overall a quality landscape that allows for growth, seasonal interest, and color. Nice!!!!😎
Great video. I’m in 7b as well and wrote down all plants you used. Look forward to the other videos. I have a large area I need to plant and create a screen but not a solid screen. QUESTION: Will you be re-visiting them and attaching to the planting videos. Would love to see these area at maturity.
Nice video, it looks really good. What is the name of the shovel again? I think i need that shovel? Will be watching. Your are a "go getter" working hard and fast!
Great video. I do have to say though that if that Hydrangea is anything like my Limelight it will be covered in pollinators. I don't think it's an issue though since it is so far from the door. You did make me think about my choice to put Coneflowers, Butterfly Bush, 3 Agastache , Bee Balm and Salvia all around my deck. Lol This is their first year but I hope I haven't made a mistake. Well see I guess. Lol The deck is raised above the ground a bit so maybe it won't be an issue.
It is interesting that you have a lot of bees on limelight. It typically has mostly sterile flowers. Older paniculatas like tardiva and pee gee are fantastic for attracting pollinators.
Question about the mulch build-up…. Should you remove mulch and relocate to another area of your property when it gets build-up like that in some cases? I just started using bark mulch, instead of pine needles this year.
Thanks for another great video. I've seen holly with lots of bees on them.. why wouldn't that be the case with the one you planted? I believe you mentioned it was flowering.
Awesome video! Is that Tokyo Tower reliably hardy in zone 6? I'm in 6b so thinking I should be fine, but had some other zone 6 hardiness plants not make the cut after some bad winters.
No, it's unlikely. They are each unique plants that have lots of variety in them. Every double red knockout rose is from the same parent plant. We cloned it millions of times and it is possible that is what weakened it.
I love that you didn't clean up after gardening! If you're not dirty after gardening, you're not doing it right...LOL
Amen! Keep it real.
I really like seeing the one day landscaping jobs. One of your older landscape jobs is how I found your channel!! Thanks for doing this and letting us watch!!
I love this “One day landscaping job” series. Looking forward to the other ones!
I bought the trenching shovel from Jim’s Amazon store and I agree. I’m 68 years old and don’t have the strength I had , so the shovel works great.
I did too ! I’m 69 and love working in my garden!
Thanks, good to know!
This is exciting! I really need this kind of inspiration and education for our landscape. Thanks for bringing us along.
Thanks for watching!
Love these one day planting projects.
I’m excited for the next 4 parts. Thanks for part 1.
I really enjoyed this video and am looking forward to seeing what you do with the other spaces. I like that you talk about the challenges you have to address (water and soil conditions), why you chose the plants, and what effect they will have once mature (screening, etc).
Awesome. Thanks for following along!

@@geenaw3809I agree!!
Interesting point about people worried about bees. I have many pollinator plants and have only been stung when I put my hands where they shouldn't be!
Same here. I invite them everywhere, but I don't have reaction like others.
What a great idea to show this!
I actually spent the morning clearing the front yard in prep for a complete re-do.
I must say I’m glad to see you look like me after 2 hours gardening on a hot, humid morning. But your knees are too clean.
Love your channel! This newbie has been stuck for over a year trying to plan my flowerbed. I finally have a plan after watching multiple videos from your channel.
Wow.!!! I want to see the outcome of this garden. I am sure it will look outstanding.
Oh boy! I can’t wait to see how this turns out! So much potential. The owners are going to love it! Thank you for sharing with us.
Cool project!
Looks great. I can't wait to see the complete series. I love these one-day landscape jobs. They make everything so attainable.

I enjoyed seeing how you set things up and made it look great. I’m looking forward to the other four or five videos.
Yo, JP! You certainly like to take on some interesting projects. I know you can do it. That's great.
Inspiring, positive -enthusiastic attitude 😎 🌺🌻

Looking forward to the dry shade area as I have that same situation.
What a great video. You give me hope for my yard. Look forward to seeing the whole process. Thanks, Jim!
Great fun,what a beautiful property

Exciting!!! I have some of the same needs in my landscaping as this house, can’t wait to see how it all turns out!
Looks like a fun project! Looking better already!
Typing comment during the first advert. Just want to say... Seriously looking forward to this five video series x

Love the practical one day job(s). Thank you for being real!!!!
Thank you for this landscaping video! It’s good to see how that works out.
Love this video - I’m excited to see these landscape jobs. Fun to see different spaces.
I love nandinas! Lemon Lime nandina has such "clean" leaves.
Looks really nice and organized. Hope we can see it when it’s grown in a little. Maybe in the spring.
Great fun! Can't wait to see more as it evolves.
I really enjoyed seeing how you broke the project up into sections. Makes it easier to visualize for me as I am planning out some new garden spaces :)
Love seeing these one day jobs Jim 😀 it’s always exciting to see before and after 💕
Really like seeing how you spaced everything out and some very interesting species of plants in there I have not seen.
Autumn Empress is gorgeous. Wow I am going to be on the lookout for these
I like that you use the brown pots! Wow that white wedding looks healthy . I planted some early summer. They dont look as nice. Hoping they do better next year

I’m in a same process for my front yard transforming it to a cottage garden.
Nice already. Something to look forward to for the other garden sections.
Thank you so much for this video! This is giving me a lot of ideas and inspiration for my own landscape that I'm working on! Can't wait to see the rest of the job!!
Jim I love all your videos. But these type where u show us jobs. Before and after. Is the best 😀
Looks great! The houses in your neighborhood are so charming.
Lots of different styles for sure.
Nice to see normal sized properties . Enjoy your videos !
Excited to watch this series!
That looks great!! What an interesting property to transform. I look forward to seeing it change! 😊👍

Looking forward to the video series. I have a couple of the same garden challenges that you’ll show us how to transform. Can’t wait to see 🏡🌲🌲🌲🏡
I learn so much from your videos!
Awesome job Jim...
I will overhaul my yard and this is a great to get some ideas! Love it!
Another great video! I'm always learning something new. QUESTION: Can you talk a bit about irrigation issues on these one-day landscape jobs? Did you have to make any additions or adjustments to water?
Love these types of videos. Great ideas.
This is very inspiring! Looks beautiful!
Thanks Jim

Love this content
I’m so envious of the size of that Tokyo tower. I ordered one on line and it’s so tiny.
This will be fun - thank you.
Ha quedado fantástico, muy bien organizado. Felicitaciones 😀👍🏽👏🏽

Thank you very much!!
Jim -- am tickled because these plants are zone 6 hardy!!! So I can use in NE Kansas. Thanks.
You’ve got your work cut out for you Jim. Maybe it will be cool weather. 😎👌
Great blank slate with lots of work to do!! Thanks for watching

GREAT!!!!!!! Jim, as you place/plant items, would you please explain WHY you chose that particular placement (on any given arrangement). The garden looks great but I don’t know why it’s visually appealing. THANKS!!!
Great series! Love all the plants. I also have issues with bees and asian hornets.Unfortunately all the flowers I love are also loved by them.
Great choices Jim. Love Oakland holly but maybe too much maintenance for that spot. Did you consider Dragon Lady or possibly osmanthus goshiki?
Not a big juniper fan so that space would have gone to deutzia yuku cherry blossom, Aronia low scape mound, little missy boxwood or variegated liriope

Question about the mulch build-up…. Should you remove mulch and relocate to another area of your property when it gets build-up like that in some cases? I just started using bark mulch, instead of pine needles this year.
If you will just put down a few inches occasionally it won't happen. I think someone else didn't have enough topsoil so they put a foot of mulch
I've been looking everywhere for Dragon Prince cryptomeria where did you find it
Can always fluff the mulch.
Very nice 🥰👏
Thanks for another great video. I've seen holly with lots of bees on them.. why wouldn't that be the case with the one you planted? I believe you mentioned it was flowering.
It will definitely have some bees on it for time in the late winter normally.
Will you add some trailing vine to soften the wall that abuts the driveway?
Either a vine coming up or something planting on the top to trail down
looks great and donT forget the saying "every day when you have dirty clothes is a good day"
I am trying to make some decisions on front beds. You have given me some good options here! But only 2 hours? Wow, please come and help me!, 😄😄
I need that fast forward button for my projects... It always seems to go in real time (if not slower).
Looking forward to seeing all 5 episodes. What a nice change from what was there . If you didn’t want space left for annuals what would you put there?
Some sort of low ground cover. Maybe Brigadoon St. John's Wort
I'm glad you are blurring thr edge of the big brick pad in front. It is rather overpowering.
Awesome video! Is that Tokyo Tower reliably hardy in zone 6? I'm in 6b so thinking I should be fine, but had some other zone 6 hardiness plants not make the cut after some bad winters.
Yes, the regular Chinese Fringe Tree (Chionanthus retusus) is hardy into zone 5. This one probably is as well
Might I also suggest watering the hole and adding some time release fertilizer before planting 😅
Not a good idea to fertilize plants in the fall really
Nice garden area hjr 👍🙏💗😎🥰😘
Why did you not water them in? Wouldn't it have made your job look even better?? Looks good but just wondering.
I of course watered them🤣.
Roto till in the existing mulch then plant and top dress
If you till in that wood, you will likely create anarobic soil conditions.
2:34 did those knockouts... get... knocked out?
Are Encor azaleas going to be the next knockout rose?
No, it's unlikely. They are each unique plants that have lots of variety in them. Every double red knockout rose is from the same parent plant. We cloned it millions of times and it is possible that is what weakened it.
I thought knockout roses were tough as nails. What the heck is rose rossette?
Invest in an ogre. It saved my back from digging so many holes and with my type of soil, it was the best investment.
