So my second grade teacher used to brag about how she climbed half dome and i never understood until I climbed Vernal Fall and felt like I was gonna die. Then I found videos like this. You can't imagine how much respect I have for her now.
6:45 Yosemite is one of the most over crowded national parks. They have a very active and well staffed ranger corps and they absolutely DO check permits, and for very good reason. They are protecting the park from overuse.
Really like seeing a hike done at a pace that actually lets one see the area, views and terrain. I was getting tired of all the vids showing how far and how fast one can do a hike. Thanks for the info. Not dissing fast through hikers, simply stating that a lot of us like a more leisurely pace. Keep it up.
i dont mean to be off topic but does any of you know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb lost my account password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me!
@Ramon Jaxson thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Happy Birthday! It's my grandsons birthday today as well. He's 5 and if your as smart as him your one smart dude. I love Yosemite and I've hiked up Yosemite falls too. Thanks for taking us on your adventure. I will be hiking the John Muir one day.
What a beautiful place to be on your birthday Bigfoot!! Happy birthday brother, enjoy your hike. Love your videos and I have a good feeling that I'll love these the most! Looking forward to the rest of them. Take care man and be safe out there. Hike on...
Great video. I feel like I am there with you. (I'm a fellow Minnesotan) I had one day in Yosemite Valley in August and hiked up and over Vernal and Nevada Falls. Half Dome is on my bucket list. Can't wait to see the next video.
Wen i go for my pct hike in 2019. I will make sure to stay at least several days at Yosemite. It just looks utterly brilliant. And it is already scoring 10+ on the awesome scale for me.... a bit crowded but i think there are ways to avoid that. :) Thanks for showing mr B ;)
This is amazing!! So cool to see what backpacking is like outside of Minnesota! You passed us on the SHT this August in your speed trek in the beginning of Aug. However we were eating lunch at a site when you went by :(
+Katie Morse Hey Katie! Stinks I missed you. I will be out there again next Fall in September if you are up in that area. Put the JMT on your list, you won't be disappointed
For those interested in doing Half Dome from the valley floor, do what Bigfoot did, and plan it to camp before you summit the dome. The distance seems like a day hike, but the climb is rough and steep with lots of wet stone staircases that need to be taken slowly and carefully. There is a great campsite in Little Yosemite Valley behind the dome that makes a good halfway point. If you insist on trying to do this as a day hike, no matter how early you start, you will probably be doing some dangerous descent in the dark.
+Early_Riser_71 It was incredible. Everyday I had views that blew the Whites out of the away. Once you get out of Yosemite you get rid of all the day hikers.
Where approximately was your campsite located at 18:30? Between Halfdome and Sunrise High Sierra Camp? Do you know how far beyond half dome ? Looks like a beautiful site for night 2 on the JMT. Thanks!
Happy Birthday! Great video, looking forward to the next ones. Where was the campsite you stayed at the second night? Had you gone past sunrise camp and on your way to Cathedral lakes? It is stunning.
Great job Bigfoot. Thanks for the awesome views. 6000' of elevation the first day is a lot of up for 1 day but of course I don't have to tell you that. I didn't see anyone coming down the cables on half dome. Is there another route down?
I think the fire damage will be from the Meadow fire in 2014. I was a few hours ahead of it but only noticed the smoke at Tuolumne. I think they had to evacuate people by helicopter from Half Dome.
Side trail, so is Clouds Rest. You could hike up to Clouds Rest from the JMT just past Little Yosemite Valley then come back down to the JMT on the other side at Sunrise Camp. It's what I plan to do this year.
I am doing the JMT in July this year and trying to figure out how to fit in clouds rest and half dome into my mileage. Can you give me more info about how you did this and your campsite after half dome? I am starting Happy Isle--LYV first night. Thanks.
Great stuff. I've watched a lot of your videos. I was really looking forward to this one, because I'm planning to do the JMT next summer. I have a gear question. I noticed you use the Delorme in reach. Are you using this for actual navigation, or just for emergency communication? Are you recording a gps track as you go? I thought I heard you say that your solar charger was charging your gps. So, does the Delorme have a rechargeable battery in it? Really looking forward your upcoming videos. Thanks so much for sharing!
+Louis Richardson I'm using it to allow others to track me as well as a way to communicate to others like Miss Bigfoot how things are going when I don't have cell service. Then it's my emergency backup in the event anything ever goes wrong. The Delorme has a rechargeable battery. I like that more than batteries, much cheaper
Hi, Is it legal to leave your backpack, food canister and tent unattended in the wilderness while hiking the half dome? I don’t want to carry a 30lb backpack to hike up the half dome, but the official website of the park says that we can’t leave our things unattended unless is at little Yosemite valley campground.
I hiked up trail about a half mile south of the Half Dome junction where you can tent. I pitched my tent and threw everything but my food and a couple of essentials and left it there until I got done and packed back up and continued south
Flew into Reno, and got a ride into the park from a Patron. If I did it over again I would fly into Mammoth Lakes and take the shuttle straight to the park from there. Hassle free.
+Larry Gee I intentionally did that as those were parts I either cut out of my vlog or parts that I had in later in the video. It sounded a little better have a little of the ambience of the background sounds than turning it off
+Khevin Black Toe the Pirate Watterson Because I had to stay at Little Yosemite Valley for the requirements of my permit and I go there so early, so I had like 8 hours of the day to explore. I was actually going to do both and hit Half Dome on the way back but I was too wiped.
+ali murat saka Thank you. I'm happy how it turned out. I also upgraded to Final Cut to edit. Have a lot to learn on the new software but I can do so much more!
BF, this year national parks saw their highest visitation in NPS history, some 20% increase over last year, up to 50% increase over last two years, unsustainable increases. Hopefully, just a fad.
+sgm1960 I did that intentionally using some of the clips that the audio that was hard to hear because of the wind. I am switching some things up on how I'm editing my upcoming videos as I upgraded my software. I wanted to do that 3 minute clip of the highlights of the day before I panned it over to the vlog
hAPpY BirTHdAy! If you were born on September 28, then you are a charming and creative Libra. You love receiving attention. You walk into a room and people stop to stare. Often this is because you forget to wear pants. Have a good day and a big hiking thumbs up.
fanof runbot they did for us. We met many great Rangers while there. There are a few bad apples same as any profession, but if you're doing the right thing no worries!

What a beautiful place ! I was there in the 70's... would love to go back. Thanks for sharing.

I learned that lesson the hard way on the JMT 20 years ago. My college student bank account had to deal with citation that it wasn't ready for. LOL.
Happy birthday.
Every time you looked over the edge at Half Done, I got butterflies in my stomach. Lol
+Chef Cocoa It was a gnarly steep drop. Thanks for the B-Day wishes!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I just got back last week from a Yosemite backpacking journey. Clouds rest and half dome are amazing.
+Jason Sadler Yes they are! Hell of a climb to Clouds Rest from LYV
Happy B-Day! The hike looks amazing! Definitely near the top of my Bucket List. Thanks for taking us along.

@Ramon Jaxson It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my account :D
@Marcelo Kairo Happy to help xD
That is amazing, out of this world. Thank you for filming and sharing!

Happy Birthday Bigfoot! Gorgeous video and I am quite envious!
+ginlyn39 Thank you so much!
Loved every minute. What beauty.

Good start amigo. Enjoying the views and your commentary.
Happy Birthday! Beautiful video....gotta go to Yosemite SOON!
+Kees Roma Its my favorite NSP of them all!
I'd love to see your itinerary for this trip!

Big foot.. great fun man! Thanks for sharing.
+Callie_Dan 👍👍👍👍
Happy Birthday! Thanks for the amazing stuff, as is usual!
OMG! my last trip in the fall to the PNW my pack weight was about 50lbs also
I started hiking in the sixties, that was normal. Kudos to you
What a wonderful trip.
The views are beautiful! Happy birthday!

+BDU King Thank you!!!
I've been looking forward to your videos on the JMT and you did not disappoint my friend. Gorgeous views and well documented 👍👍 JoeBmxer
+Joe Grimaldi Thanks Joe. I got a lot more footage I'll be releasing in the next couple weeks as I get time to edit them.
Fantastic! I can't wait to see em! The JMT is my dream hike! Your videos have been so helpful for me too try and plan it, thank you!
Great adventure. Happy Birthday.
This was gorgeous! I think I will go outside and walk NOW! :)
awesome video bigfoot. Happy birthday. thank you for the videos.
Those views blew me away bro! Not sure I could handle all those people...but I would try just to get the views. Thanks for sharing these videos!
+Early_Riser_71 It was incredible. Everyday I had views that blew the Whites out of the away. Once you get out of Yosemite you get rid of all the day hikers.
Happy happy birthday. Great video.
+Jeff Calvary Thanks for the b-day wishes!
Where approximately was your campsite located at 18:30? Between Halfdome and Sunrise High Sierra Camp? Do you know how far beyond half dome ? Looks like a beautiful site for night 2 on the JMT. Thanks!
Brutal hike. I feel proud for doing both in one day even though my legs were dying after clouds rest 🤣
Happy Birthday! Great video, looking forward to the next ones. Where was the campsite you stayed at the second night? Had you gone past sunrise camp and on your way to Cathedral lakes? It is stunning.

That was cool! I'm rewatching this series. Next year Bigfoot!
Beautiful! But good thing you weren't anywhere near El Capitan today.
Inspired! Thank you.
I think the fire damage will be from the Meadow fire in 2014. I was a few hours ahead of it but only noticed the smoke at Tuolumne. I think they had to evacuate people by helicopter from Half Dome.
+Andy Outdoors That would make sense from
Where the fire was at in relation to everything. Thank you
Our group had our permits checked at least once, sometimes twice a day for the 4 days we were there.
We were there August 5th 2017.
+NorCalCrisp Makes sense, I would assume they would have more rangers out during the peak time. Was it in Yosemite?
Sure was. We did Clouds Rest and then Half Dome.
Oh and by the way... Now I want to hike the JMT. These views! There are no words..
5:40. Totally looked like a fire! Also at 18:44.
Great views
Happy Birthday!
+Farmer Bob Thanks Bob!!!
The Halfdome (the one with the cables) looks incredible!! Can someone tell me - is it a side trail or part of the main JMT??
Side trail, so is Clouds Rest. You could hike up to Clouds Rest from the JMT just past Little Yosemite Valley then come back down to the JMT on the other side at Sunrise Camp. It's what I plan to do this year.
Happy Birthday! 🍰🎂🍻🎉
Awesome video! Quick question.... does your JMT permit allow you to climb half-dome or do you need to get a separate permit for that? Thanks!
I am doing the JMT in July this year and trying to figure out how to fit in clouds rest and half dome into my mileage. Can you give me more info about how you did this and your campsite after half dome? I am starting Happy Isle--LYV first night. Thanks.
The footage off the side of Halfdome alone gave me heart palpitations. I couldn't do it.
+StumpJumper It had my heart skip a few as well!
Any bouts of altitude sickness?
happy birthday awesome video. Is half dome as steep as it looks? To me it looks straight up but im guessing maybe 45
+machineryrepairman There is a real steep pitch, I think they say it's 45 but it feels like 65
How did you attach the umbrella and still use your trekking poles. Thanks.
Anyone know what this trail is like at the end of June? Will there be as many people?
Amazing,,, However I’m like “get away fro that ledge!”
Is there any chance of theft leaving your tent and stuff while you wander off to half dome or somewhere and it’s unattended? Is that common?
Great stuff. I've watched a lot of your videos. I was really looking forward to this one, because I'm planning to do the JMT next summer. I have a gear question. I noticed you use the Delorme in reach. Are you using this for actual navigation, or just for emergency communication? Are you recording a gps track as you go? Beautiful views .. Happy Bigfoot day .. enjoy amigo !!
+Mick Kae Thank ya Mick. It's a great day!
Do you use a footprint or ground sheet under you zpacks tent?
So cool!
+Greeter's 2017 Thru-Hike Thank you Greeter!

I’m curious to know where you flew into and how you got to the park?
Flew into Reno, and got a ride into the park from a Patron. If I did it over again I would fly into Mammoth Lakes and take the shuttle straight to the park from there. Hassle free.
What's up with the hole in the hip belt pocket?
+sgm1960 Chipmunk got it and stole my peanuts on top of Half Dome while I was filming that short blurb. Didn't take long for him to get in and get out
HAPPT BIRTHDAY !!
+Tami Wynn Thanks Babe!
Awesome!
The background music was louder than your comments in part of the first third of your post.
+Larry Gee I intentionally did that as those were parts I either cut out of my vlog or parts that I had in later in the video. It sounded a little better have a little of the ambience of the background sounds than turning it off
Beautiful
Hi Bigfoot was that Dixie in the background ?
at 40 sec in ?
I cant understand anything over the music :(
Did you capture all this footage on your iPhone? I haven't used Final Cut in many years, might be time to take another look at it.
Yes, all on my Iphone 7+
Spectacular 👍🇺🇸
Hei sweet page ☺ Keep it up!
how'd your pack get that hole? marmot? rubbing?
+Brent Welborn it was Alvin the chipmunk on top of Half Dome
AMAZING
Why clouds rest b4 half dome?
+Khevin Black Toe the Pirate Watterson Because I had to stay at Little Yosemite Valley for the requirements of my permit and I go there so early, so I had like 8 hours of the day to explore. I was actually going to do both and hit Half Dome on the way back but I was too wiped.
60 fps looks really good
+ali murat saka Thank you. I'm happy how it turned out. I also upgraded to Final Cut to edit. Have a lot to learn on the new software but I can do so much more!
Been out there twice but no balls to do half dome 😳
+Iwazza Badboy The balls are at the top 😊
Wow
BF, this year national parks saw their highest visitation in NPS history, some 20% increase over last year, up to 50% increase over last two years, unsustainable increases. Hopefully, just a fad.
+tnprime Agreed!
lol the increase is because of TH-cam and other social media outlets, it will get worst
Also, I love your videos and I'm a subscriber but it looks like you are narrating but we cant hear anything for the music.
Np, like I said I'm a fan of your videos, just wanted to make sure that I didn't miss anything, lol!
Go mountaineer !

+robert wood Thanks for the horoscope Robert!!!!!
No music please un just you walking would be fine .now gotta listening to that horrible guitar it’s like finger on chalk board
Rangers = toll collectors. Do Rangers provide ANY positive interaction?
fanof runbot they did for us. We met many great Rangers while there. There are a few bad apples same as any profession, but if you're doing the right thing no worries!
