Oh, wow! Don't know how this got into my feed but I'm grateful. In 1969, I was granted a driver's license three days after I turned 14. Whoever signed off on that needs to have their head examined, but I was grateful. Living in Ft. Worth, TX, I threw a few cans of whatever into my car, rolled up a few wool Army blankets, and headed off to Big Bend NP for about ten days. It was much different then than it is now. Wandered in and out of México, hiked the Chisos Mountains, slept on the ground beside my car. Been to Big Bend many, many times since then but that trip as a KID will always stand out as the best of the best! Thanks for the memories!
Thank you so much for posting this I loved it. I was born in Midland n 1956, and have been to ever place you showed in these wondaful pics. We flew to Brackettville, and Dad landed our Cessna on the dirt road out front and taxied right up to the gates, got a tour from one of the Alamo Stunt Men , it was only a year after John Wayne released the Alamo. I rode to The Window horseback at 5 years old, swam in the Rio Grande and the Guadalupe, been to Terlingua and so many more great memories. Mom and Dad are gone, but I will never forget the memories of exploring my beloved Texas.
What memories! Went through the same areas, Big Bend, Terlingua, Judge Roy Bean, on our way from Houston to California in 1965. Our pics weren't nearly as good though! Thanks!
