Not worth $40m a year to keep Alonso with his low BA. Plus it's JD Martinez who has made a bigger impact to the lineup. Vientos and Alvarez are the future with Lindor and Nimmo.
Trade Alonso. Move Vientos to first base. Baty can finish the year at 3rd for remainder of year then Mauricio next year. Acuna/ Williams coming to play 2b. Iglesias infield utility. Use money on pitching.
The Yankees should highly consider trading Soto as well. The Yankees will not be the highest bidder, make no mistake about that and they will lose him for nothing.Send him to the highest bidder..The Yankees started this losing streak around the same time they wanted to Boras about that Soto extension and we haven’t heard a whisper since..Get a few top prospects back before this guy leaves us flat footed 🤭
Yankees have a chance to make a postseason run because of the caliber of player he is. Things are bad rn, but without him much much worse. They will not have an under .500 season if they can help it, they will keep Soto and risk losing him to FA. The risk is worth it man. No ones gonna give up their farm for half a season of him. He is too costly, you might as well pay for him only at this point. They won’t find the proper suitors for him via trade
I think it hadn’t been discussed is because if a team trades you but makes an offer in the off season for you, that player may or could think why did they trade me in the first place? That player may not want to have any dealings with that team that moved on from him.
@@jameskhan7786 Currently..... with them in playoff position.....I agree with you. However.....if they were out of the playoff picture then I believe Pete would understand the business side of a decision to trade him to gain prospects and then sign again with the team in free agency. I am quite sure the conversation has been discussed between Pete and Scott Boras. I also question Michael Kay suggesting Pete isn't a guy Stearns is interested in long-term. I doubt any GM likes aging contracts in a perfect world. Obviously most would like a guy to be on the back end of a contract by age 35 and not older.....but you have to weigh out the value of the player throughout the contract and you have to realize that the NY market creates plenty of revenue for this team to handle some regression on the back end of the deal. This is a very different decision from dealing with a Milwaukee market. If they let him go and they struggle to find a guy that puts up the production he has over the past five years then the fans will forever question Stearns. Personally.....id keep him. You have an owner that can afford his contract and with all the young talent in the system Pete would be a great presence in the middle of the lineup.
@@ralelunar never said he was. There's a reason the lower guys in this lineup are hitting. One of them is pete protects them. You're clearly just ignorant 🙄
In my opinion...... with Cohen stating clearly that he bought the Mets for the fans..... trading Alonso would be completely against that grain. The Mets have the owner with the most money and he claims to be in this to make Mets fans smile. It's easy to accomplish that by keeping Pete a Met and by handling the possibility that a longer contract may not age well but kept a prolific home run hitter and home grown talent in NY...... Queens specifically. Isn't that the advantage of having an owner with money??? .....to be able to keep a guy like Alonso and worry about his 35+ year old seasons when they happen???
These guys are not being fair especially kay. Pete alonso bat is the reason why jd and lindor and rest are doing good. He’s a big bat that pitchers must watch out. Lindor batted 199 lol. Now he batting 250 and they winning. I rather flip jd martinez and put vientos there, flip marte and nimmo snd mcneil n some pitching since acuna is ready so is scott and brito
Mets won't trade Alonso unless they sharply drop out of the WC race.
Spoiler: The Yankees Lost that "Rubber" Game against Rays.

@@DanielSnyder-to4tdI agree but Mets are in need of pitching prospects which teams won’t give up to get a 1B that’s batting .240
If anything just put mcneil at 2nd and iglesias at 3rd for a couple weeks
mets fans are sadists and pete would keep them in that mode
Petey should be a lifelong Met. He has weaknesses but I believe he's the heart and soul
His buzzer beater contraption, belongs in the Hall of Fame!
5 yrs 175 for pete ain't bad also the Mets have 150 million coming off the books
$35M for Pete is absolutely Terrible. are you smoking crack
It's getting hairy out there! Even Pete's Rug, got lost in the mail!
Trade him
The Met's success this year has little to do with Alonso.
Exactly 👍🏽 but his value decreased since last season . Mets need pitching prospects in return to say the very least
He’s in a slump. Imagine how good we will be when he’s hot
Trade him to the A’s 😂
The numbers that kay is bringing up makes no sense. Boras and pete know hes not getting 30-40 mil+ per.
If the package is worth it I say yes
Even if the Mets do trade Pete , his value is way less than last season . Cubs/ Rays were willing to give up a haul but Mets said no
I love how you all talk about the Tax bracket but yet insist Mets are in play for Soto lol.
Talk to the O's! Mountcastle is a top 1st baseman!

Absolutely no conversation here about the possibility of trading Alonso now and then signing him in free agency...... surprised nobody discussed this

Nimmo will pass wright for most hits as a met. He will be the lifetime met
Keep Pete, away from the big stage, overkill and intense heat, can shrink his viability! Try dancing with the stars, first!
Its a great way to get bullpen help and/or trade assets for another trade
Nolan Ryan too Mets too let Nolan Ryan walk as well lol
Stupid comp, Ryan was 24, and a top 3 player. Alonso is not a top 50 player
Nolan Ryan wasn't an ace when the Mets let him walk, it's not the same thing
@ralelunar Mets suck anyways so do the Yankees, Giants and Jets, Rangers, all New York sports teams are trash anyways, could care less.
Don is sporting the "Mr. Freeze, look". Was this ordered by the higher ups? Christmas in July? TV movie routine?
Those players you mentioned are raking because pete is in the lineup.
exactly what i was thinking hes protecting the other guys. you cant trade pete alonso and you must resign him . theres nobody better out there.
Pete is hitting 4th 😂 He's not protecting anyone, he's not Judge

THIS FOOL.SAID "BASED ON A 30 GAME SAMPLE THE METS DON'T NEED ALONSO"..
Lagrecca please go be a yankee fan and leave the mets alone PLEASE
Wasn’t he a devils fan and all of a sudden a rangers fan but he calls fraud all the time
Go grab a couple of young arms under contract for several years.
Astros farm system is near depleted. They won’t offer nearly enough. Next topic.
Tough decision....I can understand both sides of it
Not team makes business decisions based on whatever emotionally overwrought and low information fans are screaming about and demanding.
No teams are pitching to Pete
No!!! I just posited this trade on a different thread: straight up Pete for Bryan Bello on the sox.
Good thing you’re not the GM
Would much rather see Sterns go than Alonso even though Stearns has mad good moves for people like Bader and Ingleseis.
THESE FOOLS SAID: "BASED ON A 30 GAME SAMPLE THE METS DON'T NEED ALONSO." THESE FOOLS WANT ALONSO OFF THE METS.
Pete plays good defense at first. Michael Kay is just regurgitating false clown talking points. Watch the games or shut up. Sign Pete at all cost.
Pete is a good defensive first baseman. Shows how much Michael Kay knows about the Mets.
Pete is a terrible first baseman 😂 Do you watch the games? A good first baseman doesn't have to belly flop for balls.
@@ralelunar clearly you don't
has to be a great package to trade pete, if not keep him. until end of season.
But Teams worry about Pete in the lineup
