When I first started in engineering, I was doing a job and thought something like this would be useful, then realised they actually existed and could be purchased for the price of a takeaway 😉
I’ll get back to editing the kitchen fitting videos soon!
I hope everyone has a great Sunday 👍

You've just got to make sure you haven't bounced out of position when hitting the punches, sometimes it's safer to fix the first hole in place then proceed to the one diagonally across from it and drill and fix that, the next two holes then become much more of a surety and can be marked at the same time. :)

Spot on UH...don't use them often, but indispensable when needed

A simple yet brilliant tool. I can't think of a time when I've needed them but then again I'm not an engineer or a tradesman.

Yeah, these are one of those things that most people never knew existed, until they did a job where they were 😂
      Thanks for the comment 👍

I have the same set I use for jewellery making - wrap silver wire around to make jump rings in various consistent sizes. Interesting to know what they’re actually intended for!

Usually see a couple of transfer punches outside the pubs in town on a Saturday night. Good demo. And good video. 👍👍

Interesting, I never knew they existed. I have fabricobbled something similar in the past, but never 100% accurate. I think I'll be buying a set of those.

And to mark hole positions for which yo haven't got the right sized transfer punch - say the holes on a pipe flange you are making - simply turn a piece of bar down to the correct hole size then drill a 13 mm hole ( or whatever to suit a punch that you do have) through the centre and you have an adaptor. I've used that trick a good few times.

I have a similar gizmo for wood, it is a cone with a prong, you place the cone over the hole like in your video and the prong gives you the centre point below, can't find it right now lol but it does a certain diameter say 3mm up to 20mm. Like you I suddenly realised I needed a solution, then found it was less than a tenner! The only differences are this is an awl not a punch plus the prong is not that long. Wish I could say what it is called but I don't know.

Iknow this is off topic but I've got like a small tree stump in my garden and it's pushed the fence post out of position abit along with the slabbing.
Is there a stump killer type chemical i can use to get rid of it.
Like drill some holes into it and pour it in?
Then obviously i can get rid of it and repair the fence post.

Pay for an expert to do it! Avoid a disaster.
If you have patience then you can disintegrate a tree stump over two years - use Epsom salts or boiling water in drilled holes [repeat every two weeks] - exact instructions are on the net.
Simplest, quick solution [if there's good access] is just have it cut level with the ground - that's easy if you've used a chain saw before, but don't even try unless you've got all the protection possible - you can turn a small task into a funeral very easily. If you're in the UK try Roundup or similar - follow exact instructions printed on the container. BUT killer chemicals depend on the stump still being alive. Weedkiller is best applied to fresh stumps, as live tissue is needed for its uptake. If the stump is only a few weeks old, you may be able to expose live tissue by cutting the top off to expose a fresh-cut surface. Finally, cover the whole top of the stump with a plastic sheet to keep off the rain and secure in place. For very old stumps you'll have problems because you'll need an acid - very dangerous & NOT for amateurs!

I didn’t know what these were used for but I do have a set I use for different purposes. I use the other side (flat side) to make mandala art. (Circle art with paint). Interesting. Thank you 😊

Can I use this to center punch a deep broken bolt to extract it ?? The way the bolt broke made a cone shape and it’s impossible to center punch because it slips to the side

I could see owning a set of these if you needed to use them all the time, such as if you worked in a maintenance department for a large corporation or something. I usually just use a drill bit that is close to the correct size and just drill a tiny bit into the material to mark it since I am just mounting things in the floor or walls and it does not need to be exact.
