Short answer: no, unless you were personally invited and they have made it blatantly obvious that they are looking forward to seeing you (usually they’ll discount or make it free). They do this from college to Indy ball

Showcases are for kids of rich parents. A typical travel season costs around $5,000 between team costs and all travel + lodging. Showcases are extra money and extra costs. If your kid is good he will get exposure through travel and school play. I know of several kids ranked high due to showcases. But the only reason they are ranked high is because lots of kids simply can’t afford the extra expense of having their child attend regional showcases.

That’s what matters if you can pay your way. School ball is not enough

This was SO helpful! Thank you for breaking it down for parents who just want straight talk. Appreciate it!

My 14 year through all this on a 16u team last summer. Wasted time, money, and the opportunity to train.
Spent no time at showcase games this summer. We don’t know if it’ll pay off but it’s better than missing the chance to get better.

People poo poo showcases but honestly i have seen so many scout interviews saying they do attend showcases. Scouts would much rather get to see a bunch of prospects in one spot rather than traveling the country night and day. Showcase baseball is the way its done nowadays. I think travel ball is probably overrated but showcases and college camps are almost necessary.

Our take is that once you're at a certain level, sure, showcases are a great spot to showcase your tools. However, righties throwing 83 should not be going to showcases and should instead invest that money into training and once they develop they can then start attending showcases!

Dont necessarily see anything wrong about showcasing if you are average/slightly above average especially at the 15/16 range. The “foot in the door” or “throw my name out there” is acceptable as long as you are willing to put in the work that comes after your first showcase. Last thing a kid wants to do is come to a show case, throw 75-79, then appear at one 12-16 months later are are still at 79-80. Coaches, scouts, programs want to see development potential and that you CAN grow while also proving you ARE growing.
If an athlete is willing to commit to themselves and believe in their own development, they should demonstrate it with spacious exposure and showcases. Your “be so good they cant ignore you” quote is the best way of putting it. Show yourself if you want, but be ready to put in the real work after.

They are worth it to get in a lot of games in. If you think your getting college looks not happening for the most part.
