I've done a lot of research on the subject (I still had university access to a lot of academic journals back in march) and there is a lot of evidence that 3 layers of cotton or poly cotton is roughly as effective as a surgical mask. Both will let some droplets through or around the edges of the masks of course, but they dramatically reduce the amount that can get through. If you're in an environment where there is a very high exposure risk like in a hospital, then you'll wear an air tight mask with special filter rather than a surgical mask because obviously they are much better. But for the average person at the supermarket a cotton mask will do the job. They aren't perfect but they are so much more effective than nothing at all. Never underestimate the importance of reducing viral load :)

awww this is so cute! but it will be so weak against the droplets and the actual corona virus will pass through it
