Great reaction. It is just one of their fun songs - they fancy some chocolate but are a bit worried about their weight - but it is chocolate and would be so nice and would make them happy and they worked so hard so can they just have a piece of chocolate please.
Glastonbury is the biggest music festival in the world, but they hardly ever have metal there, it is mainly pop and mainstream, so the chances of there being any metalheads there were slim. Also the tickets sell out long before the line up is announced, so by the time BABYMETAL were added it was far too late for any of their own fans to get one and it is very unlikely more than a handful of people there had even heard of BABYMETAL.
This was not a typical BABYMETAL audience, although they clearly enjoyed the show they really didn't know what was happening or the part they should have played in the performance - but they warmed up as the set went on and even had a small mosh pit going by the end ... there are never mosh pits at Glastonbury, it is a pop festival (Kylie Minogue headlined on that stage later that day).
This video was from the BBC live stream and they made a complete pig's ear of the audio (and camerawork). The mics were often too low in the mix (and weren't always switched on - especially Moa's) and they never did plug in the second mic for the bass drums. I think the audio at the event was better, but the BBC's was awful.
This was Sunday lunchtime. On the Friday and Saturday nights they had played two big shows in Yokohama. After coming off stage on Saturday night they went straight to the airport and flew half way round the world overnight to London where they landed Sunday morning. They then drove half way across England to Glastonbury (in south west England) and were on stage at 12.30 in the afternoon.
Two days later they played at the Brixton Academy in London to their own audience ... that was a great gig (and was the first time I got to see them live). A few days later they were back in Japan playing another two huge concerts (Legend M) celebrating Moa's 20th birthday.
The Kami Band in this video were Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. The dark robes replaced the traditional white burial robes at the end on 2017. The masks replaced the corpse face paint at the Yokohama shows immediately before this in 2019.
You wondered about the choreo - yes for most songs it is at least in part interpretive and related to the lyrics or the meaning of the song, so it is bespoke for every song - they have always worked with Mikiko as their choreographer and she is one of Japan's very best. This isn't the standard choreo we see from so many pop acts who have dancers with the same old dance steps taken from the same old grab bag.
About their costumes (this is with thanks to Rick Wagner): Their costume designer has been Megumi Date since 2012.
"I tried to express the girls’ strength, dignity, ephemerality, and their beauty."
Just noticed you already quoted Megumi Date.
I updated my comment to include a longer quote from her.
Su the singer keeps the stage tuned during the show. She sends hand singles to the sound people when she hears adjustment are needed. In one video I saw her look back for a second and hold up 4 fingers and point up, so i guess she said turn channel 4 up. She is a total pro.
I discovered Baby Metal 3 days ago and i have been binging reaction videos to see if everyone else reacted like me and i gotta say everyone starts skeptical, then intrigued and then they end with becoming fans. Reading about the miracle at Sonisphere makes it even more amazing. They really are some type of miracle, one of a kind really.
Whats crazy is that one might think they make music for kids but when i watch reaction videos of dads and daughters its the dads that like them not their daughters. Their music is for us adults, and thats amazing to me.
Welcome to The One Number One :-)
Welcome!! 🤘🦊🤘
I took my niece to see BabyMetal show in San Francisco. She loved every single minute. The crowd was really a BabyMetal crowd. Full blown Metalheads, dads w/ daughters, etc. Evrn it was a smaller venue it was one in a lifetime experience.
For a LOT of people the typical Babymetal reaction goes like this.
1. WTF?!?
2. What the hell am I listening to?
3. This is kind of legit.
4. Holy crap!
5. Is there more?
You are new so you might not know, but BabyMetal is actually for everyone! Their fans are so diverse that in 2017 they did the 5 fox festivals with different requirements to attend:
- Black Fox Festival: only males allowed
- Red Fox Festival: only females allowed
- Silver Fox Festival: only kids and grandparents allowed
- Gold Fox Festival: only teenagers allowed
- Big Fox Festival: white face paint mandatory
welcome to the fox hole, you are part of THE ONE now
Nice!!! Please next Babymetal - Road of Resistance Live in Japan and Ijime, Dame, Zettai Live at Sonisphere 2014 and Karate Download 2016🤘🦊
Their goal is indeed to save the metal world. 😀😃😄 Riho is really a great avenger. Not only does she dance well, she often smiles but also has a lot of expressions. Thanks for your great reaction.
You should check out. "BABYMETAL- Ijime,Dame,Zettai-LIve at Sonisphre 2014,UK"
Great reaction🖤
BABYMETAL is the best thing that has happened to METAL in decades!!!!!
As I commented on your notice of this being blocked, this was a bad day for the BBC audio department, sadly, though the ladies killed it as always. Also, while Babymetal could entrance 60,000 Metal heads at the Metal fest Sonisphere in 2014 at their first Metal fest outside Japan, this was Glastonbury 2019 and the crowd are very eclectic with not many there for the Metal as there isn't much of it. They had also just done a massive concert in Japan a day or two before, then immediately flew to the UK, got driven to the festival and then got put on this second stage on a sunday morning. Ijime, Dame, Zettai, or IDZ (Bullying, No More, Forever), live at Sonisphere 2014 is the epic and iconic performance Su said was her favourite ever as they knew they had been accepted in the wider Metal world after it - th-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/w-d-xo.html . Definitely one to react to, please, pretty please, with sprinkles on! I'm a bit amazed you've never heard of Glastonbury, which lasts for 3 days every year since 1981 and regularly has 250,000+ attending and features a number of stages of every genre imaginable. Check it out!
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🍫 💝️
Glad you were able to post this reaction after all.
Su was quite a bit older than 12 when this one was released.
You might be thinking of 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning'.
Su was 12 when she recorded that one, BABYMETAL's first song, although the music video came out a year later.
She turned 16 the day before 'Gimme Chocolate!!' had its world premiere at the 'Legend 1997' concert.
In either case, Su puts on her younger voice when she sings one of these old songs.
She'll be turning 24 in December.
Megumi Date has been making their costumes since 2012. To quote her:
“I have been making their costumes since their major debut (since 2012), with the same concepts since then, consistently.
The key concept is ‘a blend of metal and kawaii.’”
Color and material, or outline and detail, I try to play with these opposing elements as BABYMETAL does with opposing musical concepts.
For example, in the music video of the new song “Karate,” the girls fight against something that’s invisible.
I have a feeling that this something that’s invisible represents the challenges they have had to overcome.
Such challenges have brought them strength that has a core the girls can hold on to.
Their strength gained so transformed the ephemerality of adolescent girls in them into the beauty of grown women.
With those thoughts of mine, I tried to express the girls’ strength, dignity, ephemerality, and their beauty by changing the arrangement of colors this time and adding rubber coating and distressed effects."
This Glastonbury festival appearance had Kami Band members Takayoshi Ohmura and Leda Cygnus on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums.
Ohmura was playing one of the guitars he inherited from Kami Band guitarist Mikio Fujioka, who passed away in early 2018.
Amazing!
It's too bad that the BBC fucked the audio on this show. Hopefully you will watch some other gimme chocolate performance on your own time to get full appreciation of this fun song
I could not believe there were no comments until I saw on your Instagram that this reaction was blocked, lol. So, I'm pretty sure this is the festival where the BBC royally screwed up the sound (like some microphones to the drums weren't hooked up and the mix was messed up). I can't remember the name of the festival at the moment but, it isn't a metal fest. More Pop oriented but, Babymetal enjoy performing there. The song is basically about young girls wanting chocolate but, they are worried about gaining weight. The Kami Band as you know are awesome. They are session musicians and are considered the best in Japan. There are several members who swap out when needed due to commitments in other projects. They later added the Kami Band of the West (All Americans) in 2019 to play on tours in the West. Hopefully that is enough to get you started. I'm sure more knowledgeable folks will be here to fill in more info or correct me if I got something wrong. Kitsune Up! 🤘🦊🤘
was glastonbury only if i right only the last day was metal bands like babymetal and bring me the horizon
@Bilhan Asensio Thank you! I could not remember the name at all.
Well you already did rondo of nightmare, and catch me if you can, which both had kami band intros I believe. So you could watch the helpful guide to babymetal to learn more about ALL aspects of BM. It is quite long you can always watch it in your own time if you can’t react to it. Nice reaction as always, kitsunes up!
i sugest karate live download
Download 2016 - the video for Download 2018 goes black for a few seconds at the end.
This was the song that introduced me to BABYMETAL! Agree, so joyeus and light hearted (and funny!). This performance is with one of the three Avengers (I believe Riho). I can also warmly recommend "Meta Taro"', which is Su-metals' personal favourite song.
I think alot of the appeal with Babymetal and other Female lead vocals Heavy bands is there doing something different and has world class metal musicians smashing out awesome metal riffs of all description. Personally I've listen to male vocal metal bands for decades but it's also cool to hear something different.
Perhaps I missed it but I didn't see any comments talking about the choreography. Since you asked at the end of the video. Their choreographer is Mikiko. One of her main ways of creating the movements is to take inspiration from the words. So there is a strong correlation between the dance moves and the lyrics of the song. English lyrics are no barrier as she is fluent in English. And she spent time studying and performing in New York early in her career coming back to Japan in time to help Perfume, who really wanted her specifically to help them with their career.
For the Babymetal song Karate, Mikiko asked the trio to research to find karate moves that would make good dance moves. They drew from multiple sources including anime and the movie The Karate Kid. Mikiko then helped weave that into the choreography of the song we see.
Mikiko is one of the top choreographers from Japan and has an impressive CV. More information can easily be found on the web.
Yes. was waiting for this! Gimme Chocolate is the gateway drug to Babymetal for a lot of people lol. But the crowd in the festival..where are the Mosh'sh pits lol?
Check out the live performance of the techno singer's trio "Perfume" by the same choreographer.
After their two performances in Yokohama Japan for the first time in half a year, Glastonbury will appear the next day.
It's a magic that can make a "time difference" between Japan and the UK, but I'm impressed with the energy that keeps smiling.
Actually this content is from Glastonbury that's a pop show and Babymetal felt out of place, also it is the worst recording they have about the quality of the mix. Those guys you see headbanging in the middle of the crowds it's just us kitsunes that merged into the poper crowd xD
If we go by the story segment the song had when it was premiered, the song is about the Fox God giving chocolate to Yui and Moa, Su sees them and also wants but the chocolate flees and she is pursuing them. And she is following them "gimme chocolate please" xD That's it. She is also worrying to put some weight.
Professor Hartley, that's a literature professor that also loves Babymetal and does deep dive videos on their songs, thought that them pointing to themselves had a feminist meaning. In Japan there is a tradition in Valentine where the girl gives a present to his boyfriend in the form of chocolates. So he speculated that they pointing on themselves meant like "hey, I also want chocolate". imo it's a bit stretched, but not impossible. There has always been a low key theme of respecting girls in their content, like in Megitsune.
I read somewhere that when Su rehearses and practices, she runs on a treadmill while she is singing so she is able to dance and jump and do all that while singing. I heard she also learned how to sing differentlyl depending on the altitude of the area she is performing so she doesn't lose any voice quality. Not sure how true it is, but that is what I read somewhere.
Hey, I also recently saw In This Moment/BVB - fantastic show. I also just saw Jinjer/Suicide Silence - also superb. Looks like we’re in the same groove at the moment. Totally agree about Babymetal and this song in particular just making you feel happy. Thanks for the reaction.
Great & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 If you see a video in YT entitled "The best of Glastonbury 2019 in 3 minutes!", you will find tons of comment about BABYMETAL even though their appearance is only 2 times 1 second each in the video.
Had to pause the video to comment: if you love costumes, makeup, theatrics in a metal band, I recommend to check out Yousei Teikoku. Another Japanese band, they were around for a while, but damn they have a unique style. Long backstory short, they are a "military band" serving a fairy empire, the vocalist, Yui, is the fairy empress herself. I think you will love her manners.
As people have said this is from Glastonbury 2019, they played in Japan the day before and flew in for the show. If you wanted a more up to date version th-cam.com/video/RmcuyI5CndQ/w-d-xo.html from 2020.
The song is not really about anything, it's just a fun song (from the band).
The problem is Babymetal have stopped as of Oct 10th. No one knows if they will come back. The thing is Babymetal live, work off the crowd, all their choreography is done in a way that gets the crowd involved in some way. So with the crowds not allowed to become involved their live shows were not quite the same. Babymetal shows go at 100% intensity with the crowds singing along, going mad in the mosh pits and everyone having a good time. So one theory is that they have just stopped while covid is around and once it's all cleared up or at least thing go back to a new normal, and crowd can start interacting with the band, they will come back.
Nightwish-Sleepwalker
"Sleepwalker" is a song by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, made and performed during the national Eurovision Song Contest tryouts in 2000. Although they placed first in the Finnish televote, the jury overruled them, selecting Nina Åström instead.
🤘🦊🤘
No Rain No Rainbow would be nice next I think
Pls next Kingslayer
Glastonbury.
Most people despise this show, as indeed the audio mix is horrible, but it's a milestone nonetheless. It's their first date abroad after their troubled 2018 tour (as it was their first one without YUI and Mikio), and it was a challenge as Glastonbury is a pop music festival, so they really have to conquer the crowd.
I think they definitely won the challenge and squeezed as much energy as it gets from them 😅.
Riho, the Avenger for the day, had some issues keeping up with MOA, who kindly cheered her a couple of times during the set, it was indeed a warm day and I think her first performance with BM.
Well SU actually cracked a little on KARATE, as she jumped too heavily from the block, but she recovered in a blink of an eye and belted the final double "Hashire" as smooth as always. Indeed that Karate is worthy to be listened to as SU improvised a new part cheering the crowd. SU is still pretty slender and light, in 2020 at the Apollo in London, after 1 hour of singing and dancing, she closed the show with a 13 seconds long "resistance" at maximum volume, pretty effortlessly 😱!
🤘🦊⚡
Also, you're very right about the volume of MOA's mic, indeed in the beginning of KARATE, it got so low she had to scream at 110% and her face flushed red as a tomato, you can see SU noticed that and almost laughed on stage 😅.
Gosh, Glastonbury :\
I'm glad you enjoyed it, but this is arguably one of their worse if not their worst performance, not at their fault.
BBC did a mess with the sound, the crowd was a Pop crowd since it wasn't a Metal festival, and was really mild. I believe the only 2 Metal bands that day were BabyMetal and Bring Me The Horizon.
You were wondering about the meaning: this song is simply about them wanting some chocolate but being a bit worried about putting on some weight, but they worked so hard so can they please have some chocolate now?
On stage with Su and Moa there was the Avenger "Riho Sayashi".
You liked the band costumes, but most of the fans dislike the Masks: they prefer the Kami Band with face paint so we can see their expressions and when they sing along :)
Off topic, I'd like to see you react to Morissette Amon. Wish bus performances of Never Enough, Rise Up, and her original Akin Ka Na Lang. Also, I think you might dig The Hu. Check out their collab with Lzzy Hale (of Halestorm) Song Of Women.
🍫🦊🤘
As to your comment on the riding horses... Watch the music video for Road of Resistance.
And I almost forgot Nicola Sedda can sing in very metal rock range, that is true.
They're no longer babymetal... They're now ladymetal 😻

Gimme chocolate lyrics are the cutest, if you search it, you'll find the song is about a girl who loves chocolate but is "worried about her weight" (Su's words)
many people say glastonbury auduo is bad for babymetal, but good reaction
Hey two new songs just dropped early this morning. The band called Born Through Fire with the new song called “Bone by Bone.” It’s Tim Lambesis from As I Lay Dying. It’s his new band. Plus check out an older band called Children of Bodom with song Sixpounder!!!!!
Это вам не хор мальчиков - зайчиков )
Am I alone in humming on this whenever buying chocolate? Please don't let me be the only one freaking people out with "gimme the chocolato, cocolato, dadididada.." in front of the chocolate shelf... 😂
Would love to see you revisit Nemophila, so many good songs for you to cover still!
please do more lovebites reactions. they are a true metal band who play their own instruments!!
🦊🤘
If you wanna check out Nicola Sedda. He has bigger vocal range than
Dimash. Actually his highest note is F10. That makes him the singer with
the biggest voice in the world. Because his vocal range is (C1-F10).
Scientists even say that the highest note that an ordinary person can
make is up to F10. If you don't believe me, watch the video on his
TH-cam channel, where he demonstrates his entire vocal range.
Initially, start with the song "The Miracle". You will ask why I tell
you all this, because you are a fan of rock music, and he himself is a
rock star, because sometimes in some of his videos he makes the devil
horn sign, and in all of his songs you will hear incredible heavy guitar
playing, but sometimes his voice changes from rock singing to high
classical or opera singing. which even goes beyond the limit of normal
singing. The music he makes is the style of bands like Rush, Pink Floyd,
King Crimson, Dream Theater and others. I hope you like and enjoy
Nicola Sedda vocal range.
all we love gimme choco, is really funny a classic song of babymetal, if you want something more new for the next i recommend you BxMxC (live), or them collaboration with bring me the horizon ¨Kingslayer¨, or another solo like Akatsuki or Amore
Just dropping by to let you know Diana won. Her final song was in the "singer's choice" category. She chose Depeche Mode (Personal Jesus).
React to Babymetal - Road of Resistance (live). It will give you chills.
And its a big differnce between the mix the real audience can hear at the gig. Normaly for this its people that really work for the group ( at least when they are as big as baby metal are) for the live tv broadcast or the recording of the gig its someone from the company that bought the broadcasting rights. So even a good audience recording probably would have had better audio mix..
Hahaha I am that super tough metalhead and loving babymetal xDD
I've been listening to metal for over 10 years and Babymetal became one of my favourite bands of all time !!! they are great, both the girls and the Kami Band are excellent at what they do, personally I love everything that Babymetal transmits.
I just saw your reaction to BxMxC, I loved it !! and still I dare to say you, you have a many things to discover, Babymetal are a genre by themselves, how are you realizing hehe
Well greetings from Mexico !! /o/

I actually looked up the lyrics and it's about a girl who wants to eat some chocolate but is worried about what it'll do to her figure
Ohmura San playing Mikio guitar 😔
You should have watched a performance from one of their own shows.
Anastasia, you really REALLY need to experience Galneryus and their song Angel of Salvation. They are a Japanese symphonic metal band and you said previously that you love symphonic metal. There are two versions available on YT a MV version and a live version, both are great but the live version is "Turned up to 11" Give them a try, they will probably become a new favorite band for you.
You should check on Road of Ressistance, great reactions I love you!
Glastonbury and BBC messed sound up but BabyMetal where still great Su only knows full speed and BabyMetal always give 100% in performance no matter size of venue. Stephen Colbert show did a better job when they sang GimmeChocolate on it . The musicians are known and well loved by the fans . Still can not belive you left venue before BabyMetal came on ☹ they won best live band twice probably not entered again because they would win it again . your friends owe you big time 🤘🦊🤘
Kami band on their own unmasked. Nowadays they have a western Kami band and eastern Kami band. This is one of the early varsion. They do have different musicians over the time. The guitar player on the stage right with the brown guitar is unfortunate dead, falling of a tower when stargazing. RIP Mikio. th-cam.com/video/PMJ2RkYkhAA/w-d-xo.html
On this show was Takayoshi Ohmura on the pink guitar on the left (was Mikio guitar) and Leda Cygnus on the white guitar on the right. Mikio died on January 5th 2018
Masked dudes are American kami band.
Please use the videos on the links below for your reactions. Thanks
From the Babymetal Reactor Resource th-cam.com/video/q40VmTHSh4c/w-d-xo.html
Going forward, if reactors want to keep reacting to the videos, I've come up with a solution that will make it possible to continue using the videos with logos that have already been tested against blocks.
I've made a spreadsheet - docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZYdthVAHYaOAYL6AuhVOHotQinMoPPFEuspqDMIIGD4/edit#gid=0
with links to both the logo videos and the non logo videos and are hosing them on a Russian social media site that won't remove them, and is out of the reach of the copyright trolls. There are a bit over 30 videos on there now, but I'll keep uploading more every day until they're all back up. I'll also be adding new videos that I'll test on an alt TH-cam account before adding to the spreadsheet.
If you can't access the spreadsheet for whatever reason, here are direct links to both the non logo videos and the videos with logos:
No logos - ok.ru/video/c6630874
With logos - ok.ru/video/c7184602
For reactors that want to put your own logo over the videos, here is a link to the logos I use that are already made transparent - drive.google.com/file/d/1JUVfJGp36xR2n1FHl7PzRIxXhA5P4VyW/viewor you can use whatever logo you'd like.
You can download the videos, which I recommend since the site can be a bit laggy sometimes, from this free website - sovid.net/ I recommend using the "HD" option when downloading to keep the file size reasonably small.
Although there are other videos on my channel there, only use the ones on the spreadsheet because some of the other non logo videos aren't TH-cam safe.
Kitsunes UP!

4:52 surprisingly Babymetal sounds a lot better most of the time, it's just Glastonbury, they are NOT used to giving metal music a good sound.
"they are NOT used to" 😅
@@DeePal072 good one, thanks. fixed.
Nice reaction. The sound wasn't very good for this feed. They missed the second bass drum too. Babymetal fans give plenty of praise to the Kamiband. I think it gets hard for reactors to talk a lot about them because there's so much to talk about. Feel like going to the gyn now. Try not to listen to Babymetal before going to bed. Doesn't work out to well. I think the avenger back up dancer with them is Riho. She released a solo pop album back in august. Way way way back in the day. Riho went to Actors School of Hiroshima (ASH) with Su-metal before Su was in Babymetal or Sakura Gakuin the jpop group where Babymetal got their start from. They may only be in their early 20's but they got a lot of history. Enjoy the rest of your journey through the Babymetal galaxy of music.

aaaaaannnd....since you mention Japanese rock/metal bands.... let me introduce you to.... BAND-MAID / REAL EXISTENCE (Official Live Video) th-cam.com/video/-qQnKILR5u0/w-d-xo.html
BABYMETAL - Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014,UK (OFFICIAL) th-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/w-d-xo.html
Glastonbury's sound is atrocious and we usually try to tell reactors to avoid that festival because of that. It's not a metal festival at all and the BBC seems to have butchered the sound there. I also believe one of the drum mic was off during the whole show.
It was a very last minute appearance aswell and everything may have been rushed on the technical side because the day before they were performing in Japan and then took a plane to the UK and performed there. But hey it's all good if you know that this isn't their "standard" sound xD.
This is not a rock/metal festival. This is Glastonbury, a pop festival with over 80,000 people, no mosh pits and wall of death. The mix is terrible that's why you can't hear the vocals properly, you have to see them in a rock festival where the mix is good and the crowd is responding insanely. This is the first time they perform in a pop festival, and they are not use to it .. I suggest watch Babymetal - "ijime, dame, zettai" live in UK Sonisphere ..
Are you married? If not, Im a UK guy who might be interested :)
Glastonbury treated BABYMETAL so badly. The crowd weren’t into BM as Glastonbury isn’t really a metal or rock festival. It’s usually dull pop and the sound was terrible. It’s almost as if Glastonbury deliberately ruined the sound.
Sonisphere in 2014 is better then this.
No, that's the worst version of this music. Lots of best shows.
BLAUGH 🤮
Your reaction was great and I am glad you enjoyed the song so much despite it being a very unusual pop festival and the BBC screwing up the sound quality immensely. There are a lot of better live performances out there and even the official mv with the studio audio is far better :). Every choreography has a deeper meaning and as Moametal said in an interview they always try to deliver the songs meaning to the audience with it, in case they don’t speak Japanese so that they are able to understand the meaning of the song. The best example is probably “4 No Uta” where you can see the number 4 everywhere in the dance performance. Looking forward to your next Babymetal reaction!
