A crazy fact about this show that wasn't revealed until years after it aired, Marc Summers actually has OCD, and yet he still managed to host one of the messiest shows at the time, himself even getting slimed or pied in the face at times too. Serious props to him for remaining such a great host during such a personal struggle.

Another fact revealed later was where they got the term “gak”. When they filmed in Philadelphia, it was the term for an illicit substance. They co-opted it for the slime-like mess, and got it past the censors. Source: NerdWire’s Double Dare video.

Technically this was family double dare, the original incarnation had two kids to a team. Slime was the green shit, gak was the stuff they sold at stores. It came in a little plastic container and you could make fart noises with it, which was awesome as a nineties kid. Also, space camp was one of the big prizes on the original run, which every kid in America wanted to go to. Great video, keep it up!!

YTV had a show (called You Can't Do That On Television!, IIRC) where green slime was poured on anyone who said "I don't know" (they even made that a themed episodic segment, "tricking" someone to say it tho was totally scripted)...tho they often broke that rule/slimed loads of people anyway

The 90s and early 2000s were amazing. Just enough technology to make life easier without it being all consuming. Kids shows didn't treat kids like idiots for the most part. Sure there were SOME bad days that a lot of people probably wouldn't want to go through again but all in all perfection.

We’re talking about a guy who hosted the messiest game show of all time, which occasionally involved getting pretty messy himself… and he did it all with a one dead wife away from turning into Monk-level of OCD. Seriously, look it up, he has OCD. You might even be able to find the footage of him straightening up his house to an insane degree.

There was literally ZERO Gak involved with Double Dare. The green liquid was referred to as Slime. It originated with the Canadian television show “You Can’t Do That On Television” which was aired on Nickelodeon. Gak was a “Slime” toy marketed by Nickelodeon. It was released at the beginning of the still running Slime toy fad. Known for making fart noises in their splat shaped plastic storage jars.

When i was a kid my dad had a 1990 ford escort rs. He passed it on to me when i got my drivers license and i drove it for 3 years before it blew the head gasket. I ened up junking it in 09 for a sweet $300, and bought my uncles 96 regal as a replacement... Im 34 now and deeply regret that decision, i should of rebuilt it knowing their somewhat of a unicorn these days. 😅 now i daily an 04 jaguar xjr and im holding on to that for the foreseeable future. Lol

Those early Panasonic Hi-Fi VCRs are really good machines. Built like a tank and the audio quality was superb.

When they briefly brought the show back in 2018, they also brought back the live tour. I got to meet Marc three times, one of them not at the show. Having grown up with both DD reruns and Unwrapped, it was a dream come true to meet the master of mess. And as a fan of the show, this video was pretty much accurate. :P
