I've never given it any thought. But now that you're talking about it- thinking back on how my energy levels change during a month, it all makes a lot of sense. I can stop giving myself a hard time now when I don't feel like doing intense workouts days before my period. Thanks for the information Crystal. It is so appreciated
I've definitely noticed this with my cycle and when I ignore it I get really burned out. I recently started participating in a research study on the impact of hormones and stages of the menstrual cycle on vascular flow and strength. There's definitely not enough research on this but I really appreciate you calling attention to the fact that we can't just train like men!
Thank you, Crystal! I am just at the beginning of my cycle journey but all the knowledge and tools I have implemented have had such a positive impact on my life. Please keep talking about these topics, more women should feel empowerment from their cycle.
You are SO welcome! I used to feel that way too and get angry at myself. But its all about self compassion and I am glad this information will help you cultivate that within yourself
I have been working my way through some of your book recommendations. I have learned so much. I am so happy I found your channel! This video was very relatable. Giving myself permission to take it easy or cut back on training during my pre-menstrual phase rather than being frustrated with myself for not being able to recover has made such a difference!
I follow a lot of fitness influencers and have friends who graduated in physical education but I never heard any of them with this approach. having a personal training or a physical educator aware of these facts would make a lot of difference!!! Loved this & really love your way of talking about all those things 💗
Yes, it is a very over looked aspect of fitness!! I think maybe it has to do with a few things, the biggest being there is a still such a taboo on talking about the menstrual cycle, many people don't want to and simply ignore it! I agree that it is so important to cycle sync workouts and I really think it's a big thing that will happen in the fitness world.. I just hope that is sooner rather than later! Thank you so much for the comment and watching.
Thanks Crystal :) such an interesting topic! I usually plan my workouts for the week on Sunday and I write what CD i'll be on for every day of the week. It makes planning much easier and also I try to not be mad at myself to switch things up if I don't feel doing what I've planned and take a break if I need one
I LOVE that! what a great way to stay organized but to also honour your cycle. Thank you so much for sharing Marie Pier. You are amazing and I think that tip will help others reading the comments
This is such a good video on this subject. Energy levels being linked to our menstrual cycle is not talked about enough in general, not to mention how to exercise during each phase, but this video made things so much clearer! Very well done! I find myself coming back to rewatch certain parts to refresh what I've learned from it too.
Thank you Crystal!!!! It is really useful all the information you shared and so easy to understand!! Great video for the women that we workout and coach!
Thank you! This was exactly what I was looking for to adapt my Strength training to my cycle, do you have any recommendations on how much time would be good to workout for women to not over do or over stress my body?
I truly appreciate the knowledge you shared. I get very weak the first 2-3 days depending on how well I’ve been eating. Walking has been my BFF during each time😂
Hi Crystal, love the video! I have a request... Can you make a video on the hymenectomy procedure for those who have a microperforate or imperforate hymen? I recently had to have that done and I had a hard time finding any information on it! I'm sure it would be really informative to certain people, as well as just sharing facts about the hymen to women in general who may have been taught myths. P.S. How do hormonal birth control pills affect working out? Do you have any videos on this?
Hi Crystal!! do you ever run on your period? i find it really hard to but also i love running and hate skipping sessions! this video made me realise i need to respect my cycle though and maybe take a rest if my body wants to✨ keep up the videos pleeeeease🥰💕
I run on my period but I'm more mindful about it - I'll go at a slower pace, rest more and consume higher iron plant foods etc. I wont push a run if my body truly needs to rest though. I also find I'm slower coming up to my period too.
No, never! I am not a huge runner anyways, so it is not my preferred method of exercise. I do suggest taking at least a day or two on your period to give yourself rest though. I believe it does make a difference in how we feel! Of course, walking and gentle exercise is always good too!
I really appreciate this video, as a beginner it really helps me understand more. I have the bellabeat cycle synced program, have you heard of it, what do you think?
So indeed the estrogen helps with muscle building. Best time for gains is before ovulation, interesting! Just heard from a male coach that women can train harder & recover faster than men due to estrogen...? Maybe you could do a video about "free bleeding" - I do not know what to think about the "miracles" this seems to promise... "Reduce period duration" "Less cramps when you dont take care of your "output" " What do you think about it?
Great question! Free bleeding (in my mind) is what happens when you don't wear anything internal like a tampon or menstrual cup. So wearing pads of period underwear would be free bleeding. I can't say that I have personally noticed a difference in period length, etc, but I have heard people say that they notice a difference in cramping when they switch from tampons to another period product like a cup. So I think it depends on individual experience!
I am on the pill as medication and so do feel the same more or less throughout the "cycle" because I don't have any... Only in the pause I am not able to do sports. Really important topic! Thanks for that video. Does this actual mean, that women on the pill are always decreased in strength and energy and recovery because they are in a constant luteal phase.?
That is a great question. It is hard for me to answer that without doing more research but I have come across studies that suggest being on hormonal birth control does affect muscle building so I imagine there are other effects as well.
@@CrystalKennings Really interesting, unfortunately I do not have time to do research on that on my own as well. Maybe some day :D at the moment I am busy with lots of other paper for my work. 😄
I have just seen a study (its from a few years ago) that showed those on hormonal birth control had trouble gaining muscle. I thought that was really interesting. I will have to do more research but yeah!
@@CrystalKennings Wonderful, thank you very much for your response. It really is interesting! I am looking forward to future sport related videos. It is really calming not to be putting too much pressure on myself thanks to knowledge about cycle! Thank you for sharing this kind of information, it is very valuable.
(this might be a silly question but since I never have been interested in taking birthcontrol I have never learned about it) but! Do these hormones still happen if your taking the bc pill? Or do girls on the pill get to avoid these issues ?
It depends on the type of birth control but essentially birth control contains synthetic hormones that suppress natural hormone production, so for that reason, no, people who take HBC do not experience cyclical fluctuations. Birth control can cause other issues though and I recently saw a study that suggested it can decrease ability to gain muscle, so that is interesting.
I've never given it any thought. But now that you're talking about it- thinking back on how my energy levels change during a month, it all makes a lot of sense. Perfect! Just picked up working out again!🎉❤ Thanks!
Thank you for this video, totally changes my perspective on my struggles when I just don’t want to workout.

Omg yesssssssssssssss 🙌🏻....teach us more and what you eat in a day too please ...I’ve been waiting for this 🌱🧘🏻♀️

Definitely plan to honor my body more starting this year. Great video!
Fascinating information and mind blown about ovulation being a time for potential injury. Good reminder to warm up before exercise.
Yeah, such a good reminder! thanks for watching Crystal :)
Friend: Can I lift you?
Me: Why?
Friend: I just feel so strong right now.
Me: Are you ovulating?
Friend: HOW DO YOU KNOOOWW!?

Wild how this video has so little views yet 50% of the population would benefit from it 😢
Aww that closing statement had me hand to heart ❤️
Thanks Sam

Thank you so much!
I do notice that I do like to do more of a relaxing yoga at the beginning of my cycle. Sometimes I just need a rest day lol. Great video
Thanks Mel! I feel the same way

walking is the best! Whatever keeps you moving (if you feel like moving that is haha)
Thank you, Crystal! Could you make a video on how to sync your diet with the cycle?
Absolutely!!
Thank you! This was extremely informative. I love learning the ways our cycle influences our lives. Keep it coming! 😊🙌🏼
