I remember my first wave flight, unintentional, in a 2-33 while instructing on Vancouver Island. We went through what must have been the rotor on the tow - that's great practice for anticipation on tow - and, at some point during the flight, all became calm and my VSI was saying UP. It took me a while to connect the unexpected dots and, eventually, my student and I were practicing S&L flight and gentle turns as we watched the lennie form off our wingtip. We got to about 10,000' - limits for air reg's and equipment. I loved it. My student had to pee. One of those magical moments riding air currents.
The glider I'm hoping to close on; it's model holds the previous world record at 50,720 ft. It was only beaten by 1,400ft by the Airbus Perlin project! Crazy! I hope I get to experience wave flying (but not that high! 😂) with the new-to-me glider!
