Ive been engineering my own music for over 13 years now. I guess I just stuck with some bad habits and became comfortable with them. I was getting great mixes but I was definitely overloading my CPU not utilizing Busses and Sends. The concept always kinda confused me so I just ignored it. Today I decided to crack down and really try to understand it and this was by far the best explanation Ive seen on youtube. Thank you so much for helping me grow as an engineer!
This is exactly why we do what we do! So happy to see that this training was helpful. This topic was one that we see a lot of engineers get stuck on or overwhelmed with. Proud of you sticking to it! Hope this makes your workflow 10x more efficient 🔥
I swear Im on this video cause of same thing Im 27 and been producing my own music my whole life and I kinda understand wat they are but I never mess Antoine with it because I was still getting great mixes but since I downloaded one of these templates on here now Im really interested just so I know and not be dumb about it 💯💪🏾
First things first, I finally learned how to bus because of this video so I really appreciate it. Second, the way I put it to help me understand ''sends'' is adding a bus on top of the original bus.
Honestly, I've been dabbling with other DAWs while somewhat avoiding Pro Tools over the years mainly due to what I called the tedious learning curve. I wasn't willing to invest the time even while understanding cross-referencing information really translates from one platform to another . I came across your channel and it has been a game changer for me. The Template alone is a valued time saver in and of itself. However, the recording track hack took things to the next level for sure. Much appreciated!!🔥❤🔥
Hi, came across your page and thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have been with PT for awhile, but never fully engaged so from time to time it is good to get a refresher. Thank you for clarifying Buses, sends and Aux, I got it. Julio Matta - The Julio Matta Project
Can I ask a question? What if I just want to change the EQ of LEAD A and not the LEAD B? do I need to duplicate the compressor? I mean by dragging down another compressor for the LEAD A? or is there any way to do that in just one BUS?
Thank you so much, i still dont understand how to listen only the bus signal, is very confusing, if i solo a bus track cant hear nothing even if the meter is peaking, crazy stuff
Cool info very useful, but why does Avid not allow you to solo those Aux tracks? So you can hear just the wet Aux signal not the incoming Dry track, Logic makes this very easy
@@MyAudioAcademy For me, I would like to see the video about Pro Tools and USB mics: ways to connect, settings information, etc. There is currently not even one video on TH-cam covering this topic correctly so maybe you can be the one?
I appreciate the feedback my man! I'm glad to hear this was helpful. I struggled with these concepts longer than I'd like to admit 😅 so hopefully this saved you some of that time!
Hi everyone!! I always had been a question about that, i understand that use a lot of plugins to each track is so heavy and obiously for this reason we use a buses, but for example in this case if considered to change different specific parameters of each plugin to modelating a better signal in each track i needed necesary use the automation or it will be a mistake? Or which could be the best way to do that, thanks a lot.
This cleared things up a lot. I have one question though. Say I don’t want as much reverb and delay on the verse as I do on the hook, how would I go about effecting that differently? Would I have to make another aux track?
Yes 🎯 That would be the easiest way to do it! Just be sure to update your input to a new unused Bus Track (ex: Bus 2-3, 3-4). Then route relevant audio tracks to this new "Hook"/"Verse" bus.
so the send tracks (both the reverb send and parallel compression send) are going out directly to master bus? what happened if we output them back to the vocal bus? do you do that in some scenario?
So I’ve been sending my lead vocals and lead hook to a mono bus then bus that bus to a main vox stereo bus. I insert my hardware that is mono on the mono lead bus and plugins on the main vox stereo bus.. If that makes since is that a correct way of doing it? I feel like it’s wrong but it works..
are aux's parallel channels, that is where the audio is copied through it? Or is it receiving the actual signals from tracks bussed to it? So that it controls all the audio signal like a master fader would?
Hey, your tutorials are great, no doubt but I had a question that what would be the difference between routing folders and aux input then? Because both work in almost same fashion, right?
Hey man super great video! Quick question on your gear you have, what kind of control surface do you use for pro tools? Looking at an actual hands on system but I know nothing about the actual consoles themselves that are compatible with pro tools! Appreciate it!
Excellent video. I'm a bit new to some of the terminology and your explanation cleared up a lot of questions that I had. However, I do have a question for you. In your demo you have 3 vocal tracks and you created a bus track, then moved all the plugins to the bus track. What if you wanted to boost the highs on one of those vocal tracks instead of all 3. wouldn't you still need to have an EQ for example on one of the vocals to do this?
Excited to hear this cleared some things up for you, as these concepts can easily get confusing 😅 In that case, yes, you would just add the EQ to that single audio track 👍
when I solo my guitar aux track I can still hear the reverb from my vocals which are all routed through the same Bus Aux...what am I doing wrong??? I feel that it is muddying my mix.
Here’s a video that would be helpful! th-cam.com/video/hFwhMPUM9bc/w-d-xo.html You may want to check out the “Radio Ready Vocals” training in the description for an in depth training + Pre made templates and other bonuses.
Thank you for this video Jordan, I've been a musician for a long time, but very new to recording myself and I appreciate this easy-to-understand videos. I have a question, do you record on clean tracks (no plugins) or do you use all sends/auxs/plugins while recording? Thanks in advance!

What’s the difference between having Autotune on the track vs the vocal bus? Also, does adjusting the reverb send on the vocal bus do the same thing as adjusting on the actual reverb aux track like you did?
1. Auto tune on the vocal bus means your auto tune will try to tune multiple vocal signals at once. This can sometimes be problematic. 2. In basic terms, yes. We could get super technical about the differences, but they ultimately get you the same result 😎 Hope this helps!
@@MyAudioAcademy Thank you! I guess it’s good to have the autotune on the track instead also in case it’s not needed on the bus for a specific song. Avoids touching the vocal bus much 🙏 Lastly, does it matter where the reverb/delay sends go? On the tracks or vocal bus?
@@MyAudioAcademy I just checked by dragging a mono plug in from the vocal track to the send and it doesn't automatically change from mono to stereo so I'm assuming you just dragged them over like that for demonstration purposes and wouldn't ACTUALLY drag them and instead just pull up the stereo version from inside the aux track
This didn't work for me. I wanted to put fab filter on certain parts of my instrumental. I wanted to automate it. My workaround? Also simple. Just duplicate the track and add the fab filter to one of the tracks then either touch, write or even delete parts of the track that didn't have the filter. I think with this style you made, it blends in with the track almost like parallel compression. I didn't want that. In Reason or FL or maybe even Logic, I can actually automate the VST by right clicking and creating an automation lane. That's how I do filtering.
