I like to do baby blankets at 36” wide x 42” tall, but you can do any size you want. I just use a ruler and measure the height instead of trying to count rows.

For example, if your hook size, yarn size, and tension has you crocheting 6 stitches per inch wide and you wanted to make the blanket 36” wide, your starting chain would be 216 stitches. (She also notes that you should work with an even number of chains for *this particular pattern/stitch*, so you’d also have to take that into account.) For rows: You can math for those too if you want. If your swatch has, say, 5 rows per inch tall and you wanted to make enough rows to equal 42 inches tall, then 5x42=210 rows. But like I said before, I’d just measure for the height I want rather than count rows. (Sorry for the all the mathing! She notes a range of chain numbers in the video-120 is just the minimum she notes. But if you want to make this blanky to a precise size, you’d want to make the swatch and do the math before you begin.)

Hi, Im doing a small lap blanket in Malabrigo Rios its a 10 Ply Worsted yarn but knits up in either DK or Worsted depending on needle size. Knit Gauge: 18.0 to 22.0 sts = 4 inches Needle Size: US 6 - 8 or 4 - 5mm and Hook Size: US I-9 to K-10/12 or 5.5-6.5 mm. Ive seen some examples using #3 Yarn and a size 6 hook to get nice drape with the Moss stitch i.e.not too tight, but not loose either.. So with the Malabrigo should I go up to a size 7mm hook?
I’m confused about how you end the rows. It seemed on one row you simply did a single crochet into the end of last row, but the next time you did a chain stitch and single crochet. Can you please clarify. Do you alternate how you finish rows? Thanks
I notice that too. That shows how closely we pay attention. First row is foundation row 2nd row and every even numbered row there after you end the row with 2 SC. Odd rows at the end you will SC, chain one, skip the chain space end with SC.. Repeat rows 2 and 3.
It really depends on the size you want to make. Just make sure you use an even number with this specific pattern. Depending on your hook size, 226 would get you between a twin and queen size probably. Take a look at this chart - thecrochetcrowd.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Chain-Counts-for-Afghans.pdf
You could always lay your chain on a bed about the size you want to make it for then chain that many chains as long as it meets the directions for project.
I watch another video on the moss stitch and it was done differently. They used single and half double stitches alternating. Is your stitch really another way to do the same?

I've tried doing this type of blanket three times and can't take the cutting of yarns at end of changing color rows. Even when tucking in as you go it's just too many loose ends.
I’m not sure of the yards. But measurements for baby blankets are given within the video x You may like to get 3 x100g ball of yarns of each colour and check the length after you have finished one ball of each colour… measure the length and then multiply that length by 3. X

It’s like I can see it on some but not the whole line and I’m losing it as I’m going :(. Sorry I don’t know crochet lingo very well still 😂 only been doing it for 7 months
@@brookejeffers16 I would suggest for you to use stitch markers/ scrap yarn/ paper clips. Or whatever you have at home. For the first row. From there it becomes clearer. Hope that helps x

How do you keep the gaps from being too big? Just pull the yarn tight or?

This is a very dense stitch. Is there a variation that loosens it up a bit? Maybe a double crochet or half dc? I'm not sure. :-\
Some people use a Double crochet stitch instead of a single but I think if you go up a hook size or 2, it will drape more and not be so dense🤷♀️
