- a BTF film , showing the extensive overhauling of the London bus fleet.
London Transport's Aldenham bus depot in Elstree, Hertfordshire was the most comprehensive bus overhaul operation in the world. Opened in 1956, it featured in the Cliff Richard film Summer Holiday. It closed in November 1986 and the buildings were demolished in 1996. I alway thought that the Aldenham depot was much older than 1956.
As a life long bus man this is exactly the same process undertaken in Birmingham at Tyburn Road works until it closed, I was the last person working there
So you worked there metal man 👍👍

You should see the state of TFLs buses these days , blue smoke black smoke absolute stinking wrecks
You did one similar to this about 2 years ago didn't you Jack. My son and daughter. In law travel on the new buses, around where we live it's if you see a bus it is lost. We live in a rural area, our son in law comes on his tractor every now and again 1972 Leyland. Which if you put a trailer on could be bus service😀 Thank you Jack for a good film, hope you and Lady F are doing ok keep warm in the cold weather. All the best Rob.
I might have done Rob but some got mixed up with the BFI films late last year and got taken down by mistake, I'm sure I haven't posted this one before though. Yes it's cold here in London too but I hear it's getting milder tomorrow 👍
I'm astounded that this operation was so sophisticated and HUGE. Then to read in the Comments there was another similar operation going on in the central districts as well.
Thanks for posting this Jack, a real eye opener.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
