Both bands are great for their style. A lot of LSU Band members respect SU’s band and entertainment. I think we should realize that the 2 best bands in their particular styles are both from Baton Rouge! Geaux Tigers and Go Jags!
I'm from Louisiana and I'm just so proud of all the Louisiana monsters. SU, LSU, Grambling, Noasb, OPW, Karr, St. Aug, Southern Lab, and all the other bands that hold it down for the state.
Its because the bands are mainly people that were raised in the N.O. metro area or baton rouge. Its a melting pot of different walks of life that you grow with living here. Musicians respect each other, no matter the color of your skin.
I heard the LSU band playing this right before their game against South Carolina so college football 🏈 honestly brought me here to listen 🎶 to this & is sooo 🔥🔥🔥every single one of these band members from both schools should be proud as FUCK!!!
Two distinct styles and sounds. I love both of them. LSU has always been one my favorite PWI bands, and SU's history of dominance speaks for itself. And please dont come on here with that "all hbcus do is play loud" crap because not every HBCU band plays this way. We just like to put air through our horns in the SWAC :)
HBCUs just have a different sound. May not sound like the recording but man it’s a special sound. Been watching a lot of marching band videos lately and FAMU and Southern have an amazing vibe with them
Totally agree except those northerners also can’t compare to southerns sound. One thing is for sure, tiger band and the human jukebox make Louisiana have something to pride over!
Different sryles. Both are great. In the New Orleans metro area, we have both styles and they respect each other. Im sure some of those members come from that area. As a high school drummer in a marching band, I challenged every drummer that I could. Its apart of our culture down here to show out, but still respect the opposition.
The scheduled game between the 2 schools is 2022 in Tiger stadium...its a regular season. Im already there.😂 I attended both schools but I bleed Blue & Gold!!!
Both bands sound good the main difference I can hear is that SU shoe cases their tubas more, while LSU tubas are being overtaken by the band however they resurge toward the end. The other difference is that SU sounds more soulful when playing but you can definitely see that both bands are having fun while playing
The thing is, each time the opposition plays a song, everyone in the band tries to figure out wat they do wrong. I know this because I am in a band myself
I’m a 51 yr old white guy and Southern’s version kicks f-in ass.. gives me chills.. I always had killer lungs playing trumpet.. just not great range like these guys
Both sound good arrangements are totally different SU you can hear every instrument while they play with power LSU has over 30 tubas and can barley hear them.

@@Exceptional555 I would say it’s not a comparison. Having heard both bands live at the same time there is no comparison possible. Further than that you can’t really fairly say much else comparison wise. They’re just two insanely good marching bands
Both bands and crew are talented. LSU sounds just like the original and the dance has great precision. Southern has their own style and made it their own.
my high school band is modeled after southern’s band. my sister, who played in the band, used to bring home tapes of southern’s band. i find lsu’s version much more melodic. lsu might be the best band in college football right now.
I rather LSU’s. It’s more heavy and I much rather that over not being able to hear the band when the trumpets play. Just an opinion tho, both are great
You can't compare because 1 LSU is in a block U facing each other and SU is in a square block facing forward. LSU is on the ground and SU is in the stadium. Then you need to record with the same mic system. If you want to compare put them both in the same position and use the same equipment. Plus they are not playing the same arrangement. Anyone who knows music will tell you that. But as a LSU fan I still don't think anyone can blow louder than SU but that is just my opinion. I LOVE both bands.
It's so rare that I prefer a PWI's arrangement to an HBCU's...but then again it was probably some brothers putting it together for LSU. Both had great arrangements, it was just LSU's drumline that took the cake.
While I appreciate the incredible talent of Southern's band, their version was in a higher octave than the actual song and lacked the drums that really drives the song home for me. It just sounded like everyone was trying to see how loud they could play their instrument. I liked LSU's version much better this time.
Actually SU's range is perfectly constructed and used at the right time, Simmons makes sure of that. It's just soulful thats all, they still the best band inna land 🐆
Quintus Jones but for real this was a murder I would love to see both bands battle it out now. so pwi can see how truly gifted SU really is “often imitated but never duplicated”
