Happy 25th anniversary, System Shock 2! A million thanks to all the talented people who worked on the game.

Whoa, that's perfectly acceptable! I have a P3 533EB and an MX200 32MB card in my retro build which I'm hoping to get up and running at some point. I can't remember what I had back in the day when this game came out, but good to know that a 500Mhz CPU will do nicely :)

I know it's not the main feature of this video, but I love the drum and bass part of the soundtrack (14:30). What drivers (date or version) were you using for the Sound Blaster Live!

I’m fairly certain that I used the VXD 4.06.654 (July 1999) drivers CD (that is archived on VOGONS Vintage Driver Library) for my System Shock 2 footage. Somewhere in the Liveware 2.0 region, basically. I tend to always pick and install drivers that existed right before a game’s gold master or release date before I start capturing. [Well, there have been exceptions to that rule - like when I used the PowerVR PCX2 for Ultimate Race or the Aureal 1185 reference drivers (from January 1999) I used for Thief: The Dark Project retail version - but I try to always use any period-correct drivers when they are available]

Impressive since most fully 3d pc games in 1999 are kinda dogshit. Didn't know it was the 25th, I actually finished playing it for the first time this year.

I mean, I can understand your view. There isn’t exactly a *ton* of really noteworthy 3D Windows games from ‘99 compared to say ‘98 or 2000. Mostly some interesting nuggets like Outcast, Requiem: Avenging Angel, Nocturne and SWAT 3 (etc.). Sure, there are good sequels like BattleZone 2, Might & Magic VII and Dungeon Keeper 2 but they aren’t really THAT different from their predecessors. Of course you have the big multiplayer-/botmatch-centric titles of that year like UT and Quake 3. Most of the rest are either OK or fairly derivative stuff (Lego Racers = Mario Kart 64, Rayman 2 = Super Mario 64 and so on LOL).
