I have a 2000 Toyota Celica GT with the 1ZZ-FE. It uses about a quart of oil for every 100 miles (I just bought the car and the kid swore up and down it was in great shape). Question on those few hoses connected to the throttle body. Which one connects to the intake manifold and where is it coming from? And the other 2, which one is the incoming water hose and return one?
I honestly don’t know. I marked all my hoses, took pics, and vids so I don’t have to think when I put it back together. I recommend consulting the Bible (OE service manual) if u really want to know what these lines are for.
1zzfe? In an mr2? Was it swapped? All the one's I've worked on were 1zzfed motors.. The D had forged rods and a forged crank. Edit.. How fun was it to pull the motor? Is it like the old mr where you lift the body over the cradle?
I bought the car w a blown motor and swapped it. I identified it as a Canadian 1ZZFE in another video. Pulling the motor is simple: 4 jacks stands and the motor drops down and out.

Good question. The valve spring tool I bought didn't work. I guess I didn't think I would need to replace those. So now I am doing k swap, waiting months and months and months for parts through MAP. I kind of want to get refund wait is ridiculous

I really want to keep it 1zz but the k is proven in power and reliability and aftermarket products. So in a way I'm a little sad because 1zz turbo is capable but I'm not convinced of the reliability. But either way these cars are so much fun and way underrated
Need a bit of help from anyone who happens by: I'm also trying to source a '03 or later 1ZZ for my 2001 (engine blew), but they're rare. Those that I do find have no specific year listed; however, the heatshield design appears different. My exhaust manifold has two 02 sensors sticking out of the exhaust manifold in a V shape, while most every 1ZZ I find online, even those listed as being for an MR2 specifically, has a different heatshield design with a single 02 sensor sticking straight up from the exhaust manifold. Was this part of the 03 and later redesign that fixed the oil consumption issue? Or are these motors from other vehicles and just mislabeled?
I’m not an expert w all the different 1ZZs, but I believe all the 1ZZs have VIN plates on them and you can search them on the internet. That’s how I know I have a 2003 Matrix 1ZZ built in Canada. I’m sure w a lil research you can figure out the details of the different 1ZZs. @@RelentlessRacingAJ Much appreciated, brother. Did some more research. The plate in question is down near the flywheel. Makes the retailers on eBay seem pretty sketchy for not disclosing what year the motor is they're selling. And I figured out the heatshield thing. @@RelentlessRacingAJ AJ- WOW. You were dead on! I never thought a bolt that measured 11.04 mm in diameter would be considered M12. I think the word "nominal" comes into play when talking fastener sizes. Used 2 - M12 x 1.25 pitch x 100mm bolts. Worked perfect. Thanks!

Hello friend, good video, one question. What was wrong with that engine?
I blew the head gasket. Someone else commented you can do the head gasket while the motor is in the car. I am aware of this fact, but I wanted to do a full rebuild for content. Hope you enjoy the channel. Pls subscribe. Thx AJ
I have a 2000 Toyota Celica GT with the 1ZZ-FE. It uses about a quart of oil for every 100 miles (I just bought the car and the kid swore up and down it was in great shape). I was considering trying to do the rings and whatever else I can do. Do you think a 50 year old guy with little mechanical skill could learn and accomplish this? Basically, if I can't fix it, I'm going to lose a ton of money. Thanks.
I believe if you set your mind to it, you can do anything. Buy or download the factory service manual and follow the instructions. You got this. Thx for commenting and watching. Pls subscribe. -AJ

Thank you
Welcome. Pls check out the rebuild vids too. Also, pls subscribe. Thx AJ
1zzfe?
@@RelentlessRacingAJ Years ago i did a clutch on the SW20 and man did that suck.. I just remember that week thinking, i should have brought it somewhere... lol
I did my head gasket in the car but it needed new valve seals and I didn't do them then. Put it back together, burns oil.
Thx for watching and pls subscribe. Wow that seems like it would be very challenging. How bad was it? Also, why didn’t u do a complete rebuild of the head when it was out?
Good question. The valve spring tool I bought didn't work. I guess I didn't think I would need to replace those. So now I am doing k swap, waiting months and months and months for parts through MAP. I kind of want to get refund wait is ridiculous
I think it has other problems too. Poor 1zz.
@@supers0nic77 as I mentioned in the vid, I’m doin a Kswap as well. Waiting on custom rods from CP. In the meantime. I want to get her running again, but I’m struggling w my OCD. After finding the scoring in cyl 4, I want bore it out to 79.5 and install new pistons, but I kno this will take money away from my k swap.
I really want to keep it 1zz but the k is proven in power and reliability and aftermarket products. So in a way I'm a little sad because 1zz turbo is capable but I'm not convinced of the reliability. But either way these cars are so much fun and way underrated
where can you find the double hex bit for
the cylinder head please

Here’s a post from the Facebook group MR2 Spyder with some helpful comments facebook.com/groups/ToyotaMR2Spyder/permalink/10159035830323612/

@@RelentlessRacingAJ Much appreciated, brother.
Did some more research. The plate in question is down near the flywheel. Makes the retailers on eBay seem pretty sketchy for not disclosing what year the motor is they're selling. And I figured out the heatshield thing. JDM 1ZZs used a different exhaust system, so they had a different manifold and heatshield.
hi AJ can you tell hou to get a litte moor hp to my 1zz 2001?
Is this the same engine that a 98 coralla has?
Yup… all the 1ZZs are very similar. U may see different throttle and fuel rail configurations, but the bottom end and cylinder heads are nearly identical. Pls subscribe. Thx AJ
Where did you get the bolts to engine to stand ? or length
McMaster has everything u will ever need. I’m sure u can get them elsewhere cheaper but the selection at McMaster is 2nd to none. Pls subscribe. Thx AJ
@@RelentlessRacingAJ AJ- I just measured mine and it looks like the top 2 are M11 x 1.25. For my stand, i'll need 100mm. Couldn't find any on McMaster. Wonder why Toyota settled on M11 for that application?
@@markmartin6856 what? Which specific bolts are you referring to? I don’t believe Toyota uses an M11 bolt anywhere.
@@markmartin6856 I just read ur original comment the those are M12
@@RelentlessRacingAJ AJ- WOW. You were dead on! I never thought a bolt that measured 11.04 mm in diameter would be considered M12. I think the word "nominal" comes into play when talking fastener sizes. Used 2 - M12 x 1.25 pitch x 100mm bolts. Worked perfect. Thanks!
Well this work with the 1zz nun vvti
TBH, I have never worked on a 1ZZ non-VVTI engine, but they are all pretty much the same. I suggest ordering the OE service manual and following it closely... Toyota service manuals are filled with step by step instructions and excellent detail.
how many km on this 1zzfe
Thx for watching and commenting on my video. I bought the this motor from a friend who 2ZZ swapped his MR2 Spyder so I don't know how many km's were on it when I got it. Although, I do know it is from a Canadian 2003 Matrix based on the VIN tag on the block. Pls subscribe for more MR2 Spyder content. Thx again, AJ

Can a 1zz withstand 300hp?
Yes, but it will be quite the financial investment… sleeves, forged pistons & rods, etc. I would recommend a k swap instead for reliability and much more bang for your buck. Pls subscribe for more MRS content. Thx AJ
