I use to live in Portreath, moved there in the late 70’s and went to there primary school, that took me back watching the waves come over the pepper pot. Great memories 👍
I live in Ireland and the wind was so strong my sprinter moved forward about 10 feet up the garden. Living here nearly 40 years and I never experienced anything like it. I’ve never seen so many trees blown down and there are still people without electricity. I typically love a good storm but genuinely so glad I wasnt out in that one. It was no joke. You’re lucky you were only in a yellow zone
Great video, the anticipation when you turn the ignition on the following morning.... I'm holding my breath for you ....😂 Hope you get to the bottom of the issue with the heater. Brighter days ahead 👍
2 common issues with the max fan are the circuitboard isn't water resistant (this and be fixed by covering the ports/pins and spraying confirmative spray all over the board and components) and also it is sensitive to voltage and requires a consistent 12v (leisure batteries vary but a 6-20v to 12v buck regulator can ensure nothing gets fried or over volted) it could also be something on one of the ports (one looks like a phone socket and the other a network socket) has got shorted meaning the fan is getting a constant signal. The ports are for button pads you can place around the van but the button pads are switches that run along the cable to the fan effectively like pushing a button on the fan. Sorry for the wordy reply, hope it helps somehow
Thanks for taking us to deepest Cornwall during the storm - I've been wondering how badly hit it was as my mum's phone line's been down since then - could be another tractor took a telegraph pole out (that was the problem last time!). It didn't look too bad - Ireland took the brunt of the storm from what I've heard Good luck getting your diesel heater repaired - sounds like the controller might be 'end of life'. Can you get support from the manufacturer on the fan - they are expensive enough to have protection from spikes and surges ...
Yes that would make sense,it's recovering the lost volts from the leisure battery. Maybe something like a disconnection off both batteries for a full power down if everything checks out.
Hi Shaun great storm chasing video. I get the feeling that every time you go to start the van up when its been sitting for a while the look on your face suggests that it may not start! 😂 Keep up the good work.
I’m a little worried at the moment that maybe the van battery is getting drained due to the problems with the bolts in the leisure battery. One of my tests recently was to disconnect my leisure battery and I started the engine and the TV standby light came on in the back of the van. Which meant the van battery took over powering everything. Very strange
Ah Mawgan Porth! Stayed there in a holiday apartment right up on the cliff top there in 2008. Lovely little place. Good memories of that holiday and the trips out, especially Port Issac 😊
Hope you are able to get the night heater working. It might need to be stripped down and cleaned as they do get a build up, and Sometimes a control module burns out stopping it starting, They are less than 20 quid on eBay for a new one. Funny with the fan not working properly. Maybe been a spike/surge in the circuit and its damaged the switch. Some good FB groups on the Chinese night heaters that should have the answer
I’m on the group and they’ve said they don’t think it’s the ground. They’ve said it’s probably the wires from the controller. I’ve got lots of things to test I think.
We do a yearly camp at Trevarrien Camp site and it's just up the road from Mawgan Porth. Absolutely ❤ that place!! Merrymoor Inn does great food as well. Catch is a bit more posh dining.
Google results for Diesal heater fault A "3 dashes" code on a diesel heater typically indicates a faulty glow plug, meaning the heater is having trouble igniting the fuel due to a malfunctioning glow plug that isn't heating up the combustion chamber enough to start properly; this is often seen as an "E3" error code on many diesel heater displays. Key points about the "3 dashes" or "E3" code:

Nature at it's finest, I love parking up in my van for an over night stay on a seafront with the sound of waves crashing all night, I never tire of it. And before I get all the comments about sea salt rotting my van.....I couldn't care less at my age.
On the diesel heater I would do a hard reset and I would check to make sure you're grounding points at your battery to make sure that you've got a good grounding point because you are near the sea all the time you may have salt corrosion somewhere along the line and your fan I would do a full reset on it if you can read the instructions it'll tell you how to do reset I hope that helps
I think you've a slightly frayed wire heading back to your diesel heater from your power source. Any sort of split or fraying or break in connection will cause the diesel heater to drop off. Check connections at each end (behind protective coverings) and make sure there's absolutely no splits anywhere. They need a 100% connection to work. I also suspect the fan and heater problems are not related and that the fa has just gone AWOL 😂.
Do you have a regulated 12v supply to the Maxxfan..? You may have damaged the circuit board while charging at over 14v depending on what that charger puts out.
There is a thin black wire not connected in between little black box and gray box the wire is furthest right. In the boot.lets hope John from dudley can't wait to get down Cornwall again we go to westweylands just up from Looe me and my wife love it all the best with the electrics , you can turn a logburner up and down just like a diesel heater
Thanks for noticing. It’s not connected because I unplugged all the charge controllers to see if I could trace the route of the problem. It was intentionally unplugged
Morning Shaun. Sound like you got an electrical problem mate 😂 (stating the obvious 😂) I had one of those ekster card holders and they are very good. The waves where pretty good wasn’t they, Penzance was pretty impressive as well our place had a good wash with the sea water 😂😂
@@LoveSundays As its all DC that's the first obvious setting (may be labelled DCV on the dial/modes), set the range to at least as many volts as you are using (so as its a 12v system 20v is the likely closest range on the meter) then just stick the probes across a battery and you should read that voltage. a bad ground or a damaged positive line would mean you get less volts at the device, too low and that'll be tripping the safety features (like your green emergency LED on the ceiling light).
Oh i meant to say once you measure at the device, you then measure but but by running a ground wire from the battery up to where you are working near the device. if you still have low volts, the problem is the positive lead (as you've removed the original ground from the equation) and if its good volts with the new ground, you have a bad ground at the device.
You mentioned the when driving it felt like the drivers window was being pulled, and couldn't work out where the air was getting into the van. Was it through the fan where you had to pull the fuse and it didn't close?
The heater control unit has a open circuit causing your fan to engage and giving you fault readings on the display of the night heater. Get new night heater display lad

Disconnect the whole heater from the van. Try to run it completely independent from the van. Then try and see if the fan is working correctly
