1/ A tip for beginners is to check if your audio interface/ mixer/ recorder has good reviews with dynamic mics and SM7B. Because if your interface has good clean gain this removes the need for additional inline pre-amp like CloudLifter. A lot of guides written (or copy pasted from) in the 2010s advice to buy this, but you can just ensure you purchase gear that is sufficiently good, which today is readily available, and you don’t need this. One less component to worry about. Not saying she’s bought it in vain, but if she started out in the days when all prosumer gear had crap gain, she deals with a problem people starting out today don’t need to deal with.
2/ Personally I’m all for dynamics when it comes to recording speech, but SM7B is a very particular mic - to my ears it doesn’t sound very nice straight out of the box. It kind of assumes you do post processing to get it nice. Most other mics sounds nicer out of the box, but doesn’t necessarily fit all voices. Shure SM57 is a very cheap alternative to SM7B that has successfully mic’ed several US presidents, guitars and what not - saves you a bunch of money in a beginner kit and is easy to use. SM7B is a bit overrated, both price and sound profile is more for the pros.

The curse of knowing audio setups: knowing you could do better but literally needing somewhere else to do it _right_

I also hate how $100+ headsets have very bad mic :(
yet a couple of my friends use a $5-10 mic and they sound like a podcast

The headset company wants you to buy a separate mic.

If you play pretty close to your setup you could always get some good audiophile headphones with a dac and amp while using a usb mic. It will cost more but if you care a lot about sound then I guess it's worth.

I use 600 dollar headphones with a bugha mic (like 10 bucks) just to screw with my friends and it sounds horrific
