PUDDLED RICE IS A CURSE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE FARMER.
Dear farmer friends, Sat Sri Akaal.
This is my humble request for the betterment of agriculture and Punjab.
Try this method in one kanal of heavy or medium textured soil and see the amazing results for yourself. You will come to know that sowing of paddy in puddled field is a self destructive practice.
The practice of puddling has been taught and preached to us since ages but we have not been told about it's ill effects.
The method is given below-
Plough well 1 kanal of land and broadcast 5 kg DAP or 12:32:16 or 10kg Single Super Phosphate, 1.5 kg Zinc and 2.5 kg crushed mustard cake. This follows heavy planking twice in order to prepare the filed for sowing. Irrigate the field and broadcast 850 grams to 1 kg sprouted seed pre treated with bio fertilisers and Trychoderma.
On the first day the irrigation should be light. On this day or the next day's evening broadcast 20 grams of sathi weedicide uniformally. Keep this land very well moist/irrigated for the next 10 days. Thereafter irrigate the field on alternate days for the next 15 days. After 1 month irrigate the field once a week. Doing so, the roots of paddy plant will go deeper in search of water.
This will initiate the movement of earthworms. They will come on the upper surface and will start reproducing. Earthworms eat soil and convert it into vermicompost which is a bio fertilizer. This will make the soil so porous, airy and fertile that a large part of irrigation water will leach down. It will also act as rainwater harvesting field. Due to the activity of earthworms, the field will become more fertile and we will not have to use chemical fertilizers.
In this way a farmer can save thousands and the government can save millions' worth of foreign currency used for the import of chemical fertilizers.
The rain water harvesting nature of field will help in raising the water table which will help in getting rid of high powered submersible pumps and will re-introduce less powered suction pumpsets.
The loss of power corporation will reduce from crores to lakhs. We all are deprived of these numerous benefits just because of the culprit puddling which we do for the transplantation of paddy.
In this way we will get rid of puddling. This method enhances the yield upto 50 to 70 kg per kanal, which means 4 to 5 quintals per acre besides many more advantages.
Please try to do it in one kanal. If possible, try on a larger area.
I request the farmers to show this paddy to the concerned Agricultural Officers, Chief Agricultural Officers, KVK officials and political leaders so that we can get rid of the culprit puddling. In this way we will be able to provide clean water, soil and air to the generations to come.
