- The last of a 3 part series on INDBATT-II (7 Garhwal Rifles Infantry Battalion) in South Sudan. SNI Associate Editor Amitabh P Revi and Video Journalist Prateek Suri bring you this video report on how the Indian Army's United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) battalions are a crucial part in the effort for peace in the world's youngest country. An estimated 400,000 people have been killed and over 4 million have been forced from their homes since 2013. The UN's blue helmets are tasked with the protection of civilians and on the ground are assuring people of security to return home. They also have a major impact on local communities with their medical and vet services and are contributing in the fields of education and hygiene as well as lighting up streets and homes.
SNI's team brings you this on-the-field experience of how the Indian Army operates in peacekeeping operations abroad and the impact they're having in the fragile peace process in South Sudan. From the Command and Control Centre to the Ghatak commandos and Infantry Combat Vehicle (ICV) operations to a football match, a tug of war and the much enjoyed Bara Khaana, here's a peek into how India's soldiers fight and even die in foreign lands for peace.

Indian peacekeepers a few years back actually saved the chinese peacekeepers(if you can call them them that). The chinese refused to save the lives of other UN workers and holed themselves inside a building as terrorists laid seige.
The INDBAT platoon came in resolutely destroyed the terrorists, saved the workers and the chinese who refused to even move from their stronghold to even defend themselves let alone others.

I only want to say one thing - the guns should be upgraded for them please, offer them M416 and M4 Carbine, they'll be more stronger.
INSAS rifle is an Indian made rifle, & as an Indian INSAS is a symbol of pride.
This Rifle is serving Indian army since 1995 & gave good results in combat.
Indian engineers r working to upgrade INSAS.
Ak 203 has now been ordered as a replacement.

Nice documentary ..couldn't help but notice the firearms the soldiers are carrying ..I mean you are going to fight an enemy in their own terrain carrying an Ak and the enemy is heavily equipped ...the people of south Sudan are the most fierce fighters I've ever known
Its not an AK. Its an INSAS which is even worse. Indian troops are pretty under-equipped that way. Good news is that SIG 716s and AK203s are on their way. These INSAS rifles should be replaced by 2019 end.
