Listening now. So glad to get another COF interview.
Man, its soo good to see James and to hear his new band. Hes such a nice person! Hope that soon we will hear some more about Paul's new project too. And god, i just still cannot accept the fact that Stuart is gone
Well done! I met him at Ozzfest during a meet and great and then was able to chat with him a bit more as he was walking for a few minutes. Great guy! 🤘🏻
Thx brother yes he’s a good bloke. Hopefully it’s the start of us doing more episodes talking metal
Thanks :)
Thank you for doing these. I'm a huge cradle of Filth mark, and these are extremely interesting to me. Again, thank you, sir.
Great interview
It's incredible how many points he raises'
we all whom appreciate these subject matters have in common
Same things jump out across the board'
Great interview as always !
Wow, looking forward to this. watching now, cheers and thank you!
I've always loved Nymphetamine, Thorn, Darkly... I've always greatly appreciated James's work in Cradle. Darkly does indeed seem to be a forgotten album, but I listen to it as often as any other. I really like it
"YOU'RE WRONG, YOU GOT YOUR TIME LINE OF JAMES' TENURE IN THE BAND INCORRECT😠"
2003 Damnation and a Day was released, they were a 5 member piece for that album. That year they head-lined second stage American OZZFEST, I was there. I saw James as second guitar player, not knowing who he is. Just surprised they have a new member on stage that isn't on the album they are touring on. And stood in line get his autograph. Cheers, James.
A welcome return of The Chronicles!
Another really great interview! Super entertaining and genuine 🤘
Another great interview for the chronicles of filth! James seems like a really good guy.
I really like James when he was in cradle and really nice guy I met him after the show he played in Brisbane at the hifi
I wish you can do one with Martin he was one of my favourite members of filth and my dying bride
I remember the old Hi Fi. I’ve seen many gigs there. Miss it and The Arena Brunswick st.
Amazing interview! Keep them coming!
That's my favourite guitarist
❤
Great stuff mate as always. cheers
Whut he knows Diabolical Masquerade! Awesome!
Yep, got all the albums. Nightwork is still "the" one for me though. Just annoyed I don't have the tshirt anymore as I loved that and have no idea what happened to it
@@7DT I agree Nightwork is their best record.
A few years ago on the official facebook page they announced new T-shirts and longsleeves from all the records. Seems like they are still available.Maybe they did reprint the one you lost.
Listened to the live song in Bree from Summon the Wolves and it sounds great. Had some unique touches in it. Looking forward for the full lenght.
You should add him to the podcast.
He seems like a genuine person.
You guys seem very much alike.
I heard his new band pretty cool btw.
Thanks man, hopefully you'll enjoy the full thing, as we're recording in a weeks time, although that always takes way longer than you think it will!
Nice interview. Good to hear James had the op and it's all good. Dani is the only "owner" of Cradle since Paul Allender left. All session musicians.
Dani said Marthus has a strong ownership over the band too, he's been in 17 years now and contributes a lot to the writing
@hughman9975 Yeah, Richard Shaw described Martin as the 'quality control'.
The band write their riffs and melodies, and present them to Martin for approval 🫡
@@hughman9975 Absolutely and with both keys and drums.
@@MrFilth4000 And I've always thought Marthus is an inferior drummer
Hey Andrew, how are you? I hope all is well with you and yours.
Thank you for another chapter in COF history!
Tbh, Nymphetamine was the last COF album I bought. My last effort to follow the band closely, after the change with Midian.
And I say this, without any disrespect to James (Germs Warfare) or the music on the album. On the contrary, not only does James seem like a great guy (as well as a great guitarist), but also the album, while not being a Dusk or a Cruelty, is quite good musically. He “combined” very well with Paul.
It's fast, heavy, aggressive and the guitars are a wall of sound. In certain aspects I always liked Nymphetamine and Damnation and a Day more than Midian.
Anyway, thank you Andrew for your work and thank you James for sharing your story.
Thx Andre, the chat with Sarah will be ready soon as well. It’s as significant as the chat with Stuart 🍺
@@ScarsandGuitarspodcast That's great news, mate! I will definitely be here.
Great work (as always).
It would be great if that acted as an incentive for Rob to come out of his cave... with all due respect for his privacy, of course. But I'm asking for too much, I know.
Still, one thing is certain, at this point, if there's anyone capable of making this happen, it's you.
Stay strong
@@andrepereira744 Thx brother!
I bought CRUELTY AND THE BEAST in 98. The year I graduated high school.
I liked it, thought it was nuts, but because I lived in such an extremely rural area I knew nothing about them and did not follow what they were about and what they did from there.
This was pre internet, I was busy working, doin substances and generally running myself into the ground.
I didnt keep up with the " oughts".
Somehow some years back I bumped into NYMPHETAMINE,
Not only did I like it, I started to love it.
So I ate up every bit of COF I can find, with absolutely no focus on fashion or what is cool or uncool for any particular era.
I love everything CRADLE has ever done, more or less to varying degree's, like SLAYER or IRON MAIDEN.
However, the albums since Paul left I like just a little bit less. Funny, because many people have heralded the last 3 releases as a " return to the proper form".
Ok. They are still pretty awesome. But I love the Paul Allender years and the more thrash metal guitar oriented sound.
Speakin of MAIDEN, I must admit I had a hard time digesting the BLAZE releases, once a band has had the mighty BRUCE DICKINSON, how can we be happy with anything else?
Blaze deserves respect for giving it his best, but honesty dictates I admit that it didnt hit the mark. For me.
Nice!
🔥 ❤ 🔥 James McIlroy
I remember one of his neck-through Ibanez guitars was for sale on ebay a couple of years ago. Should have snatched it. I think it went for just about under 2k
Thanks for the interview(s) 🎉
Aw man, was it the matte black one? I'e recently started looking for it as I kind of want it back (as one of the things I shouldn't have sold, but did because i needed the cash) Any leads would be welcome in tracking it down
I feel the same way about my USRG. Anyway, pretty sure it was. Neck-through with the maple visible (and two EMG's I think). Wish I bought it back then, just to get it back to you and go full circle. @@7DT
@@Astro-Av yeah, that's the one :/ I think that one will be lost now, as if it got sold, then the guy who had it, who i was looking for the details for, won't have it anymore. Crap :(
Nothing is ever lost. We'll neb on the lookout!@@7DT
Likable fella! He plays ibanez too which is the sensible choice. Get more james episodes for sure
If Robin and Gian don't want to get involved in these conversations, maybe Martin Foul and Adrian Erlandsson are more open.
Adrian is awesome but he’s hopeless at keeping to a schedule. He’s missed our chats a few times. John (Gian) probably wouldn’t do it, and he’s off the grid, as is Rob. Martin, well, I’m keen if he is.
I like Mcllroy, it’s unfortunate that the albums they released in that era were their worst ones. Nymphetamine, Darkly, Thornography. IMO
I saw him with Cradle in 2003 with Type O Negative
Andrew, had any luck with Robin & Gian ?
Nah, a few leads but nothing concrete
@ScarsandGuitarspodcast fingers crossed as they will be the two too complete the chronicles along with Les & Sarah. I think they will also have a lot to say..
Was wondering if u heard about jon kenedy?

Can ANYONE clear this up for me, is the EP called V (fifth) EMPIRE or VEMPIRE?
Nick Barker said in an interview that it was vempire, not 5th empire. Something about it being the fifth album/ep but the pronounciation is still just vempire. Since Nick was there back then, I think it’s accurate.
@@TheFixer-rq9tj However, there's a space between the V and E and the E is also capitalised. So, When i saiid Vempire, i was corrected by Dani when i wa sin the band - James
Bro, I had to ask chat gpt this because I've never heard anyone refer to it as 5th empire. The album that keeps on giving. EP...whatever😂
@@7DT Well, I think that settles the debate right there! 😆 Take care brother 🤘🏻

Brace yourselves for the upcoming shitshow collab w ed sheerin
I think what you're looking for here is a popcorn emoji as even I have no idea what the hell that is going to be like
He is spot on about Rivers of Nihil. They get it. I too was stunned the first time i heard them and had Where Owls Know My Name on loop for quite some time. When it comes to full album playthroughs I often find myself going back to older works as they seem to have been crafted around an entire listening experience rather than spamming one single off a record. One that comes to mind is Moon in the Scorpio by Limbonic Art. What a magical experience that record is. Lengthy songs, but such a ride nonetheless! Hidden History of the Human Race by Blood Incantation is a recent one that stuck with me heavily. Anyways, what a great chat! I always look forward to these!
