"Force the opposition to work at a level they're not used to." That's brilliant from a manager

I strongly believe what I'm about to say and I will always stand by it. Ronaldo would have had a much better career, a much more successful career and a much bigger football legacy, had he stayed at Man United for four more years and then just left when Sir Alex retired.
Let's look at the facts. What did Ronaldo do in his first 4 years at Real Madrid? Yes he scored a lot of goals. 201 goals is no joke. But what did he win in those four years? Just one league title and one copa del rey.
What would he have won at Man United, had he stayed? 2 league titles in four years was a certainty. But they lost 2 league titles on the final day, due to goal difference and one point. With Ronaldo, Man United surely win all 4, making it 7 titles in a row. In those 4 years, I'm sure Man United win one champions league title. He wouldn't have scored 201 goals, but he surely would have scored well over a hundred. Well over a hundred goals in England is surely more valuable than 200 in Spain. I'd say 150 he would have scored. He probably would have won a second ballon dor as a Man United player and then he joins Madrid and still wins 4 ucls in 5 years and a league title and a copa del rey too. But he probably wouldn't have left Madrid in 2018. Having completed a decade at Man United, he'd probably want to do the same at Real Madrid. Leaving Madrid in 2018 would have meant, he only scored 250 goals. Another 5 years and he gets his original numbers and an additional champions league title. 2 if he stays beyond 2023 and retires.
So I think he'd have had a bigger legacy. But even if he decided to leave in 2018, he'd still have won almost the exact same amount of trophies anyway. But as a career total, he'd have won much more. Probably would have had a couple of extra ballon dors too.
I still would have believed that Messi is the greatest ever, because he's something else. Without goals, he's still the best and would still be compared to Maradona. So I do wish Ronaldo stayed at Man United for four more years and then go to Madrid in 2013 and maybe stay there until he retires at probably 2026 or 2027 at the latest if 1000 career goals is that important to him. He would not even be close to 900 if he was still in Europe though. Maybe 850 just
