OPR is awesome. The fundamental basic rules are explained in two (and a half) sentences. 1. Move 6 inches and shoot or 12 inches which can be into melee. 2. To attack roll on your quality. The defender then rolls hits to his defence and takes wounds for each fail. Everything else is a variation of that. Simple, yet with the different abilities and army compositions still leaves room to be deep. Can be played solo or coop. Use whatever models you have. Combine your dream army of whatever you like best. In two words: HAVE FUN! I love it.
"Can I check how far my penguin can shoot?" If you in a scenario where you have to ask that, you are playing the right game. Penguins that can shoot? Excellent game.
@@sillecnomak2309 Simple but strong rules will always beat complex rules that are complex for complexity's sake, or only exist to correct core faults in a system. If I can teach a mate to play in 10 minutes, go through a game in an hour, and have a good time, that is a superior system to one where a similar level enjoyment is achieved with a game that takes 3+ hours to complete and a couple of days or play-throughs to understand completely.
So I introduced OPR's Age of Fantasy Skirmish to two different groups, one was a veteran, old school group who still play Mordheim and WH Fantasy 6th Edition and the other one was a newer group that only fairly plays 40k 10th Edition from time to time. Both groups got instantly hooked to the system and, while I agree it may lack the rules complexity of old school skirmish or wargames, its fast pace and great accessibility make it very attractive. I think it's a perfect entry point for beginners, specially young children who are sometimes intimidated or lose atention when faced with more complex rulesets.
@ImperialGit agree, what is the point of complexity when it becomes a battle of just remembering it all. Even professionals playing on TH-cam forget rules to 40k and AOS and that is a sign of how bloated it is.
@@ImperialGit Rules should always exist to enhance experience of the game. If rules exist that actively impede enjoyment to add complexity, or if they only exist to make up for a flaw in core design (40k's IGYG system is at fault for a lot of its issues) then they should be eliminated.
They posted on the official OPR TH-cam channel the rest of this battle, also somewhere the “most cinematic battle report ever” is floating around that Dave was a player in.
The real strength of this rule set in our experience is the epic scale that can be played seamlessly. Think epic 4000 points a side battles that fit into an evening. That is a unique spot in the hobby.
I must admit, the idea of being able to play BIG battles in a relatively short time frame with an army I can afford because I don't have to pay games workshop prices appeals to me.
Without the headaches, additional cost and 2 year obsolescence cycle! If you buy the “extended” OPR rules you are emailed when a new version drops and you can download them for free!
Dave has Ravaged Star under his belt, and is still showing off other games & models. A true hero of the hobby. More games = more BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!
The blatant sponsor posting recently is a lot. But also Dave is so engaging in his videos and enthusiasm I can’t stop watching. Sell me more stuff Dave. Also I wish you had done more commentary over this video. I’d already seen it and would have liked to have heard more from you.
at this point, I honestly don't know why anyone still adheres to GWs gameplay, I havent touched the game in over a year I could never imagine keeping up with the continuous and unstable rules changes, misinterpretations, etc etc etc etc
You guys are still teaching this like people know what you’re talking about. I don’t understand a lot of what you’re saying because you’re not explaining everything. I have zero knowledge
Hi love the work and amazing video ❤🔥 KitbashCarnage hear at the age of 31 iv recently got back into the warhammer/kitbashing community agen after taking 15year brake to pay bills and so on . I have taken the leap head on and started a youtube channel along with Instagram, Facebook and Tiktok. It's hard with my dyslexia and not being as young as the others as this algorithm thing is somthing to get used to along with editing and so on but my love and the flame for my lost passion has been reignited more then ever and dont plan on stopping soon . Along with having lots of content plans and already in the pipeline and also a Revamp to all social media with new header picture and profile picture from a digital contractor I sorced I hope to just gain more traction to the community iv came back to . Regards KitbashCarnage
I'm sorry but I don't understand the appeal. The reason I like sigmar/40k etc is all the flavor and differences. There's already plenty of more basic games out there like many mantic ones and that's fine too prefer but why simplify another system. It's like wanting to play chess instead of checkers but rewriting the rules to make it basically play like checkers anyways.
The armies have flavour and the complexity of the game comes in a different fashion. Alot of on the fly adaptation as your order of activation is probably a far bigger part of the game than people give credit for.

Hey, you should look at the multiplayer trailers for space marine 2 because there is something I think you'd be interested in.

The longest learning curve are the Abilities of the units/factions, the system itself is easy to grok quickly. OPR is finally getting some attention!
"Grok" is such a dumb term...
Grok!
@@ImperialGitThat's only because you don't grok it.

I love this game- super fun, streamlined, and lets you focus on the tactics instead of constant rules-lawyering.
Yes, mindless simplification at it best

"Youre going to alternate in activating units" already better than 40k
Ok... i need more video of OPR :O
I second this

I love OPR. I don’t have much time to hobby, and less to game, so I usually end up playing solo. OPR solo rules make it so easy and fun.
That's kind of sad bro. Surely you can find somebody to play (OPR) against?
@@ImperialGit oh I’m sure there are people who would play. It’s a time issue. Between family and work I have maybe 30 minutes a day or so to hobby.
OPR is *awesome*, and with the few advanced rules, it is as detailed and tactical as any other minis game, without the headaches.

slowly but surely OPR gains more players 😍
Thank you, Dave, for covering OPR!
I’ve been a patron of both OPR and Titanforge for about 2 years. Loving the cross over. Trying to get a team playing this month in WNY.
More OPR plz.
So streamlined and simple!
What's the penguin army called ?
I don’t understand the objectives or why you didn’t explain placing them
Please start doing batreps for OPR games!
Ok :)
OK, I agree; impressive
More!

Looking forward to using OPR more often. What country war OPR created in? Someday I would like to bring some gaming, back to Romania form Ameirca.
Once I started playing one page rules games, I never played any GW game again.
Great. Will try to get some people into it right over here. Where's the gaming mat from ?
I can use the thousands of dollars of miniatures i've painted and have a fun game, not be a kicking back for the latest GW hotness.
I haven’t Dave, because it doesn’t seem that hard to do.
What I can’t grasp is how a company worth in the hundred millions can’t do it either.
are there rules for all the units yet? Last time I check a good number of newer stuff was missing data sheets
off the topic of OPR, would you guys be willing to touch on Warmachine now that a new company owns it?
They got some cool t-shirts, how do I get the swag? I already purchased the "Mega all in sci-fi" tier, the models are outstanding.
So sick of GW. Want to get into OPR. This video helps a lot thanks!
You should play warhammer risk again
Are one page rules compatible with 40k unit datasheets? This looks like a great way to have a blast with some friends.
datasheets no. but you can use any models you like.
I like opr i wish it was a bit more complex but it was fun
Have you tried the full (paid) rules with all of the optional rules? I find the complete rules add a lot.
Grr, i started watching to get an idea of the game but ended up wanting to see the outcome of the game.
You guys are still teaching this like people know what you’re talking about. I don’t understand a lot of what you’re saying because you’re not explaining everything. I have zero knowledge
