Honestly surprised Jan would put "Birthday Stream" on it. I always thought he would just go "alright that's it for today's stream. I have to go have a birthday dinner" and the chat just begins rush typing happy birthday.
For how broken is Heracrosss... if entering a battle with guts activated by a burn, it is basically equivalent to a 211 base attack mon with an ability that makes it immune to status conditions, but makes him lose 6.25% of his HP every turn. That's actually just absurdly strong (more attack than any existing mon, discounting abilities like huge power), and the only reason it isn't absolutely insane in competitive mons is you can't enter a battle pre-burnt, so it has to lose the item slot and rely on activating flare orb to get going. I mean, Jan already knows Guts is bonkers, so I assume this is more about how well it matches up in Run&Bun (the typing actually finding a lot of crucial switch-in opportunities and the speed being just enough, plus it being able to enter mega hera mode and opening up more options than it would have otherwise). I still thought it might be useful to people reading the comments who might not realize.
Yeah, I used a similar strat in a battle where I couldn't pre-burn in a ROM hack (Radical Red) I will-o-wisped my Swellow for Guts Facade (it was a double battle) and then I used helping hand to have Swellow just instantly sweep the entire team.
This man speaks the best English for any ESL I’ve ever come accross. I know that’s more common in Europe but to understand humor in a different language is a different type of animal
It's more about the "learning English as a kid" + "spending an unholy amount of time online also as a kid" combo that makes you really understand slang and humor in English.... At least that has been the case for me
Me and my friends use this as our general definitions in our OU/QP games we play together. Chip Dmg -> Any Damage that does 5%-25% for supporting purposes (like baton pass/Uturn/Flip Turn) typically on 1x or .5x attacks Passive/Residual/DoT-> Volatile Status Conditions such as Burn,Poison,Toxic,Whirlpool,Fire Storm, Sandstorm Swap-in Dmg -> Spikes
Was Jan not using healing items because he's so trainer battle pilled that he thought he couldn't, or does he just choose not use items like that in wild pokemon battles on purpose?
Yeah no items in battle applies everywhere usually, obviously your run your rules. Makes catching some particularly dangerous mons harder because you might lose someone while chucking balls
i love how poison heal plays the poison damage animation and then your hp just goes up like don't they in other games do it where it just doesn't play the poison animation and instead just plays a healing animation?
"The gimmick is that every trainer fucks you" has the same energy as "The boss inflicts only one status condition called *death* " For those who don't get it, in rpgs, instant death is sometimes an actual status condition that doesn't give a damn about health, defense or nuance
@LilyMilovnik to be fair, it at least caps at the health for the phase, instead of fully resetting the fight- in the worst case, Armageddon still does Armageddon things
Chip is usually used for attacks, but sometimes it is for additional damage like status or rocky helmet or magma storm. It’s not wrong to use it this way
I consider myself a huge fan of Pokémon but for some reason I always thought the actual name of the buffalo mon was fucking Boofalot. I just noticed that it's name is not highly inappropriate..

21:20 the instant pivot to "it's crobat for some fucking reason" absolutely sent me
27:35 bro follows birthday logic as rigid as his nuzlocke rules. Respect.

I did not lie to him on his birthday about the first electrode, however I had left stream before I could warn him about the second one. :(
:(
Passive is the term for VGC specifically, like the g-max moves were 1/6 damage per turn and were most commonly passive damage

You can technically get funny and try to bait opponent status, leftovers toxic heal gliscor would be nuts

Was Jan not using healing items because he's so trainer battle pilled that he thought he couldn't, or does he just choose not use items like that in wild pokemon battles on purpose?
@@tehsingh1 i think his hardcore rules just dont allow items in battle in general, or it might be kinda muddled.

It's probably because poison heal wasn't a thing in gen 3 and they didn't feel like it was important enough to bother fixing when they hacked it in.
7:30 chip damage "any move that directly or indirectly causes little damage"
A wild electrode being a huge threat to the run is really funny
Attempt 5 has so much plot armor this is the attempt that Jan makes it
i of course dont ever want a mon lost in a run, but i hope im there if centiskorch goes down so i can honk if thatcher's dead

This game is brutal dude. Mt. Pyre into MHO into AHO. I'm exhausted just watching!
That electrode was a one mon massacre, holy shit.
I’m too invested on this run I gotta start catchin the Twitch
They are always considered dot i believe. Passive damage would be more like skill based damage like gulp misile or aftermath I think.
damn this run was looking so strong, so sad pult got killed by exploding wild electrode
Can’t believe the run I still alive
Instead of residual or passive damage, how about tick damage?
Wondering how far this will go
Happy late birthday, Jan.
hey i don't play run and bun. Is there some mechanic to easily set up burns or set a certain hp?
yeah the lady in the upper right of the poke center will do it for you
Residual damage is the competitive name.
Passive damage and residual damage work, some people allude to it as “chip” depending on the form of damage
In regards to the question a little after 6 minutes in
Chip is usually used for attacks, but sometimes it is for additional damage like status or rocky helmet or magma storm. It’s not wrong to use it this way
I think the term 'chip damage' can be used correctly in any instance of small damage, whether that comes from entry hazards, status or damaging move
