Tetris is just one of those games that will simply never die off the only possible ways would either be that they screw up and anger everyone or that it just gets shut down which would royally piss everyone off
The way you approach this type of content and how you manage to let the game and its greatest pioneers speak for itself is superb. One can feel the effort and love you got for Tetris and its inspirational. Thank you very much.
Coming back to this video, I'm fairly certain that the diagram at 5:29 is inaccurate. Even if it were possible to spawn the o piece, placing it as shown in the diagram would not be possible because all of the nodes in the mino would be above row 20. This is also why you cannot end a Kirbtris with a single. I believe what Kirby meant was to place the j piece vertically upside down, (Like this: ⬛⬛ ⬛ ⬛) and then let the o piece spawn to clear a double. (The o piece spawns in rows 20 and 21, and columns 5 and 6) I'm kind of surprised that I didn't remember noticing this earlier, since the diagram clearly shows the o being placed in row 21. If you need proof of this actually in game, my first kirbtris was actually the way Kirby described: th-cam.com/video/FhQniRYLolo/w-d-xo.html Also, sorry if someone already pointed this out and I'm being redundant.
Oh yeah. Wumbo just did an Ultimatris for *87* lines. Kirby did the 21 lines KIRBTRIS in a VERSUS, but Wumbo just pushed the damage limit. 4 wide in Zone is deadly.
I love that there are theoretical tetris players just like there are theoretical physicists where they explore abstract concepts that are technically possible within the game
That's the most fun thing about any game for me. Not what I can do but crunching some numbers and experimenting what would be the lowest/highest extreme you can achieve
My gosh it’s one of my pet peeves with tetris effect. This game is impossible to watch on TH-cam!! I wish I could find some good uncompressed footage of it lol
I mean, they'd have to add Fever and increase its power to make it balanced. And currently combos = puyo chain divided by 2 (i.e. 20 combo 4-wide = measly 10 chain, puyo theoretical highest is 19, top players regularly do 15+)

aye you know what I've loved playing tetris and I can't do anything world record level, but I have respect for her. Proof that there can be competitive and record holding women in gaming.
Technically if you're lucky enough you can theoretically get a 23 line clear. Get 19 lines on all columns except 3 For the 20th line use a line piece making it 23 lines and do so for all the sides. Use the focus button and try get to the top and get lucky enough for 3 line pieces Extremely unlikely but may happen. Disclaimer I do not know much about tetris but from the info I got from the video what I said should be possible
actually because of how tetris pieces spawn this wouldn't be possible. you can't get three I pieces in a row in the new tetris games (unlike NES tetris where it was completely random).
I saw that video of trey harrison playing tetris effect for the first time and ive been playing tetris effect and havent gotten the perfectris even once since and now that ive seen the "keep 2 lines free" strat thats blown my mind to keep two lines free is insane to me a little
"best zone player" really depends on what you mean. Arguably the best use of zone is to use it as soon as you fill a quarter to get an octotris, this allows for the highest potential scores in journey mode. As for consistently getting a dodecahexatris and higher, then you want to fully fill your zone meter.

@@LilacSneakyOwl The reason that she couldn't place the I piece flat is that none of the piece would have been within the active playfield and it would have topped her out within the zone. The only way to get 22/23 lines is by placing L, J and I pieces vertically.
This zone battle thing reminds me of Tetris 99 I’ve seen a lot of pro Tetris 99 players one example that comes to mind is wumbotize idk if Kirby has ever played Tetris 99 but I’d like to see wumbotize and Kirby play zone battle since wumbotize has played Tetris 99 and has played Tetris effect so I’d say it would be a well balanced fight
Nope, all pieces spawn on line 20, so dropping the I piece first would have spawned the J piece inside the floor on row 20, since the gaps would be on rows 21 and 22, and after locking the J, the I piece spawns inside row 20 so that row 22 couldnt be cleared.
So this is the culmination of the og tetris attack meets actual tetris. Considering on double hard (hardest difficulty) at my prime I could sweep bowser in 30 seconds... this might be more my speed than NES Tetris. As I have a good bit of tetris 99 experience too so this is likely something I need for get.

You can also tell with a lot of classic players by the way they build stacks. I remember my first time watching Amemiya playing in tournament it blew my mind how versatile a messy looking board could be for t-spins or other SRS trickery. Up to that point the only pro tetris I’d seen had been from the CTWC

No, because one part of the piece must always spawn below the top of the field, otherwise you top out. 22 lines can only be achieved with a vertical L/J/I placement

Two, three, and four wides are your ‘drop off’ tactics. Only one wide is ‘ scaling the cliff’ and is much harder to pull off

You should play more modern Tetris, it's v fun and more technique-based than classic (still v fun)
"Technique" comes in the form of building good intuition in Classic. Guideline is memorization :)

Doremy tried a 19-line 4w zone combo and sent a whopping 90+ lines. Combos does not get nerfed, but buffed instead thanks to the zone.
