Although I generally listen to and prefer Scottish music and fiddling, Kevin Burke has stolen my heart. His extraordinarily fluid, relaxed style raises the hairs on the back of my neck. No other fiddler of any style can come near him for sheer 'in amongst the guts' feel. When I say 'he rocks', I mean it literally: his music rocks, swings and sways like a rocking horse, with the same mixture of soothing and exciting effects. May he live - and play - for ever!
lovely. just lovely. I was privileged to meet Micheal a few times and spent some happy hours in his great company. Thanks for this lovely vid! Cheers, pipewatcher
Thanks for your comment bettiebebe. For years I thought that this was from Jackie Daly & Seamus Creagh's album - even though I recognised Micheal Ui Domhnaill's voice. Very easy listening, a great set.
Lovely stuff. Has anyone got Kevin and Micheál performing Lord Franklin from their first album(I think) .Still in my opinion the best version and I have at least 7 others.
I forgot to reply! I was at Easkey in 1986 and took heaps on photos and then I began to wonder why the wee red light in the camera stopped working - flat battery! so very few of the pics turned out at all. Watched a hay rope being made and also watched a bit of a Gaelic football match there - I think it was against Tubbercurry but I''m not certain, I think they were well beaten and one fellow came off with a broken arm.
@Athleticsfan958 I'm pretty sure the tune is old. "Some say the devil's dead, the devil's dead, devil's dead and buried in Killarney. More say he rose again, rose again, rose again and married Katie Kearney."
Thanks for the comment. "Lucy's Fling" is almost one of a kind, but sometimes classed as a Strathspey (which indicates a Scottish origin, but it may be a sort of "Donegal Highland" The song is in Scottish Gaelic. The last tune is definitely Irish.
This is from the album "Portland" by Kevin Burke and the late Micheal O Domhnaill. I don't know where you would get it in NZ . Search for it on Amazon?
@Pepperami369 I already know this. I have been there and I added a note a year ago saying exactly where it is so there is no need to be so coy about saying it is Easkey, Co Sligo :-) The statue is called "The Time of Day."
thank you... i'm italian, so i don't know very good Irish and Scottish music (and maybe my english isn't very good too!)... i listen it only since a year, but it's since always in my heart!
Just pure magic. The only thing that keeps my heart beating ---- ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Yet another great one, Iain - toe tapping music - marvelous vid great info! Knew you were born to the breed - Thank you!
I agree. He's the man. Somehow he manages to savor every note, and make sure we savor it, no matter how many dozen notes per second he is playing :)
