I sell a lot of vintage sewing patterns, like you mostly $10-20. But my highest priced sale was a 1930s wedding dress pattern that went for over $120 on auction. I paid 10 cents for it at a thrift store.
I love the information you give us. I watched this whole video. I used to sew so I didn’t realize what I could have in my patterns 👀. Thank you. I think you should run an auction.
Another good video! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.....you are down to earth and easy to understand. I look forward to viewing your other videos.
I do not sew, but love old patterns. I started collecting old ones for the artwork. Thought they would look cute framed in a closet area. I need to take a closer look at what I have. Great video with excellent information. Thank you!
I love Issey Miyake. My first designer I fell in love with and I think he does have a cult following. I started wearing his perfume in high school and I’ve never found anything I have liked more. Just amazing talent all the way around
Yes, that is exciting that you found the same vintage pattern in your stash. I am a “sewist” and you have inspired me to look through and sell some patterns..maybe. I LOVE the art work on them so I’m not sure I could part with some of them. I am staying until the end of this video…this is my jam!
Still watching. I have always loved patterns, especially vintage and designer ones. I volunteer for a nonprofit and they recently got a donation of patterns, which they could not use and would donate. I scooped up a box full of older ones. I have listed patterns in the past and had a lot of challenges with shipping costs eating up my profits. Your information for pricing has been helpful. Thank you!
I'm still here! I did fast forward cause I was searching for a movie 😂, but I will be watching in full my next work day! Great info. I'll have to take another look at my patterns.
I ran across a huge lot of patterns unexpectedly today but had zero clue what to look for. I was so overwhelmed. Very thankful for this video! Now I can go back and at least have a starting point.
I’ve viewed several TH-cam’s of women who make the walk away dress. It’s still very popular for TH-camrs. I don’t think it’s a very flattering style on most people.
Hello! I am so happy I came across your video here as I have a box of vintage sewing patterns and have absolutely zero background knowledge about them. I am looking forward to seeing you explain how to list them... how to tell if it's complete (when cut), determine condition when pricing etc etc. I'm sure it would be easy for me to lot them, but since my box isn't 'huge' I can probably go through them and see if there are any I should list individually. :) Thank you for this and will be looking out for more on this subject from you!!! xoxo Cheers!
I watched it all the way to the end! Thank you for sharing your research with us! I’ve bought a lot of sewing patterns at estate sales, I need to start listing them and capitalize on what the current trends are!
Your tips are great. I picked up some Vogue and Butterick this weekend for 0.60c each in Australia. Very good comparisons on Ebay. Watched all the way through because the fashion tips are very informative.
Love the video, I take my mother thrifting and I see patterns all the time so this information is interesting. I watched the whole thing, loved it, and subscribed! Thank You!
LOL, still watching...though I did take little skips. Thanks for sharing your expertise! Not too long ago (within the last year) a video popped up you youtube--something like the "walkaway challenge". I went down that rabbit hole to see many who accepted the challenge with that pattern! Looking forward to the next installment!
@@pishposhreselling These seemed to be seamstresses and the results were interesting. A couple looked good but most....not so much. Maybe people buy it to try and see if they can make it look better than those!
Watched to the end though not in one shot & in high speed, which is my norm. I am trying to figure out how to price a pattern that has no current listings & I found only one sold on Etsy. I couldn’t find that pattern anywhere else. Also it seems like eBay is the only one that lets you see sold records of an item unless there is a way I don’t know. I do have a pretty good bunch of patterns to sell but haven’t gone through them yet. Thanks!
Lately Etsy listings (solds) have been showing the sold price but sometimes older listings don’t. There used to be sneaky ways to find sold prices on individual Etsy listings but not sure they work anymore. Did you see any in Terapeak? What’s the pattern? Now I’m curious 👀😂
September 2022 through the winter, Stephanie Canada held a You Tube Walk Away Dress Challenge. That pattern was hot! There was some discussion about the original pattern vs a reissue. Not sure how in demand it is now.
I have 3 or 4 pattern counter books shoved under my sofa. My MIL bought them in the 70's. I also got a lot of patterns but I go fed up making sure they were complete. I couldn't get $5 for them on eBay.
🎩 Thank you for the time and effort with these videos! So much information shared. Off topic question: I only have a couple of eBay accounts, but I want to start an etsy. If I sold kitchen items, pottery, linens, and sewing patterns... would you have one account (brand new account, and little inventory) for..patterns for example?? Or other options. Looking forward to the next video on this topic. Thank you again!
I would have no problem having just one Etsy shop with all those various items in them. It would work! You can make categories to organize the shop too. If you plan on specializing on one type of item and building a bigger inventory of those items I could see the benefit to having separate shops.
I can’t think of the guys name, but the designer that designed the costumes for the Star Trek TV show was an actual legit designer, known outside of having done the Star Trek costumes
The Queen recently died, which is probably why that pattern sold for so high, just a guess 😘👩🌾 Stephani Canada did a whole HUGE VIDEO on that walk a way dress and personally I would list it at 99.99. You can always come down on the price but you can never go higher. So list it high and if it doesn't sell while you are gone in vacation then list it on Auction starting bid highest sold price. Hope your husband is feeling better soon 👩🌾
There are soooo many patterns that are not worth a bunch…mostly because there are a lot available. Took me awhile to be able to sift out the likely good ones. There are also FB groups you can sell patterns on as well. I’ve done that too.
I have a bunch of older like Victorian style patterns, all new uncut in original packaging, they look old but I do t know when they were made, I can only find a few online available anywhere. I can’t find anything about them so I don’t know how to price them. Anybody have any idea?? Any info is helpful!! They are 1860-1890 era. I don’t think they were made then but I have no idea. They’ve been in storage in totes for many many years.
The Renaissance patterns are selling now because of the popularity of shows like "Bridgerton". Huge TV hits are almost always indicators for what patterns will sell. The Elvis pattern has gone down because the hype surrounding the movie had died. That vintage mens boxers pattern has always sold for a lot, it's very popular with men who claim it's a great cut to wear. Donna Karan and DKNY are 2 different classifications. I think the DKNY are always separated/sportswear. Anyway, when her contract with Vogue ended not only did they stop designing but Vogue couldn't even sell the old ones. She apparently had an unusual contract and the designs all belonged to her, not Vogue. I suspect they will become collectibles in a few more years. The DKNY line was a bigger seller so more were printed but they were great 90's/00's fashion that is coming back in a big way. The Walkaway dress was just reprinted a few years ago. They've been reprinting a few vintage patterns every season for the past 10 years or so, the bar code is a dead giveaway since they were use the same cover art. Since the big 4 merged under the McCalls moniker they've cut back on named designers considerably which is so sad. Marcy Tilton designs for Vogue and has had so many best sellers and longest printed patterns of all time. She has a couple patterns that sell in the $50+ range. Her sister Katherine used to design for Vogue but they moved her to Buttermilk. Again, top seller. Another Vogue nam to watch for is Koos van den Akker. Some of his oop are rising in price and his death left a huge gap in the interesting/artistic/challenging patterns. A newer designer for them is Julio Cesar...who used to work for Koos. A couple of his early patterns are doing well on the secondary market already. If you run across patterns from The Sewing Workshop please let me know! I collect them and am always on the hunt for the oop ones that I don't have. Don't ask me why I collect them, I just do. I also sew with them so that's how I justify it to myself, lol.
Great information, thanks! I’ve sold a couple Koos van den Akker but it was a few years back. I’ll keep an eye out. And I’ll have to research the Marcy Tilton ones. I’ve sold some basic ones - I’ll have to see which ones sell higher. And for sure I will watch out for your patterns. 👍🏻 So fascinating watching the values rise and fall!
That Wall a Way dress is horrible. Need to watch Stephanie Canada video comparasions of new vs vintage patterns. The pieces do not match the vintage pieces at all. She discovered that all the company does is reprint from a line drawing on the envelope cover, NOT the actual vintage piece. I mean, how the cow pile do they determine shape from just a line drawing? These are people who have no idea how sewing concepts work. Or patterns.
I sell a lot of vintage sewing patterns, like you mostly $10-20. But my highest priced sale was a 1930s wedding dress pattern that went for over $120 on auction. I paid 10 cents for it at a thrift store.
