I was not a BTS fan (not a hater just never really paid attention) until I heard V's "For Us".. then I got hooked on the whole Layover album.. really just my kind of jam

I can relate ☺️ I'm a senior citizen who loves all kinds of music, be it pop, rap, r&b, jazz,etc. And yet when I heard BTS music especially V's solo music - I was totally hooked❣️ his songs keep me company the whole day with so much serenity in my midst. 🎶👏👍♥️♥️♥️
For us is my favourite song from his album
V created this virtual world from his so called lab. In his lab, you can see the mountains that he drove through, the snail, butterfly, he set up the sail with Yeontan, he did the CGI for the dancers when he went into the booth. You missed the image of Yeontan on the side of the mountains and clouds. So much in this video, there are more.

Strongly agree. This is art and cinema that I’ve not seen before. His very 4-V ie Taetae view of the world. He’s got this unique sideways way of thinking that comes through. Playful teasing layers of meaning but also pure emotion. His honey voice isn’t trying to outshine the instruments in any song but allowing the musicians time to breathe and shine. I wish Blue and For Us MVs got more love from the fandom but they like Yoongis Amgydala will be special artistic gifts they gave us.

so, if you connect rainy days and slow dancing, you'll see that in RD he's studying his own face, proportions and all, and making sculptures and animation with it, of himself. and then in slow dancing he's creating a whole fake universe, so you see the mountains and the creatures in his studio. that's why in the photo is all him cause it's his own fake world creation. maybe is to escape the sadness of being alone (like you can see in rainy days) and that's why he yearns for someone, for this love. it's what i could interpret of it
Yes an astute observation. Its not about V and BTS but V as an artist in the music industry. As BTS stood out, V stands out. You are correct in associating V to artists like Van Gogh in that he has the imagination and insight. And that is what is so fascinating and exciting about V. He has come to love himself in a way and the break has given him time to be himself and surrounded himself woth people who appreciates him for who he is and recognises his intelligence and artistry. Unfortunately when in BTS they labelled members and i feel that his genuis was not highlighted as a result.
You said it perfectly, it is so quintessentially Tae - it surpasses just being a song, it takes you to another plane, it warms your soul. On Tiny Desk Korea Tae said, he has filled the album "with songs that evoke a sense of fleeting tranquility, the album resembles me a lot".

rainy days is one of my top 5 of all time and it came out of nowhere, like i love bts but theyre not my ults so i casually listen to the solo releases, my favorite weather is rain and i really just dont know how to describe it but V captured the feelings SO PERFECTLY. like every lyric you can tell the intention and story and emotion. im like jefughfsugehfbvrjsgbrgbhr I AM OBSESSED OMFG. i think layover is flawless like bar for bar every song is perfect. Slow Dancing mv referenced Van Gogh's Starry Night painting... You can see the colour palette (yellow and blue) in the world Tae was creating as well as throughout the mv. Tae is super cool.
Kim Taehyung always goes his own way and I really like it. Watch the clips in order and listen to the explanation, I found it interesting. P.S. Taehyung's favorite artist is Van Gogh
They shot all of the mv's for Layover in Spain. The songs also have several live perfs from different shows, it would be lovely if you'd react to that as well, or watch in your own time. This is my fave BTS member solo album and Indigo by RM. IMO, both very creative and artistic.
But yes, I know what you mean about V. I kinda get why he had put off his solo album for a long time, coz he had a very specific narrative that he wanted for his music, that should fit his vision. Even performing live in a show, he had inputs on how to pan the camera to Yeontan.

You need to see him in Tiny Desk Korea and in Band Session. Live. With the band and backing vocals. His beautiful voice. And he play sax too. Amazing. Loved him.
V is so artistic. You can see his vision and know he has his hand in all of these videos. So amazing the flow of Layover. The wrap up with “For Us” just kills me. The longing and last ditch effort to be together again gets me every time. So beautiful, unique and worth the wait!
Great reaction/analysis. V’s MVs require multiple views. In each he is creating an alternate reality. It’s his lab where he creates and then makes come real. The dots are like reference points for creating the cgi. You have to watch his live performances. He sounds so good. In Rainy Days, he portrays an animator. There are a ton of references. NPRTiny Desk Korea with a jazz band and One Take. He really focused on live performances. He also said that he wanted to tell a story and have a visual for each song. He said he saw a visual or pictures in his mind when he listened to the original demos. The album is designed to be listened in order.

Layover is masterpiece
Taehyung is the reason I got into BTS years ago. My friend shared a live performance of 'Stigma' and I became a fan immediately.
I continue to be impressed with all of his solo work and artistry.
I hope Taehyung continues making the music he loves. Layover is one of the best albums released this year and deserves all of the love it is receiving. All of the Layover videos and live performances were also outstanding.

V has one of my favorite voices in all music. I love his tone and the slight breathyness to his voice. I always felt he had a very Jazzy tone to his voice, and would love to hear him some older Jazz or Blues songs.

I am /thrilled/ to see this! YAY. I love Layover so much. I'm surrounded by Tae stans and I listen to the EP more than all of them combined. It's perfectly Tae and to /my/ ears at least is a combination of like neo jazz with a kiss of Motown R&B. Wait until you listen to/watch the MV's in order, it's a great story.

I think V's work is like abstract art --- It's either you get it and love it or you don't understand it and dislike it. Which is why I think a lot of fans don't like (dare I say hate) his songs & music videos. And that's also why I appreciate reactions from people well-versed in art, music, and film because they just get it. It's like what you said about Van Gogh not being appreciated enough while he was alive and I agree that V is like that to some extent.
PS. Don't worry about not understanding the Slow Dancing MV because I also didn't know what was going on until I watched other people's reactions. The first few times I watched it, it just felt trippy to me 😂

This reaction is absolutely one of my favourite Layover reactions because I think you really hit the nail on the head on a lot of the points and personality aspects of Taehyung and his vision as an Artist.
I’m so beyond proud of Tae. Tae has managed to gift us with an album that very much captures his tastes and aesthetics but at the same time a successful album in every meaning of the word, both in that contains heart, soul and depth, an artistic worth as well as commercial success.
Not only that but the reactions I’ve seen to Layover from muggles has been so beautiful. So many were moved and recognised the value of Tae’s Art. Especially music lovers.
Firstly my personal take and thoughts on Layover and the MV’s…
With the Layover album itself (based on what Tae himself has said so far and the info available thus far…) my take and interpretation is that it’s very much an album that reflects and captures his personality, tastes, vibe and moods he likes in song and form rather than it perhaps being autobiographical as he’s not credited as a writer or producer on it. I would personally say that the mood of Layover and its tranquility, softness, slow, serene and graceful gentle tempo etc is what I would interpret as an amalgamation of Tae’s personality. Tae said in his rolling stone interview and other interviews that he chose to receive songs, as he felt he had plenty of time to share his own music later… and that first he wanted to establish his musical colours, musical direction and reflect his tastes as Kim Taehyung the person and that he likes this style of music and sounds etc first. He’s also described it as an album that is part of a journey for him (a layover, stepping stone etc) and also that it gives Army a chance to catch their breaths and a bit of tranquil peace and respite and a chance to reflect on our own lives… he was also saying in a few shows ‘Slow Dancing’ was chosen as a title song because it literally in the meaning of the word reflected his slower, gentle, tranquil personality and characteristics in song form. As well as that Army’s would like it most.
Tae also is very visual in all his concepts… the weverse magazine editorial on him is such a fascinating read because it directly mentions him as a visual Artist with references to Van Gogh and other artists etc. For anyone that’s not checked it out it’s called ‘V the Visualist’.
Tae recreates and interprets the mood of music and films he likes and time periods he likes in his own way in a lot of the content and photo shoots he does too… there is usually always a reference point… so it makes me wonder wether various scenes in the MV’s were used as separate small metaphor’s rather than one cohesive long narrative.
He’s also always said he likes the emotion of nostalgia itself and longing for something and I think that in some ways the fleeting free-spirted, dreamy, , delicate, beautiful and fragile days of golden youth is kind of what he was going for and trying to capture in the MV’s maybe.
In Slow Dancing he seems to be creating his own perfect utopia Also some of the Slow Dancing and the beach scenes reminded me of the Europe holiday scenes in one of Tae’s fav films, call me by your name (the lives he talks about the film in the past… are fascinating but he was obsessed with the sound track and also played it numerous times over the years on piano, he even read out some of it’s dialogue, the film is also mentioned in the magazine article about the MV’s).
Rainy days he’s said reflected and captured his ordinary daily life… like taking a nap, eating, painting etc. The artist techniques used are really mesmerising too.
Another reference that we defo know of for Love Me Again with the MV and cave scenes is that it was very much based on the outfit and David Bowie and glam rock as his inspiration rather than a storyline as he mentioned in IU’s Palette. IU also summed it up as ‘you had clear visual concepts in mind’ (and because of the narratives fans came up with) she jokingly said you can add dramatic details. It will be interesting to see if maybe we get more info later on.
The MV’s were shot at the same time in a period of a week and a half in Spain.… Because of Yeontan’s health Tae couldn’t bring him to Spain so he used a dog that looked as much as possible like Tannie called Rocky.
Overall I totally agree with you that it’s as if his personality has been distilled into these music video, he himself said these are the images he imagines when listening to the songs. I’m so proud that he is offering something so unique, different, beautiful and refreshing to the world. I do feel it is music and art that will withstand the test of time.

Wait until you give For Us a listen. In my humble opinion, it's the most beautiful track on the album. Really understated, but captivating. He sang it at one of the music shows during his promotions, dressed in black and with white hair. It was just a special mood.
2:34 it was said tae filmed his mv in different parts of Spain. Love me again was filmed in Málaga, Rainy days in Madrid if I remember correctly and Slow dancing in Mallorca I think. It is wild for me because I live in Spain and recently lots of kpop groups and artists have been filming their mv in different parts of Spain
A cave in Spain. Oh yes all his MV's were filmed in Spain and it's not his dog Yeotang but a look a likie. He did have Yeotang live on stage with him at a South Music Show with alive audience. The album is called 'layover' and the songs in the correct order tell a story.

There are some who think one of the basic theme of the videos is actually a commentary on Taehyung as an idol really. Like, in slow dancing there are 2 narratives, right? One is him having fun and making memories with friends and the other as you pointed out was him being this architect/diy crafter creating that scaled model of that beach/mountain terrain he was on. In a sense, idols or artists in general create this alternate universe whenever they're on stage where they exist with fans and make happy memories with them. Those tv monitors on love me again could be symbolic of this too. I think you were actually veering close to this interpretation c:
Taehyung would enjoy watching your reaction video btw 🥰. He once said that he enjoyed finding out ARMY or other ppl's theories on what their mvs were about 😊 This is 1 of the reasons I like Tae--that as an artist he fosters this healthy social environment/interaction with his audience. His work makes the audience think or feel and he's alternately inspired by their response.
Btw, shin dongle and min hee jin of ador/new jeans worked on the videos and creative direction for layover. I think that's because Tae wanted that vintage feel with present relevancy in this visual album of his, among other things. They did great, right? 💜

I loved the whole album, I was looking for something like that, with good taste and depth. I heard that he knew he would lose an audience compared to the others, but that the album was his portrait, and when he sings them live it's incredible. He actually lost, including an important award in Korea where his companions who were competing all won for moving towards the more appealing side of pop. It's a shame that those who really know music don't recognize it, this album for me is a masterpiece. 😊😊😊

V is an old soul! It’s so true that he could be eccentric with his music but it’s real. Your AP knows what’s going on. It’s all a fantasy that he’s made up to get by. He’s trying to get over his lost love. Some know it better than I do. It’s a great song! BTSs songs always had a message or something meaningful they needed to give us. Vs really gone the distance with these first 3 songs. This last one was trippy and kinda scary with the means he was going thru to convince maybe himself that he wasn’t alone? 💜😉

What i got is slow dancing is about Tae creating a perfect, happy, beautiful world for himself. He is paying attention to every detail. But ultimately, his real life consists of one certainty and that his his dog yeontan . Therefore, yeontan is everywhere in this MV.
When the group Polaroid Is taken the result is many Tae's and not that group of people he envisioned for his perfect world.

V is artistic, his favourite artist is Van Gogh. He created #Vantae as a combination of Van Gogh and Tae. He posts his photos and art on #vantae. V also visits a lot of art exhibitions and museums. We don’t get to see this like we do with RM because V keeps his personal time personal. V has always decided that he would do MV’s for every song in his album. He said that he always visualises song/lyrics in his head and wants his songs to be showcased visually as well. This album is my all time fav album in music. In today’s stressful busy world, this is the album you put on to distressed and relax with. It’s a timeless classic.
Vante comes from his favourite artist Ante Badzim and V, not from Van Gough. V+ante = Vante.

Then why does it state in Weverse magazine “V the Visualist” article about Layover “V took the first name of Australian photographer Ante Badzim and affixed his own stage name to the front to give himself the handle Vante, which he uses when posting photos of his own or discussing those of photographers he admires”?
@@Hdoll95 not sure why it’s there, the magazine probably picked up the false explanation that has been going around the fandom for a while now as if it’s a fact. I just showed you the footage where V tells us it’s Van Gogh, the writer probably didn’t go back far enough. V started appreciating ante badzim a lot later so it’s possible that the magazine put this together or Tae may have evolved it to include Ante. However, I’ve never seen Tae reference Ante as part of the Vantae handle. I’ll go with what V said in addition with the fact that he always talked about Van Gogh, visited his art exhibitions and was drawing Van Gogh and his starry night painting back in the day. With Ante they just liked each other’s pictures on social media.
It’s possibly evolved, he had an interaction with Ante who dedicated a photograph in his honour. It’s well documented, he referred to the name then also.

The way I interpret the Slow Dancing MV, is that it's Tae creating his own world, which in this case could be representing creating this album. We know how perfectionistic he is and how much care he put into each detail of it, putting in so many elements of himself and what he loves (Tannie), and how visually and artistically he thinks so this is a perfect way to represent the process he goes through when creating his art, he is like an architect of it, populating this world. And it is also where he could escape to when he couldn't leave his own house (during the pandemic).

Vincent Van Gogh is his favorite painter, in interviews in the USA he shows drawings he made of Van Gogh... his nickname as a photographer is Vante in honor of the artist... I hope the world doesn't wait for him to die to recognize his genius.

Jungkook is last. Golden was the last album release. I love Tae, he found his sound. Jazz and Soul. Tae said what we hear is him. He likes this kind of music. I was so glad he added soul. I knew vocally that RB and Soul is so him. Jazz evokes a mood. Tae is all about mood. He is a fan of Corinne Bailey Rae and her albums are mood music too. You just feel underlying sensuality and romance even when singing about losing love. Listen to slow dancing Piano Verde edition. I love this man, his talent. This is grown folks music. Slowing dancing makes me want to spontaneously slow dance with my partner in our living room and cuddle. Song on loop.
