- here are the logon and logoff sounds from Windows N 3.1 to 11
Please note:
1.Windows doesn't have logon and logoff function before Windows 3.1
2.Windows NT 3.1 is the version of Windows to have Windows logon and logoff function
2.Windows 95-Whistler used Windows windows startup and shutdown sound as Windows logon and logoff sound
3. In Windows XP ,Windows used the Windows XP startup and shutdown sound as Windows logon and Logoff event.However, the Windows XP logon and logoff sound is actually stored in the Windows Media folder but it is only used when switching users.
3.The Worldwide "Longhorn" sounds are owned by Samsung and never being used in any builds of Windows Longhorn. Windows Longhorn actually used XP sounds (later with some Vista sounds)
4.Starting from Windows 8,Windows logon and logoff sound event is disabled by default and it can be brought back by editing regedit. The Windows logon and logoff sound is located in the Windows media folder,but unused.

From what I've experienced, Windows XP only plays the logon/logoff sounds if you click on 'Switch user', while clicking on 'Log off' plays the usual startup/shutdown sounds.
