taking me back to the old stereo system in our finished basement, it went from my mom's oldies and motown to suddenly. . . this. Been feeling out of it and this snaps me back every time, and its from here that Bad Brains, Circle Jerks and all the rest came when my mom learned that I like "punk." The only music I had to call my own when I was 5 before this was Michael Jackson and Weird Al, mom already knew all the groovy classics. Cramps still a favorite, but it all started here for me.
Great to hear.. great to hear of a parent that was clearly well into music of her own tastes too.. They are our unseen foundation eh. . I've found it really odd to encounter kids that have grown up without there being music on around the house. How empty that is. My dad was well into The eagles. But mostly Celtic folk . ( UK here , talking early 80s) Him and his mates would often have guitar and singing jam sessions while my mum was working at the local hospital). Serious 80s dad's but ones that would still all be singing the harmonies to brown eyed girl from time to time. (Observing the interplay of those guys was also where I picked up my storytelling and male interactve skills from for certain), hilarious stories, blokes jammin. It was by default that I was exposed to that really. My dad wanted me in the other room whe his mates were there tbf but I soon learnt that if I kept my mouth shut and kept out of the way i'd be a allowed to stay. That Shit was gold. First saw Green Day in 91, Hull, UK , The adelphy . Supported by GAN, our local poppunk effort back then. Only 9 of us in the crowd, ( including GAN). Green Day were on fire of course. Xx

@@aaronwetzel1981 If I may add to your comment, I'm a lousy drummer and even I can play some "tasty" grooves, at lest on a Kiffmeyer level. John Kiffmeyer was a underrated drummer for a small band.

Honestly I love the mix of Kerplunk and I don't think it'd necessarily benefit from having the big dookie treatment. It's got this vintage grain on the instruments especially the guitar and there's lots of feedback... it just gives it this certain nostalgic atmosphere that can't be replicated.
