I felt the same way and got so frustrated with my blizzard sr (previous version) that I sold it rapidly with prejudice lol. I changed escs and motors and it all came down to the chain drive coming loose along with the tracks on every 360 degree spin. And....if the snow isn’t perfect it sticks to the tracks and plastic outdrive gear causing the chain to release. They work best in sub zero powder once they’re acclimated to the temp meaning set it outside for a while until it gets the same temp as the air before you run it. You didn’t ask, but I felt I should tell you why it’s good you have t pulled the trigger lol.
nice video and cool update. I just installed a radiolink radio that gives me mixing without changing anything but the radio, so now I got a pistol grip, video is up on my TH-cam.
Yup, I did the sabretooth dual esc mod and couldn’t get it to work right with their help and a few replacements, did the titan 380 motors, got fed up and sold it with prejudice at an alarming rate of speed. Direct drive is the only way, but I was done at that point after dealing with the drive chain coming off along with the tracks on every 360 spin. They stretch quicker with the more powerful motors. And heat build up inside, I even vented the black esc box under the clear plastic sheath. I love tinkering and modifying my rigs, but this one had my number lol. Threw some paddles on my losi 3xle and now I just pretend it’s a blizzard 😆 I think I have ptsd from that thing. You are a better man than me! Well, more dedicated anyways lol. I almost forgot about the climate acclimation it requires 🤦♂️ they work best in sub zero powder for sure....or crusty snow where they stay on top. If it’s wet snow, forget about it. Ahh the memories.....I need to smash something suddenly 😂
@@damedcamera could be as it was a blizzard sr model, but dang that thing was a headache. And I live in Michigan which hasn’t had very much snow the last few years. So it didn’t get used as much as you would be able to up north there. Put lots of cash into that thing before I finally let it go. This was a few years ago now. Seeing yours bright back some memories for sure. Just not very good ones haha. Keep up the good work bro!
No, only way to go is get an older Blizzard EV/ DF-300 and stick a Castle brushless system in it. I went through the same crap you did and finally I got fed up and sold it all ASAP. I’m now more than happy now with my Blizzard. It looks just like a 2020-21 Trail King, but is vintage under the body! Oh..., and now, it really rips!! 🔥
When I take my snowmobile out for its run I always put a coat of wax on it and leave it cool off before hitting the snow. The snow here on the east coast is usually pretty wet. Cheers Lyle and hello Molly!
For mine I bought mysel a Pololu TREX Dual Motor Controller, the DMC01. Took a bit of cutting of the plastic inside to make it fit, though it is a reasonably small board. Connected to two stock motors to the board, and set the board up for your normal 2 channel (throttle and steering) and it does the mixing for you. The only downsidie I have found with this board is that when switching radio-reciever, you have to calibrate the dual motor controller board, and that can be a bit challenging, but not to much. It is your average led light that lights up when in a sequence when you do calibrate. And having mounted the board it is a bit of a pain. And of course, no water proofing on that board, so that you will have to do yourself. Should perhaps run my Kyosho blizzard some in the following days. Have a bit of snow currently, and have not used the Blizzard for a few years since I have moved.
Thanks for the information. I watched your last video of the blizzard you released and it made me finally pull the trigger. I just ordered the blizzard 2.0 from Amain last week and I am sitting here patiently waiting for the snail mail to arrive. I am going to leave it stock for as long as I can other than a fpv setup for it.
So depending on how much time you want to invest you can make gears using a file. Have to use some of that high school geometry to space them correctly though. How ever there are places that will 3d print you a metal part.
Thanks Lyle appreciate the input so I just ordered a Trail King and want to go sensored brushless with metal tracks & bind to my DX5 Rugged transmitter if you have any thoughts much appreciated...
Those things are so cool haha. I grew up on a ski hill. Well spent all.my time there. Harper mountain kamloops b.c. Best friends family owns it, so we got to ride on the snow cats all the time. Very cool detailed points on this man. I want one.. but here in victoria b c we don't get much snow at all haha. But still want one haha. Cheers man. 👍👍😎⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nice video Lyle. I'll be keeping my titan 380s with custom drive made from parts from Robotshop /servo city. I was thinking of raising the bottom 3/8 to 1/2 inch for more clearance. Also for the extra weight you can adjust the springs in the suspension arms. Remove the wheels and change the spring in the dedent.
Hey Lyle! Nice info on that Kyosho Blizzard! I always wanted one when I seen that one that was 3D printed that Medic did a tutorial on few years back with the snow Blower that was 3D printed too! Maybe change the transmitter and receiver pistol grip and up the power? Probably be alot more fun to run! Good luck and hope to see it out and about!😉👍
that's so cool Lyle! i have never owned or driven a track vehicle before either in real life or in RC. was wondering, to help prevent the snow build up in the chain, would a belt drive system work better? i know that if it got wet too much, it would slip and dampen the performance, but it would save you the bother of getting the snow out of it. just an idea since i have no clue as how those machines work. cheers! see you in the next video.
Sorry I heard something about paying attention? I’m to poor to “pay” attention! 😜🤘🍻👍 “Sorry for my rudeness? It wasn’t very smart., but if it came out the other end it would have been a _____! LOL!!! Your dog is awesome! What’s this video about again? lol!!!! Good video Eh! 👊🇨🇦
Hey hey hey lyle hello from Dramacidal Rc 😁 check me out on Facebook man it would be an honor. I watch you and medic religiously and I absolutely love what yous do so all my inspiration comes from you two gentlemen so thank you. Sry for not commenting more but I only have smart TVs so can’t comment ☹️ Lots of love from wolverine Michigan 🥶😁🤙💯
DumboRc has a setup for tanks with their 4ch pistol grip.
Never had one but have been interested in the blizzard for the past 25 years lol!!!

I doubt I’m the better man lol
Sounds like you’ve run yours harder and longer (TWSS) than I have lol

Poor Molly just wants scratches lol. Great info and video. Hopefully you get to take it out soon and show us.

Hello Canada love from the USA love you and rcsparks
Ill be getting one milled here soon

I want to get a blizzard one of these days. Cool information. 👍👍
Alternatively, use a v-tail mixer for pistol grip. I use it with a dx4s, for nice exponential steering.
So depending on how much time you want to invest you can make gears using a file. Have to use some of that high school geometry to space them correctly though. How ever there are places that will 3d print you a metal part.
great video and tips
Nice Blizzard Tips
It's the Sabertooth 2X12 RC that we use.
I used the Pololu TREX dual motor controller dmc01 on mine. Works that one as well.
Thanks Lyle appreciate the input so I just ordered a Trail King and want to go sensored brushless with metal tracks & bind to my DX5 Rugged transmitter if you have any thoughts much appreciated...
Metal tracks may have to go. Don’t know anyone who actually likes them
Those things are so cool haha.

I've never tried one of these units. I've heard about the same reviews that you give. 🤔
They are fun. Work on beach sand too but might want to add some cooling.

I’m leaning towards no for sure on that. Not saying it’s impossible but can’t see it being better than chain.
Or if you have a futaba you could download .. tank mode
That's dope
they need to make a 1/24th scale...
So could you do away with the chain set up.
I’m sure someone out there could possibly figure out a gear or belt set up but not this guy lol. Nothing wrong with the chains in my opinion though
Sorry I heard something about paying attention? I’m to poor to “pay” attention! 😜🤘🍻👍

She’s a little distracting sometimes lol
Does anyone know where I can get direct drive kit?
Dude what's up with dogs today mine keeps trying to steel my phone as I'm watching this
"Excuse me dog" lol
I c so those need to be 💡 and waterproof 🤔
